"The cost of this bill was not new spending so much as tax cuts, which are scored as spending."

Is not true. Tax cuts are not scored as spending.
They are the only reason this bill is considered to increase the deficit.

Don't call it spending...whatever...it's just semantics if the scoring assumes that tax cuts will cause the deficit to increase.

And it's also bull*****
Agreed. Key word is "scored".

Reduced tax revenue via tax cuts is considered spending when a bill is scored.

That why they say tax cuts "cost" x trillion over 10 years. It's money the government doesn't get any more so it's a cost to the government coffers.

It's backwards logic. But that's how it is.

It's also bull****, since tax revenues haven't decreased after any of those tax cuts...
True, however they were comparing the effect of "extending" as opposed to "keeping" the tax cuts.

I like to think future legally-illiterate DEI Ketanji Brown Jackson-wannabe's will be precluded from going to elite law schools and advancing up the career ladder consequently thanks to this.

Her parents had some money (I think her father is/was a lawyer as well) but putting her thru Harvard law would have been a heavy lift. Tuition is only around $80K a year but realistically one would need at least around $100K/year to live there as well. Note the average for law schools is $58K/year.

And speaking of scoring the tariff income is nor scored by CBO. The lack of dynamic accounting completely makes the CBO projections garbage.

Either way, as Bessent says, the revenue is coming in and will be counted when calculating debt to GDP.

The caps on this are crazy! There are limits on parent plus and undergraduate too. Lifetime caps are much reduced and with significant impacts. It's going to have a huge impact on universities at all levels.

Question; did the final BBB kill funding for the CPB?

More hilarity in the replies, fyi (obscenity warning).
