I still have hope the Starks will come out on top in the end. All our hopes now lie with Arya and Bran. Cause we all know Sansa ain't doing ****.

I agree, but Sansa seems to be in the best position to really f stuff up. Everyone in the capital thinks she a spineless little girl. She literally has nothing to live for. Time to go out in a blaze of glory!

Someone please remind me. What happened to Rickon? One of the guys at work said he died in Season 3, but I didn't remember that.

Him and the wildling chick went to find his mom or something while Brand and the other two went North.

Rickon went with Osha to Castle Black to hook up with Jon. Sh**** Dog went with them. Bran split up with Hodor (Hodor), the brother and sister and his wolf and took the secret path north of the Wall.

I think it was the Umbers. Which makes me wonder if he'll ever be seen again. I assume the Umbers were slaughtered by Bolton and the Frey's...So I wonder if Rikon would be killed if he were there.

There is no telling what is going on with the rest of the northern households. Or Rickon, for that matter.

Rickon and Osha (with Sh**** Dog) were heading to the Umbers' place. It's a fact.

Yes, but since they haven't been shown since, none of us know if they made it, if they kept on that plan, if they got lost in the woods or were eaten by Thenns.

Great start to the season. Tyrion and Bronn have to be the best comedic pair.

Arya continues to just wow me. Her and the hound had some great lines last night.

Anyone notice Winterfell is a smoking ruin in the opening credits?

It's been that way since the Boltons(?) sacked it, but I do love that they changed the intro for it.

Not so fast my friend. It was seized by Theon but was burned by the Bolton's basstage. Through his ba***rd, Bolton gave the Iron Men the option of giving up Theon and leaving. This is why his countrymen knocked his arse out and why he ended up in the ba****d's hands. So the only conclusion is that the ba***** burned it after the Iron Men surrendered. At the same time, the Bolton's were able to conveniently blame it on the Iron Men.

It wasn't perfectly obvious, but it was an early and subtle hint that Bolton was going to betray the Starks and may have already been plotting with the Lannisters.

What the other guy said. It's very subtle, but if you pick up on the clues, you can assume it was the Boltons.

Remember that hornblower that was blowing outside Winterfell before they took the city, that Theon swore he would kill?

Remember how Roose's ******* signaled the hoars to stop from banging Theon right before he cut off his junk? He blew a very familiar sounding horn.

This may have been really obvious, and I have just forgotten, but what was the motivation behind Bolton's betrayal? Money from Tywin?
Barnacle

Rocky, I think it was a matter of "coming out on the winning team." Kind of like how the Lannisters pretty much stayed out of Robert's Rebellion until it was obvious he was going to win. Plus, Bolton was a Stark bannerman and realized he would get to be "warden of the north" and get to annex Stark lands if they Stark's wiped out.

There's no loyalty. It's all about aligning with power.

Nice correction on where Rickon and Osha were going.

I've wondered about Bolton's betrayal too. It could not really have been a bandwagon thing - wanting to gain favor from the winning side, because by all accounts, Robb was winning. Could it have been as simple as saving his own a$$ after one of his men impetuously cut off the hand of Tywin's favored son? Tywin's vengeance against the family that maimed his son would have been great and fierce, so maybe Roose made his restitution by upending the war and killing the Starks.

I re-watched a handful of Season 3 episodes before the premier and noticed that when Theon was being tortured, he admitted to Bolton's bastage that he didn't actually kill Rickon and Bran.

I'm wondering if this is going to play a significant role later on and if Bolton will begin trying to hunt them down.

Htown, I think it was a result of a few things converging at once. True, Rob had won every battle, but he, and the whole Stark legacy for that matter, were still in a vulnerable position and all but toast after POing Frey and being abandoned by the Karstarks.

edit: Remember, everyone is thinking Rob is the last of the male Stark heirs at this point. Wipe him out, and there's no one to rise up against you later if you take his lands.

Then, you have Jaime falling in his lap and he weighed his options to see who could provide him the best "reward" for Jaime's ransom. More of the same if he gave him to Rob, or Warden of the North status, annexation of Stark lands, an end to the war, and not risking Tywin Lannister's wrath if he returned him to King's Landing.

The turning point was likely the combination of Robb marrying the Volantis girl and thus losing a big chunk of his army as well as leaving his rear potentially exposed. Losing Jaime as a hostage really swung things as well because as long as he held Jaime then Tywin would never do anything to jeopardize his son, Jaime was a HUGE trump card. The Karstarks leaving was honestly just piling on and maybe the last straw.

Robb really blew it when he had all the cards. At the beginning of Season 2 when he still had Theon and Jaime as well as the loyalty of the Freys he almost had the war won. He should have sent a loyal bannerman to negotiate with Balon Greyjoy and Renly while sending his mother home to Winterfell or even sending her back to the Eyrie to get her sister on board since he was holding most of the cards. Had he gotten The Vale behind him or tried to get Dorne on his side then he would have been unstoppable.

He could have even just gone back home to Winterfell with Jaime in tow and demanded whatever he wanted from Tywin.

Robb was a great battle strategist but he had was an idiot in terms of politics.

Yep, Robb completely blew it. Poor Starks.
