Is there a substitute for Green Chartreuse? That stuff is incredibly expensive for a cocktail ingredient.

Not really. You could try Fernet Branca mixed with something like St. Germaine but then you'd have bought 2 where you could have bought just the one. It's also got an underlying nuttiness so throw in some nut flavored Liqueur... you see where I'm going. Honestly green Chartreuse is worth the price of admission. It'll last a long time with its high abv. It's great on its own as a bartenders handshake.

I love Fernet Branca. My favorite thing at a whiskey bar is to tell the bartender I REALLY like Fernet and to surprise me with their own creation.

They usually get giddy and end up doing some crazy things.

I made some homemade passion fruit syrup Monday so I could make hurricanes on Fat Tuesday. The syrup is very sweet almost like a liquid fruit roll-up. I think next time I'll use 1:1 simple instead of 2:1 as the base. The fruit was Goya frozen passion fruit pulp. Recipe is from Pat O's via Smuggler's Cover book.

I made (what would have been) an amazing raspberry syrup the other day...problem was I got busy drinking in the whiskey bunker and left it on the stove too long. Completely burned what was in the sauce pan (the rest bubbled up and spilled over the sides). I tried a spoonful of what was left on the stove top and it was delicious. *wipes tear from cheek

That's a much fancier variation of a cocktail I make..

Bourbon
Grand marnier
Benedictine
Sweet vermouth
Orange bitters
Angostura bitters
(Sometimes I substitute a tiny bit of Fernet Branca for bitters)
Small squeeze of fresh orange
Blood orange wedge that's been soaked in whiskey instead of cocktail cherry

I don't know about weird but if you want a tiki cocktail featuring bourbon you could try the Suffering B@stard.

1 oz bourbon
1 oz London dry gin
.5 oz lime juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
serve in a colllins glass, top with ginger beer and garnish with mint sprig

Paper Plane
.75 oz bourbon
.75 oz Aperol
.75 oz Amaro Nonino
.75 oz lemon juice
Sazerac

The original Suffering ******* recipe uses brandy, not bourbon. It is credited to Joe Scialom at the Shepheard's Hotel, Cairo, 1942.

I've got a can or so of crushed pineapple and a request to mix something for mixed company. Looks like there are a few mix with vodka type of drinks. Any other suggestions?

I'd go rum all the way with that. Lots of Tiki type options.

Tonight I made a Bee's Knees but with a little flourish...a splash of Green Chartreuse and St. Germaine... holy **** that was good!!! The gin I used was a bit unique as it was Antique Gin from Treaty Oak that was aged in a barrel.

Anybody mix up anything classy for their leading ladies today?! I made the mom crew at our pool party Berry Mojitos. Friday I made a berry syrup by boiling raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries with a simple syrup. Boiled them 20-30min on a low simmer then passed them through a strainer and bottled. The mojito recipe was more or less:
2oz rum (I used 1:1 white and gold rum mixed)
.5 oz berry syrup
1/2 lime muddled or juiced and thrown in
1 strawberry cut into quarters
~5 blueberries
2-3 mint leaves
Shake all of the above vigorously over ice and dump entire contents into glass. Pour club soda over the top (you could use champagne if you prefer). Garnish with extra mint sprig.

.5 oz of syrup keeps them with a nice acidic pop. You could double it off you like em dessert sweet.

I don't know if it's any cheaper, but I buy a 1/2 gal of lemon/lime juice at specs for like $8 and then poured into ice molds and freeze. Makes a ton of cubes. Just pop in the microwave for 30sec and you have fresh juice.

Is it refrigerated or pasteurized with preservatives to make it shelf stable?! GTFO if it's the latter.

100% juice that's in their cooler, nothing added. No idea on the brand.

I made batched cocktails for a friend's birthday party where we met at an outdoor music venue that was BYOB. The music was great... it was a Beatles cover band! Cocktail menu was:
- Spicy pineapple ritas
- Forbidden Sour
- Gordon's Cups
- Vodka based Clover Club

I also made a bad ass batch of hummus that I finished 3 different ways (plain, pesto and sun-dried tomato).

I've started making lime "super juice" using lime, citric acid, and Malic acid. I'm not going to pretend to understand the chemistry behind the oleo citrate, etc., I just know it works and tastes basically the same, if not better. It's fridge stable for at least two weeks and keep more in the freezer. Can get ~ 8oz of juice out of one lime.

Here's a couple videos. First is more of the background/original approach and the second is a good way to scale it.

If making for a crowd the recipe is:

30 pack of 'stones
1 can of Countrytime pink lemonade mix(the powder stuff)
1 handle of vodka, or everclear if you are feeling sporty...
Mix well and serve. Plan accordingly for hangovers and great memories from your favorite college parties.

I like 400 Conejos if you can find it. Del Maguey Vida is pretty common and good also.
