Speaking of lazy, I went super simple here. 4:1 or so Hoppy Refresher to Gin for a warm summer evening drink. Love the flavor interaction between these ingredients.

If you haven't gotten on the Enzoni bandwagon... then "toot toot" boys and girls! I made mine with cotton candy grapes. They were smallish so I used 7 instead of the prescribed 5. Earth shattering. If you didn't like Campari and it's collecting dust on the back of your bar is time to resurrect that bad boy. I defy anyone to say they dislike Campari after trying this cocktail!!!

I tried this today, but I only had green grapes. It sort of tasted like drinking grapefruit juice. Is that accurate? It's a bitter drink, but not as intensely bitter as a negroni. Not bad overall.

Negroni is tough to improve on but I may give it a try sometime.

I'm still struggling with the idea that there are people who don't like Campari.

Took me some getting bc used to. And if you aren't a gin fan, a Negroni is probably the worst drink to have that be your intro to Campari to the point it might turn someone off completely

That being said, I finally took a liking to it when I started drinking some Jungle Birds when the wife and I went to the Keys for our 2nds babymoon , and from then on, as they say, it's history. Love the stuff

My BiL is in Barcelona with his wife. I told him to try to get into Paradiso, Sips or Two Schmucks. Paradiso was too hard to get into and they read reviews on Two Schmucks they didn't like. So they went back to their hotel bar. Passed on trying to get into 3 of the Top 10 Bars in the world. Barcelona is literally the center of the cocktail universe. But WTF do I know?!

What's a good 4th of July cocktail? Something I can start drinking at 9am while I'm blaring Tobey Keith.

Thanks!

Depends on how far into the July 4th holiday you want to be awake.

I made a "Green Point" last night and really liked it. I'm going to vary the rye and try again which I think will improve the flavor.

2 oz Rye
1/2 oz Yellow Chartreuse
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 dash Angostura Bitters
1 dash Orange Bitters
Lemon Twist zested and garnish

Stir all ingredients in mixing glass with ice until chilled. Pour into a chilled coupe, zest lemon peel.

I hosted a 4th party yesterday and we used fresh watermelon to make watermelon margaritas and drank them in the pool most of the day.

Used an immersion blender to mix 3 parts watermelon and 1 part sugar. Then made the cocktails. We called it Freedom Water because it was red.

2 oz watermelon syrup
1 oz lime juice
1 oz triple sec (Cointreau)
3-4 oz tequila of your choice
1/2 oz grand marnier floater if you like it

Shake and strain onto fresh ice.

That's a big a$$ watermelon!

I forgot to mention I rimmed the glass in Tajin and garnished with a watermelon cube. Wish I took a pic.

Also, if you add a little vodka to the watermelon syrup it lasts longer in the fridge (like 10 days vs 3). I didn't do this.

Nice! I always have Tajin on deck. I'm really looking forward to this!

After tinkering I landed on the recipe my wife and I really liked then for the party I scaled the recipe and used my big shaker and pre made a pitcher of it so we could reload in the pool without getting back in the kitchen to mix up more

I stumbled upon a recipe for an Eastside Rickey, it looked very refreshing, and sure enough it is.

2oz gin (I used Hendrick's)
.75oz lime juice
.75oz simple syrup
3-4 slices of English cucumbers
6-8 mint leaves
Top with Club soda
Pinch of kosher salt*

*For any drink with lime juice in it, I have been adding a pinch of salt. It just seems to round out the flavors.

I strained it onto fresh ice to help water it down as you drink it.

I made this but halved the sweetener. I enjoyed it and wound up making one for my wife also. Followed this up with "The Stark" which is also a bourbon cocktail.

The Stark
1.5 oz Bourbon (I used Old Scout)
0.75 oz Yellow Chartreuse
0.5 oz Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Honey Syrup (3:1 water:honey)

Shake with ice and strain over fresh ice. Top with a dash or two of Angostura bitters. I really liked this one.

I tried the Stockyard Pony tonight.

I thought it would be overly sweet with 1 ounce of simple, but it was well balanced and still had a nice bitterness to it.

I used Wolcott bonded.

Out of limes, made a smokey lemon margarita tonight. Tart lemons from my tree. 2:1 blanco to Cointreau, splash agave, mezcal floater. Tajin rim.

No pic unfortunately.

One of my all time faves! Especially this time of year. If you find you like Amaro cocktails you should try a Jungle Bird.

So I did make this over the weekend. I'd suggest a slight change to the recipe. Cut the water to 2 cups during the lime blending step. Otherwise I feel like it's a bit too diluted at the end. I was also using pebble ice which made it worse in terms of dilution.

I can never get blended drinks to have a strong flavor. I usually just opt for making them on the rocks.
