Yes, Roy is the bad one for actually wanting to cut spending.

Yeah, that's an idiotic take worthy of a hearty guffaw.

I support Roy here. Cut spending or burn it all to the ground.

We should all get behind SwampThing Roy. Y'all know he existed before he became an antagonist seeking a bigger office, right?

If you think Roy is in it for anything but Roy, you seem to ignore his history.

The House committee is going to vote on the bill again this evening. Does anybody know if they tweaked it to address concerns of the R holdouts, or did they simply "twist some arms" in private and intend to vote on the same bill again with no changes?

As long as you realize that, it's all I would ever ask.

If he is, it's irrelevant. Give me the guy that's in it for himself that will address the known ticking time bomb vs the people that are in it for themselves that won't.

I hear ya.

But that debt clock is not the ticking time bomb it's made out to be.

I'll say this, I am all for reducing spending, I am fantastical about ending waste, fraud and abuse.

If you took the prosperity of this Country and turned it into ward for a decade, there would be no further bellyaching on taxes, debt, etc.

Just a matter of how brave we want to be.

I said I was fantastical, how is that not believed?!

But let me explain a small bit of me thinking.

I have made a damn good life for myself and my family and my employees / friends / business associates and such through government contracting.

So yes, I am going to be partial to government spending to a degree. For my particular genre, I work for a state who I feel is making appropriate use of funds to help a needed set of folks through a hardship that was unforeseen.

So I am both comfortable with what our business is, but I also see firsthand that WFA from the gubmit side, the contractor side and the end recipient side. I also pay a fair dinkum on taxes so I get that too.

My inner conservative in me tells me we could help more and be fantastically more efficient and judicial with money entrusted to the government via the taxpayers.

The polar ends that are oft discussed on f16 are not reality. I absolutely respect the posters who are die hard limited government, taxes are theft, and abortion is murder. And I try and understand though I have failed so far in understanding what I consider insane liberal ideals men in girls locker rooms and a transitioning my 6yo without consent, open borders and my punishment for come.

What I also recognize is that there is a lot of good to be done in the middle.

Bill passes out of House committee after "minor modifications" according to Speaker Johnson.
Quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) Republicans advanced their massive tax cut and border security package out of a key House committee during a rare Sunday night vote as deficit hawks who blocked the measure two days earlier reversed course after gaining commitments on the package's spending cuts.
Speaker Mike Johnson met with Republican lawmakers shortly before the meeting, telling reporters that the changes agreed to were "just some minor modifications. Not a huge thing."

"Deliberations continue at this very moment," Arrington said. "They will continue on into the week, and I suspect right up until the time we put this big, beautiful bill on the floor of the House."

https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5306895-republicans-budget-committee-vote-trump-bill/

"The four Republican holdouts who had tanked the vote on Friday Reps. Ralph Norman (S.C.), Chip Roy (Texas), Andrew Clyde (Ga.), and Josh Brecheen (Okla.) voted present to allow the bill to go forward, with Roy revealing that there was progress on moving up the start date for new Medicaid work requirements and speeding up the phase-out of green energy incentives."

Sounds to me like the holdouts gained something pretty valuable, making the Medicaid work requirements and phasing out of the green energy incentives more likely to actually happen.

Gut spending

Deregulate massively

Cut more spending

Cut taxes across the board, even corporate taxes.

Or they should all be primaried.

So he's calling for immediate spending cuts and making enemies because he's defending the status quo? Because that's what swamp creatures do?

You make zero sense.

Your concern has been well documented upthread. Thanks for the summation. And enjoy the windfall if the bill passes in its present form.

Chip gave in.

My goal now is to get mine before it all goes down the toilet.

Per the internet:
The resolution projects a $1.9 trillion deficit for FY2025 (6.2% of GDP), with net interest costs of $952 billion (3.2% of GDP).

The reconciliation instructions allow for a net deficit increase of up to $2.8 trillion over 10 years (20252034), though some estimates suggest it could reach $3.3 trillion or higher if temporary provisions are made permanent.

The House Ways and Means Committee's portion of the reconciliation bill, marked up in May 2025, is estimated to increase deficits by $3.8 trillion through 2034, or $5.3 trillion if expiring provisions (e.g., 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act extensions) are made permanent.

per Chip:
Quote:

Tonight, after a great deal of work and engagement over the weekend, the Budget Committee advanced a reconciliation bill that lays the foundation for much needed tax relief, border security, and important spending reductions and reforms. Importantly the bill now will move Medicaid work requirements forward and reduces the availability of future subsidies under the green new scam.

But, the bill does not yet meet the moment leaving almost half of the green new scam subsidies continuing. More, it fails to end the Medicaid money laundering scam and perverse funding structure that provides seven times more federal dollars for each dollar of state spending for the able-bodied relative to the vulnerable. This all ultimately increases the likelihood of continuing deficits and non-Obamacare-expansion states like Texas expanding in the future. We can and must do better before we pass the final product.

As such, I joined with 3 of my colleagues to vote "present" out of respect for the Republican Conference and the President to move the bill forward. It gives us the opportunity to work together this week to get the job done in light of the fact our bond rating was dropped yet again due to historic fiscal mismanagement by both parties. This bill is a strong step forward and I am proud of Chairman Arrington, the Speaker, and my colleagues for the work we did to make progress with the White House. But we have to do more to deliver for the American people.

Texas needs to go ahead and expand Medicaid. All we are doing is subsidizing other states that have already done so.

It's a big lie

My weekly op ed is already overcome by events (OBE). The Budget Committee passed the BBB with a few more crumbs added over the weekend. The essentials remain the same.

The Big, Beautiful Bill Scam

The Establishment Republicans, whether they cloak themselves a MAGA or not, are extreme gas-lighting Americans on the Big, Beautiful Bill for Budget Reconciliation. It is Scam. A Con. A Grift. The tasty tidbits like keeping the 2017 Tax Cuts are fouled with the putrid, diseased helpings of suicidal spending. The whole mess lacks a good helping of promises made:

Trump can veto if he's serious about cutting spending

I'm embarrassed that I bought Trumps bullcrap

It appears he's still the debt King he proudly called himself in the 2016 election

If this goes thru I'm done with the R party, no more go backs. They've been pretending to be fiscal conservatives for far too long

My daughter is 8. I teach her about the value of money, hownto be frugal, save and buy what you really want or need, don't waste food...etc. I'm afraid she won't live her life in the same US as me, where these lessons I teach her will allow for a comfortable life. I'm afraid her life will be difficult at some point, probably after I'm gone considering im already 55

They could double the deficit and Trump would sign it. Trump doesn't care as long as he gets the tax cuts and signs something.

I'll still vote for Rs because Dems are full blown totalitarian Marxists who believe men can become women.

But this whole fiscal responsibility act by the Rs is total BS. We are on the road to ruin and no one is willing to stop it.

We all got snookered, especially Elon. Dude risked his rep and businesses to have the rug pulled.

We got here in part because people spent too much time on ridiculous distractions like men can become women, gay marriage and other social nonsense that comes woth weekly stories drug up from across the nation to make it sound like there's an army of she males coming to read to your kindergartener. So thats where the spotlight went instead of truly important things like getting spending under control

Conservatives took their eye off the ball and now financial crap is sure to hit thr fan

When the financial crsp does hit.the fan, at least I won't have to see the social blithering anymore. All that water cooler talk will end abruptly
