And in a wonderful turn of events I got the Ardbeg 17 year on a Total Wine private client email offer, super stoked.

This Concierge pick sounds delightful.

Glenmorangie A Tale of Ice Cream Limited Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky

On the nose, a burst of Manuka honey and vanilla with lemon butter candy, baking raisin bread, candied orange peel, peaches, toffee, and a hint of spice. The texture is thick, rich, and creamy, followed by a huge burst of sweet and spicy flavorsbrioche, honeycomb, fudge, lemon sherbet, coconut, and cinnamon. Hints of toffee popcorn in a long aftertaste.

I'm hopeful it's of similar quality as A Tale of Cake! Tasting notes sure seem promising.

I just got into scotch the last few month and am really enjoying it. Got a lot to learn though.

I haven't really tried enough to know what type I like and know the difference between them all.

So far I've gone through bottles of JW Red/Black/Gold and had several glasses Glenlivet 12. Obviously nothing impressive about those really, but my favorite was the Black label.

Seems like the blends are frowned upon more, or maybe that's just a scotch snob thing?

I still cant do neat, but really like on the rocks.

I'll try some of the stuff mentioned in this thread.

If you have any other recommendations or advice for a beginner let me have it

Now that you've wet your beak on some starter scotches, I would try a few things from across the spectrum on this chart. Will help you hone in on what kind of characteristics you like in a scotch. Cheers

I thought the same thing! I missed Cake, so really looking forward to this one.

I kick myself for not buying all the Cake I could at the time, have one unopened in the bunker, would buy a case if I ever find more. Let's go Ice Cream, please be on point...

If you're in Houston I'll gladly crack that Cake to share so you can try it.

That is a big spend for a win over Bowling Green, guess The Kingsman would be for a W at Jerryworld (only kidding).

What are your thoughts on the Glen Scotia?

Bought my first bottle of this last week. Great bottle and a pretty good value as well. Still has a peaty quality to it also. Would feel wrong for an Islay scotch to not retain some kind of a smoky characteristic.

TW Concierge has The Macallan Harmony Vibrant Oak available for pre-order, $187.97.

I ordered one to keep the Harmony vertical intact. I wish I had loaded up on the first edition, it was great, but the second and third did not reach the same heights for me so I'm hesitant to get two of this release.

What are people's thoughts on the Highland Park cask strength releases?

I got the cask strength release #5 and it reminds me of Ardbeg Uigedail with a little more sherry and less smoke. Also a bit more heat at 129 proof.

Any opinions on Chivas Regal 12 year? My neighbor gave me a bottle and I don't know much about scotch. I think it is an older bottle from the looks of the bottle and box compared to web searches

It's their standard bottling, blended whisky, will be very easy to drink. Not in my flavor profile but if a gift I'd say thank you nevertheless. If it's really an older bottling then go grab a new one (you can get a mini to keep cost minimal) and side by side to see if you see a difference in flavor profile for fun.

I've tried time and again with HP and I've yet to find one that I'd seek out even though i want to like it. I have friends that are huge fans so I just sample theirs. I do have a 1978 in the bunker, but that's not a random weeknight pour. At the end of the day, If you like it, drink it!

I bought Batch 4 after I saw it ranked #2 on Whiskey Advocate's top 20 list for 2023. I like it quite a bit. I still see Batch 3 and 4 on the shelf, and occasionally Batch 2. Haven't read anything about those that motivated me to purchase them yet. Haven't seen Batch 5 yet.

Makes sense, def wouldn't consider the #5 an everyday drinker. It's a great change of pace from some of the other bottles I have though.

Also, you must have one hell of a bunker

Octomore 15.1, 15.2 and 15.3 now in the bunker, seeing good things about this year's release... no clue as to when they get opened, no cold weather on the horizon.

The 15.3 has me interested. I may finally buy a bottle, having tried the previous peat record holder when 8.3 came out.

Edit: Did find and purchase a bottle. I think it's awesome, but not for the faint of heart as it initially smells and tastes like the Balrog was having a barbecue before fighting Gandalf. Does not drink like a 61% boozer, and I can easily pick out many flavors through all the smoke. Will update tasting notes on a clean palate tonight.

Edit2:
This one is good for a couple sips neat, but demands water. It does not necessarily burn, but will numb your tongue. Opens up tremendously with a few drops. Lots of brineyness at first, and a wallop of burnt marshmallow / smoke after. Picking up on sugar cookie / caramel after.
Very light mouthfeel but huge finish that won't let up. Best I can describe is like Ardbeg Uigaedail with less sherry but dialed up to 11.

Man I haven't posted here in a while but I was just about to ask if anyone had seen Springbank. I was getting worried they were shutdown. I love the 10.
