So the original Cars was basically Doc Hollywood and Cars 3 looks like Rocky IV. I haven't seen Cars 2. What movie does that steal from?

I heard there's some kind of spy element or something? Like a light Bond thing going on maybe?

Never saw the first one, but this kind of makes me want to see it now...

The first one was surprisingly good.

Nice. I've been hearing that. Will give it a shot soon.

I thought the first one looked terrible from the trailers. I thought it was genuinely one of the funniest movies of the year.

I would see Daddy's Home 2 just for Mel Gibson and John Lithgow.

I was doubtful because the first one was just ok. But seeing Mel Gibson come down the escalator was an immediate game changer.

Thomas Haden Church better be in Daddy's Home 2

The first "Daddy's Home" is also on Prime.

Daddy's Home is an underrated comedy, I thought it was greatness, and I'm not a Will Ferrell fan.

That trailer makes me think they have knocked it out of the park once again.

Wow. The acting chops required to just pull off the physical part of that, not to mention the emotions.

Focusing on victim angle - the other one focused on the cops/manhunt part.

Looks powerful to me.

Haha I get it...It's just a thought the cynical side of me had (you know, Hollywood monetizing tragedy etc.). Y'all can put the pitch forks down.

Wow is right. This looks powerful as hell and I'm really excited for it

ok now my cynical side to match MC (and know that I say all of this while still thinking that was an amazing trailer and that I really want to see the movie):

  • I really wish seemingly every commercial didn't use that Rise Up song, even though it fits so perfectly. I just knew it was coming
  • Kind of messed up that at the end of the trailer, after Jake stands up on the prosthetics, the next image is big block letters saying "FALL"

Some talk in the War for the planet of the Apes thread got me thinking about this summer so far as a whole, and what its potential could be. Based on what we've already seen, early reviews for movies right around the corner, and the caliber of director involved with certain projects (i.e. Nolan, etc.), here's how some of the bigger titles are breaking down roughly halfway through the season...

Tier 1 / Almost unanimously positive reviews / Potential all-timers:
- Baby Driver
- The Big Sick
- Detroit (projected)
- Dunkirk (projected)
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Spider-man: Homecoming
- War for the Planet of the Apes

Tier 2 / Loved by many / Reviews not quite unanimous:
- A Ghost Story
- Logan Lucky (projected)
- Wonder Woman

Tier 3 / Problems, but fairly entertaining:
- Alien: Covenant
- Atomic Blonde
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Tier 4 / Trash or maybe not quite trash:
- Baywatch
- King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
- Transformers: The Last Knight

Remaining question marks:
- The Dark Tower (likely Tier 4)
- The Hitman's Bodyguard (Tier 3?)
- Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (absolutely no clue / any tier would not surprise me)

Point is, already, no matter how things shake out, we're likely looking at one of the best summers at the movies in years. And after the abysmal summer last year, it's certainly a welcomed rebound.

Summer is technically May through August in the movie world. So not counting Logan. But yeah, I'd put it in Tier 1 otherwise.

I was about to reply with that. The tone and style are what intrigue me. Robert Pattinson is almost unrecognizable and the violence looks raw and brutal. Nothing glamorous or sexy.

It seems corny, but I always wanted to go to the circus as a kid and I like Hugh Jackman. Christmas is a full slate, but I'll probably catch it
