No. I almost want to say it was Tywin. I think he knows he is going to lose his control over Joffery.

I think he's the only one at the head table that definitely didn't do it.

I think I'm in the pie camp now that I've rewatched the scene a few times. I think it has something to do with the birds, though I don't have the slightest clue what.

The birds just symbolize the death that is about to come.

That being said, I would like to ask the book readers a question. When it was going down in the books, were you made aware beforehand who was poisoning Joff? If you feel like answering that spoils anything then forget I asked.

Aero, it's just like it is in the books as the show. You have your suspicions but in the end you really don't have a clue who done it.
BlackGold
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yea, in the books you dont know who did it either, but you can imply.

How long after the wedding do we find out who it is?

If some of you consider that a spoiler, I'll retract the question.

Ok. Re-watched. I figured it out!!

It'll likely be closer to the end of the season when they explain.

i saw the grandma play with the stark girls ponytail and put something in it with her left hand

then i saw her ponytail behind her neck until she gives the cup back to the imp, who sees the poison and openly hands it to Joffrey-

Joffrey orders the wee man to fill it up and bam
the conspiracy of 3 is complete

from a book reader,

It was just like the show, besides the clues in the books there was no way no knowing until it was made obvious to us. Because it was told to us later, we knew what to look for in the show. But as of Joffery's death in the book we did not know...

Hope that helps...

Finally able to watch. And what a great episode. Put me in the camp that thinks it was his own family. Probably Cersi his mom. Who knows, they will reveal it in time.

Spot on for all the non book readers.

Rewatch definitely made me take notice of the curious movements of Sansa. Camera kept going back to her during the awkward "cup bearer" exchange between Tyrion and Joff. When cup drops and Joff kicks it, camera focuses on Sansa, who reaches toward an out of view part of her dress (could have just been grabbing her dress to stand up and help Tyrion). Then camera shows Tyrion looking under the table and Sansa grabbing goblet in normal way, around the outside. When she hands it to Tyrion, however, she has one hand clearly over the top of the cup, which seems like an extra movement not necessary to hand over the cup.

Then the fool arrives at her side and tells her that it is time to go. He knows what happens and assumes she does too?

Now, could be that Old Lady Tyrell was the force behind it all, since she definitely took on a protective role with Sansa. The only hole in their plot would be that they would have to assume that Sansa would have access to the cup, which in no way was guaranteed, and more likely would never have happened. Could be that they all had some poison and whoever got the chance would take it.

You can see lady olenna pluck off one of the blue jewels from Sansa's necklace. Had to watch it a couple of times. Also the cup was on her side of the table when Tyrion goes to get it for joffrey right before he croaks. I don't know how lady o would have spiked the cup with everyone watching though.

Its a fun game of follow the cup. The bride outs it out of site while he is cutting the cake.

So we know for sure it was the goblet and not the pie?

My guess is probably when everyone was distracted and looking up when the birds flew out of the pie.
jbanda

I think it was the cup. If it was the pie then wouldn't the target have been everyone. I mean everyone would have had a piece and then died.

Also it was kind of gross that he ate the pie with a dead birds blood on it (of which he killed with his nice new sword).

Well I'll be damned, I forgot about how much "previously on Game of Thrones" attention was paid to Dontos giving Sansa that necklace. Why would they show it again if it wasn't significant? If it was just a simple gesture of thanks for saving his life?
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Do you remember anything else from "previously?"

Actually no time was given to him actually giving Sansa the necklace, they just showed the part where he says he is still alive thanks to Sansa.

Redline, are you suggesting there is something else that tips us off in the "previously" section? Or just alluding to the fact that not many people actually pay attention for that part of the show and don't remember much from it?

How quickly things have turned for the almighty Lannisters. At the end of last season, they are on top of the world. The main threat to the crown is vanquished and they are about to form a huge alliance with the 2nd most powerful family in the realm. In just two episodes, a whole world of S*** lands on them:

1. King is dead, new King is far from ready to rule
2. One son is jailed, one is missing a hand and cannot fight
3. They are in hock up to their eyeballs to the Iron Bank, who always collects
4. They have a bad arse enemy, bent on revenge, in the city and openly taunting them
5. One of their daughters is in their enemy's control
6. They did not consummate the merger with the Tyrell's, and Cersei does not seem intent on ever making it happen on her end
7. Before the King's death, there was a very public display of dissension in the family, a lack of unity / loyalty toward Tyrion, and a lack of control over Joff

Thanks, GRRM, for turning things around so quickly.
