I'm also at the age where I only get hammered drunk when I'm on kid free weekends. So Aggie football weekends in college station, my couch, a resort in mexico, or weddings for the few remaining friends who aren't married.

All areas that its easy to avoid driving drunk.

In this case, it looks like prescription drugs, and remains to be seen if the cop reported any motor skill impairment or verbal sluring etc. So unless the cop has some rock solid recordings, the public response from the Wests is likely to get a dismissal. It was a pretty dramatic FB response, so wouldn't be surprised if it's a dramatic recording also.

Mrs. West seems rather adamant that she isn't taking any prescription drugs. I would think they're fairly savy about PR. I would be surprised if she would deny that with a blood test pending, but people do dumb things every day.

A dismissal will be because of a negative blood test. Their public response won't matter if the blood test is positive.

Yep, to cop, West clearly said "no, I haven't taken any prescription drugs".

In her FB post she adds

That in no way incriminates her, but she went out of her way to differentiate routine prescription drugs that she doesn't take, and one off scripts she does. So could be something she wants to lean on if the tox traces a benzo, otherwise it was just a random meaningless admission.

I strongly suggest y'all wait until all the information comes out. I listened to West on WBAP this morning and then I also listened to Mike Matta, the pres of the DPA. This sure sounds a lot like perhaps Mrs. West was being a complete ass and non cooperative. She blew the PBT so hard that it was knocked out of the the officer's hand. Seems she may suffer from angry entitled woman syndrome.

Reasonable chance she knows who Allen West is. Doubtful she would know this is Mrs. Allen West even knowing her last name is West. I certainly wouldn't have any idea.

That is one dumb ass cop. Anybody that watches that and thinks that lady is inebriated and incapable of driving is an idiot. That cop appeared to be administering the test in every way possible to ensure failure. I've had to do that test a couple times in my life and they never asked me to watch the pen that long while "inadvertently" shining the flashlight in my eyes. An overweight, older person standing on one foot trying to retain their balance? There was nothing in those test that even remotely made me believe she was under the influence. Hell, she was calm and respectful through the whole ordeal. Absolutely ridiculous.

Apparently this is what policing is coming to when all the professional cops retire, quit or move to cities where they are appreciated. That lady cop sounded like a insecure, jr high teenager trying to do an assignment in front her peers in school. Embarrassing.

I'm not for defunding the police, but maybe just those 2 police.

Questionable PC for the stop, although she did cross the fog line a couple of times and stayed there a while. Seems there was a recent case that crossing the fog line was not sufficient PC for a stop.

Unusual to request FSTs when there are no indications of intoxication, i.e. smell of alcohol, open container, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes or unsteady stance. Would not be surprised to see prosecutor decline the case, especially in Dallas County.

Prosecutor is a huge liberal in Dallas but this case is going no where except to a discipline review board at DPD.

Mrs West was very respectful and gave no signs of inebriation. She acted upset and tearful, just like any innocent person would having to go through something like that.

That said, I don't think the cop was that bad either, maybe just not that experienced.

Hard to tell from that body cam footage. But looks like she might have given up without seeing a twitch. My understanding is that the roadside HGN eye twitch is something the officer must record in their report, it certainly was when I got it back before body cams. With the tech today, they should be required to use a small cam with light to do it....so it's not the cops word. But instead a recorded eye twitch at max deviation or failure to max deviate or no twitch at max dev.

Generally speaking, that cop made several mistakes that she wouldn't have made had Mrs West remained silent and gone straight to jail like most here would suggest.

When she did the test it looked very windy. There was lots of traffic and noise.

The Wests have said she blew 0.0. DPD hasn't disputed that, as far as I know. The fact they got a blood draw seems to indicate 0.0 is correct.

The probable cause affidavit for the blood draw warrant could be interesting. I don't see how it can be justified looking at the video.

She had to have a damned cheat sheet! She couldn't explain a single thing about taking a breathalyzer. I have amninistered and taken several, as well as gone to multiple training sessions on them. Its NOT hard to explain how they work.

Then she should have had a more experienced officer assisting her. That was the most pathetic display of a power trip mixed with sheer incompetence I have seen in a long while.
