I think today's win really tightened up a lock on hosting. We've ensured at least 7 SEC series wins (with a shot at 8), and there's only one remaining home game to potentially lose (and the series has already been won, so it's not even a huge blow to lose it).

With 2 out in the top of the 9th, we've moved up to 19 in the RPI. I got nuthin'…the RPI is a strange beast.
The lesson here seems to be don't worry about RPI and just win games.

Ole Miss is jumping up the RPI --- might be in the top 40 now --- that's good for next weekend

Since we play both away isn't it pretty close to mathematically neutral? It doesn't affect our record and I think is a wash with respect to our opponent's record. The only thing I think it does affect is opponent's opponents record. LSU has dropped a similar amount as the Ole Miss increase and both are now in the 30s fwiw.

ETA: I definitely think Ole Miss winning is good because it separates us further in the conference standings.

That will all wash out after we play Ole Miss next weekend.

LOL exactly, people on here are so reactionary to everything all the time...we will be exactly where we are supposed to be when all the cards are dealt after the conference tournament. Tracking RPI daily is like watching your 401k daily, total waste of time.
I kind of enjoy watching the RPI. And I never check on my 401K. Drives my nephew financial guy crazy.

Presumably classes are over at Auburn and Bama, and it's not like it's a long trip home, so could they play tomorrow?

ACC has access to weak teams with good records from the Atlantic/NE region. If we play a mediocre team, they'll have a mediocre record. Traditionally, RPI was toughest on the west coast teams because of parity and their inability to travel out of their region.

Arkansas sitting at #29.

the committee will show favor to the West Division champ, but that is stretching it for a top 8 seed --- maybe even for a host slot

SEC had 7 hosts last year. If they only get 6 this year, do you leave out Arkansas?

Seems like Tennessee, Vandy, Auburn and Us (unless we get swept) are locks and Georgia, Arky and most likely hosts pending a bad weekend
W

last year the committee dipped down to RPI #22 to grab the last host -- the #16 host Louisiana Tech.

I would guess that the cut line is right there again.

Arkansas has holes in their resume. Only 6-6 on the road. Only 10-9 vs. the top 50. And a terrible non-conference SoS of 253

That's why our sweep today was so important. One loss to State and we fall way below the cut line.

Don't count LSU out just yet, they have a good RPI opportunity at Vandy the last weekend plus Hoover....my guess is the SEC gets 6 with an outside chance at 7 hosts.

right now it looks like #9 Georgia Southern and #10 Maryland will host.

Dallas Baptist remains the wildcard at RPI #5.

if 3 mid-majors host, that leaves 13 spots for the power conferences.

the Pac-12 will get 2. The ACC should get 5.

which leaves 6 for the SEC and Big 12 to fight over

They'd have to sweep Vandy I think

I don't think both Dallas Baptist and Georgia Southern host. Especially is DBU finishes third in the Missouri Valley.

Not sure about Georgia Southern hosting. They play our old friends from Arlington (UTA) next weekend at home who currently sit at # 255 and have a 15-36 record. They also play # 45 Mercer at home in a midweek game. For sure if they lose one game to UTA they will not host.

2 out of 3 against Vandy would get their RPI at least back to the mid 20's and then playing into the weekend in Hoover would put them right back in the hosting convo.

Woodward is asleep at the wheel and forgot to cancel LSU's midweek game next week against #219 Northwestern State.
