Reports could come from anywhere. It doesn't mean anything is happening or that the Spurs are all that interested in making a move.
Regardless of all that, the price for DJ should be extraordinarily high right now. I can't even think of an Atlanta package that makes sense.

In talking with multiple sources around the NBA, many believe Hawks on verge of trading for San Antonio's All-Star guard Dejounte Murray - However, it's looking like John Collins is not part of deal. Would be Gallo & multiple 1st round picks. Spurs prepping for future & '23 draft

You beat me to it. I wonder what our plan at PG will be if we do trade Dejounte? I like Tre Jones, but he's not a starting caliber PG. do we take a flyer on a guy like Collin Sexton in free agency?
Word is the front office thinks Primo is special. It's going to be his year of being thrown into the fire. It will get him good experience and build chemistry with our young guys and teenagers while FINALLY getting out of the middle of the pack and getting a good draft pick.
I also bet we use cap space to absorb contracts and acquire even more draft assets. And try to flip those contracts for more assets throughout the year. Doesn't make sense getting guys in FA.

I'd love to have a legit shot at drafting Victor Wembanyama next year.
Unsure how substantial the most recent report is, but the reason the Spurs would take back Gallinari from the Hawks is to get more draft capital. They can just waive him before his partial guarantee fully guarantees. Makes less sense to get less back for a win now John Collins

I realize a modern rebuild is get rid of all of your all star but not super star type players, but count me as a Spurs fan that truly hates this.
DJ is our longest tenured Spur and has done nothing but fully embrace this team, the culture, and improving every year. We aren't even guaranteed we get a top pick the new lotto system.

Not if they're the ones they just got. Most are HEAVILY lotto protected.

For what it's worth yes I love DJ but he's 26 and UFA in 2 years. Are we where PATFO thinks we need to be to contend before needing to lock DJ up to a max? The FA class this year...I don't think there's a max guy there worth pursuing this off season and it's not to say there are no good ones this year. I think before the draft you could have gotten two firsts for Jakob. I think we would only get one first for him now.
Edit: especially because it's an expiring. The downside would be that only contenders would really be interested.
By the way, either next year or the year after that HS kids will be eligible again.

Well they wouldn't have to give up any assets to sign Brunson.

I dont see Ayton as a max player. But it wouldn't be a terrible move to sign him to a near max offer sheet. Phoenix will either have to match or let him go. Then the Spurs would have nice asset to play with.
