Call him “Mr. Double-Double.” Call him “Mr. All-SEC.” Call him “Grandpa.”
Whatever you call “The Captain,” you can also call him SEC Co-Player of the Week.
On Monday afternoon, the Southeastern Conference bestowed that honor upon Texas A&M graduate student forward Rashaun Agee following his standout performance at Georgia.
As the Co-POTW, Agee shares the award with Florida forward Alex Condon.
In the Aggies’ 92-77 win at Stegeman Coliseum, the undersized 6-foot-8 big man played 30 minutes, scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds — including five offensive boards — to lead A&M to its fourth consecutive victory.
“We just love each other,” Agee told the SEC Network on Saturday. “We want to win for each other. We came in this environment understand that they try to play the way we play. There’s only one of us. We started it, and we’re going to finish it.
“We play our game, and we know we gotta battle every night. We know every night is not going to be easy. We understand that, in the SEC, we’ve got to come out and play our game.”
Recording his 10th double-double of the season, Agee also came tantalizingly close to a triple-double with seven assists to lead the Maroon & White in yet another statistical category vs. the Bulldogs.
Agee became just the second player to post 15 rebounds, 15 boards and five assists in an SEC game over the last three decades, joining Florida great, two-time national champion and five-time NBA all-star Al Horford, who accomplished the feat as a sophomore in 2006.
In 21 starts this season, the Chicago native is averaging 13.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
“I understand where I come from,” Agee said. “I know it’s hard, and everybody doesn’t get these opportunities, so I just take advantage of what I’m given.”
However, in A&M’s first eight conference games, those figures jump to 15.6 and 10.2, respectively.
That’s not surprising considering his five SEC double-doubles are a major reason the Aggies currently lead the league at 7-1.
Undoubtedly, Agee is putting together a first-team All-SEC resume, and this recognition is just another step towards becoming the first A&M forward to make that list since Danuel House in 2015.
This is the second weekly award of Agee’s career as he was also named the MAC’s Player of the Week on Jan. 15, 2024, while at Bowling Green.
Additionally, he becomes the first Aggie hooper to earn SEC Player of the Week since Manny Obaseki on March 11, 2024.
