One of the best pieces of legislation passed in decades and concerned folks still cannot give Trump the win.

They would rather cheer Rand and Massie on as most principled heros ever.

If there is anything sad about this, its the TDS sufferers that very poorly understand the legislative process and what's ultimately in and not in the bill.

Next they will nit pick on how Trump celebrates the 4th tomorrow and call his recognition of the bomber pilots "tacky" then get mad at Lee Greenwood for singing about how he's proud to be an American and say we are just cheering Thelma and Louise driving over the debt cliff.

But its the offseason so they are unable to be miserable with one another on the Premium board.

I've personally "Given Trump the win" on a number of occasions on a number of issues.

However, if you believe this is the best pieces of legislation passed in decades, that says more about all the other legislation passed in that time frame than it does this bill.

I can live with that assessment.

We get it, as a government contractor, you're happy with insane government spending. There are people who know math that are not.

The only reason why he thinks this is "one of the best pieces of legislation in history" is because Trump is pushing it.

Oh I'm aware. I wasn't going to go much deeper on my (or his) feeling for this bill on this thread. I've said enough on one of the others.

I don't think it's a great bill in a vacuum, but I think you have to grade on a curve any large piece of legislation put together by the 535 cats in a sack that is the United States Congress.

Can't let perfect be the enemy of good.

One of the reasons J. Walter Weatherman cannot recognize the positives here is because Trump is pushing it.

Incorrect. Big spending, pork filled bills that continue to spend trillions of dollars we don't have are bad for the country no matter which liberal is pushing them.

You understand the only way anything passed is because of pork.

Have you ever read any legislation from Congress? Let's take emergency disaster funding. All you will hear from any media and any political is that the funding provides $XX billion for Hurricane Y affecting the State of Z. It will pass with an overwhelming bipartisan support because we help our fellow Americans in times of need.

But in such a bill will be funding for afterschool programs in liberal cities, basketball courts in NYC, and a myriad of other things not related to the disaster the bill is working to address. Like it or not, its just the way it is.

As far as "liberals push spending"... you must have missed the Bush '43 years and what Rs pushed to the MIC.

You have a list of which ones are closing?

Or move to Alaska. Murkowski got funding for her rural hospitals.

They are going with Trump's legislative priorities and he is vilifying anyone that doesn't go along and you are saying he isn't responsible for balancing the budget. Get real. This is Trump's budget and he owns the outcomes and anything that thinks otherwise is delusional.

Next you will tell us the tariffs are from Congress because the Constitution says they are the ones that are supposed to be agreeing to trade deals, taxes and levies.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make hut the point that I was trying to make was Trump has shown zero interest in doing anything in a fiscally responsible manner that even with a huge majority in the House we'd get more pork filled mega bills.

I actually like Trump. I even like his attitude and how he treats people. I like people that speak their minds and openly attack their adversaries. I am very polarizing myself. So I am far from a Trump hater.

I am just disillusioned that we cannot cut into the 4 trillion in entitlements. As long as we cannot do that, we are rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the tax cuts. I thought it was idiotic to have special tax carveouts on SS, overtime, tips, etc, when you should just pass those cuts along across the board, but I voted for border security, tax cuts, 1st / 2nd amendment protection, and gutting entitlements.

He accomplished the first 2.5. He could have gotten to 3 if they had the nuts to deal with that idiotic parliamentarian. Unfortunately, entitlement cuts must come or we are done for. And no one seems to actually care enough to do anything. If he doesn't do that before leaving office it will simply have been a delaying action and not a success.

TOP 10:
  • Largest Tax Cut in History: Permanently extends the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, putting up to $10,000 more in take-home pay for working families by keeping lower tax rates and higher standard deductions.
  • No Tax on Tips: Eliminates federal income tax on tips for workers like servers and bartenders, boosting their earnings through a $25,000 deduction (phased out for high earners).
  • No Tax on Overtime: Provides a temporary deduction for overtime pay (up to $160,000 income), rewarding hardworking Americans who put in extra hours.
  • SALT Deduction Relief: Raises the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000 through 2029, helping families in high-tax states keep more of their money.
  • Senior Tax Bonus: Offers a $6,000 deduction for seniors (65+) earning up to $75,000, easing taxes on Social Security benefits and supporting retirees.
  • Child Tax Credit Boost: Permanently increases the Child Tax Credit to $2,200, with only one parent needing a Social Security number, supporting American families.
  • Small Business Growth: Expands the Section 199A pass-through deduction to 23% and restores 100% immediate expensing, empowering 26 million entrepreneurs to hire and invest.
  • Border Security Investment: Allocates $46.5 billion for border wall construction, $45 billion for detention capacity, and $30 billion for ICE, ensuring a secure America.
  • Energy and Manufacturing Boom: Reinstates full expensing for R&D and provides 100% depreciation for U.S.-made production property, driving job creation and energy dominance.
  • Trump Accounts for Kids: Creates a $1,000 federal deposit for children born 20252028, funding future education, home purchases, or small business startups.

  • OTHER COOL STUFF:
    • Defunding Green New Deal Policies: Repeals or phases out $500 billion in clean energy tax credits from Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, including a $7,500 electric vehicle credit (phased out by 2025) and credits for renewable energy plants (must be in service by 2028), prioritizing fossil fuel production and American energy independence.
    • Ending Planned Parenthood Funding: Bans Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood and similar abortion providers
    • Cutting Medicaid for Undocumented Immigrants: Prohibits states from using Medicaid infrastructure to cover undocumented immigrants, penalizing 14 states and D.C. by reducing federal funding, affecting 1.4 million undocumented immigrants and saving taxpayer money for American citizens.
    • Massive Medicaid Overhaul: Cuts $1 trillion from Medicaid over a decade, including stricter eligibility checks every six months, work requirements for able-bodied adults (ages 1964), and higher copays for those above the poverty line, targeting "waste, fraud, and abuse" to save $930 billion.
    • SNAP Work Requirements: Tightens Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility by raising work requirements to 80 hours per month for ages 1864 (up from 54) and applying them to parents with children over 6, saving $230 billion and ensuring benefits prioritize working Americans.
    • Banning Gender-Affirming Care Funding: Prohibits Medicaid from covering gender-affirming care, including puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgeries for all ages, aligning with conservative values and redirecting funds to traditional healthcare priorities.
    • Student Loan Repayment Reform: Replaces multiple student loan repayment plans with a standard 1025-year plan and a less generous Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP), saving $330 billion by reducing borrower benefits and eliminating Biden-era forgiveness programs.
    • Repealing EPA Mandates: Cuts funding for Environmental Protection Agency mandates, streamlining fossil fuel project permits and reducing regulatory burdens, boosting American energy production but drawing Democratic ire for environmental rollbacks.
