Unfortunately, I rarely get down to the Holy City. We'd like to hit a football game occasionally, but it's too difficult with crowds and traffic. Appreciate the offer, it would be great to find another 2.0 and swap them out!

Well if that changes just drop a line and we'll see if we can figure something out.

Grabbed a Laphroaig batch 17 cask strength since I didn't have one yet.

So do y'all have any specific bottles are looking for that would be unicorns to you or something already in your possession that are not going to be opened until a major life event? I find it very interesting as to what are 'grail' bottles in the scotch world as it is such a broad realm and a great conversation piece. I have a couple bottles that are key life achievement openers, like a 1978 Ardbeg and some vintage cask balvenie from '66 and '71, but also some less obvious choices that just piqued my interest but have yet to pop the top on.

This Ardbeg is now available on the Total Wine Concierge site for pre-order, $125 a pop (48.3% ABV).

The Ardnahoe was on the shelf so I grabbed one to try it out later as today is for Woodford Reserve.

I picked mine up, and also saw them on the shelf already. I told the wife the tasting notes on the box. She loled and said she'll have to try it and see if that's all accurate.

Today is beer day, we're at the Dallas Aggie Crawfish feast.

Decided to open the Ardnahoe after all. For a 5 year, it is quite good. A lighter peat than some other Islays, I thought.

Just scored a bottle of Talisker 18 at my local mom and pop. I haven't seen a bottle of this for sale in a LONG time.

Great find, I've probably only seen 3 or 4 in the past five years and only in the most random shops. My favorite talisker expression so far.

How did it compare to the tasting notes?

I truly wish I had the talent for tasting notes, but I do not. I read tasting notes, and compare them to things that I like that have similar tasting notes, which helps me make purchase decisions.

I find that if I'm stumbling on something my wife can pick it out if I pester her enough. It's funny how females have a proven better taste profile, very helpful when I'm stuck unable to put a finger on a smell or flavor.

Holy Moses - walking the aisles of Spec's on Texas Ave and lo and behold, SPRINGBANK 10 & 15 BACK ON THE SHELF!

There was one bottle of the 15 and a couple of the 10's still there when I left.

I hadn't seen Springbanks at a store in more than a few years! Whoooop!

My wife is much better at tasting notes than I am. Even though she enjoys the scotches and whiskies, she's not into it all like I am.

I still have a half bottle of 18 in my cabinet. Top notch stuff.

Has anyone tried Glenallachie? I have a friend who is a bourbon guy that swears it's the best scotch he's ever had. In particular, the 15 year.

I've had the 10 year. Solid pour, especially for the price.

Hello scotch folks. Anyone familiar with bottler/distillery?

My parents grabbed me a bottle of this on a recent trip to Scotland and i'm wondering what the odds of it being good were or if they got the scotch equivalent of Chestnut Farms.

I'm still looking for Springbank. It's one of my favorite drams. I don't get to Specs too often, but I've not seen it in Sherman or Allen.

11 year old Royal Brackla from an indy bottler I've not heard of. Highland distillery, should be honeyed and floral with a good bit of proof feel (spice) on the finish at 53.6%. Side of the box says pears (I think), butterscotch and cinnamon so it may err on the side of white fruit and not floral. I would hope it is not Chestnut Farms in quality as you do know the actual source and not just "single malt scotch whisky".

If you like sherry, you won't find a better value than Glenallachie 15. It's so good I can't keep a bottle in my liquor cabinet for long. It's a lot better than Macallan's offerings and way cheaper.

Thanks. I figure it can't be any worse than some of the ASMs i have purchased.

I came home from a trip to DC with a bottle of Springbank 10. The shop also had a Pedro Ximenez sherry Springbank (PX 10) but I was too lolpoor to buy it. Likely a mistake.

Got the bottle in today. Took just a small taste and your notes are not far off. All in all not too bad. Will definitely enjoy the bottle when i want something a bit different.

Well that's good, glad it wasn't a drain pour, but I didn't figure it would be. Indy bottlers over there tend to be just fine if not great at what they do, unlike here where anyone with a pulse gives it a go just like Total Wine

I'm headed to Specs on Smith St. (Have to pick up a case of Oban cask strength for my buddy at will call), let's see what I can spend money on today.

Some nice stuff on the shelf at Specs but I wasn't in the mood for 400 dollar bottles today haha. Snagged another Kilchoman sanaig cask strength and a couple beers but that's all

Is this the Glenallachie Malt 2006 15 yr Oloroso Puncheon? My local Specs shows they have it in stock for sale at $100.

Just the normal old Glenallachie 15 year.

Good, the one they showed in the app ended up not being in stock. The standard model sounds easier to find.
