Unless the fine print in the CBA has changed Spurs
Could do something like front load Ayton to where Suns would have massive salary cap bill next two years too.

Will be interesting to see if Spurs make that call or if they are planning for next summer.

I have a feeling that the Suns would force his hand and match whatever. Then trade him later after. They don't want to lose him for nothing.

The thoughts going around that Monty isn't a fan of Ayton makes me feel like Pop would have inside info from Monty and if there's never even a hint of Ayton to SA I think that'll be how we know.

Spurs have to make a decision on giving Lonnie the QO today. If they don't, he becomes an UFA. If they do, it eats into our cap.

I assume the branham pick means Lonnie gone one way or another.

I've seen multiple reports on Twitter this morning that Lonnie is not expected back. Kinda figured given the nature of the draft but now that leaves the $31 million available. Curious what our approach is gonna be

At this point isn't Lonnie more of a 9-12 guy in the rotation? Nice guy, great glue guy etc but ultimately not gonna be room on the roster...that's how i see it. Isn't his QO in the $5-6mill range?

They can still pull his offer if they need to clear cap space, and pretty much everything I've seen indicates that Walker won't sign this offer.

That's the smart move. If he signs a big deal you let him walk. If he doesn't sign a deal it means nobody wants him and he needs to play for $6m in SA

I didn't realize this.

As an admitted ~25-year-long bandwagon fan of the Spurs, how do you root for this team now?

Like, seriously, what's the attachment to it or hope for the future?

The restrictions (or lack there of) will be very important for this deal.

Well they have 5-6 promising 19 year olds and apparently a bunch of picks. It's all about the future for this team.

Hoping that Charlotte pick doesn't have heavy protections.

Only like $5mm of Gallo's contract is guaranteed, so we likely waive him.

Surely we will buy out/trade Gallo.

I found this on realgm

Quote:

2023 first round draft pick from Charlotte

Charlotte's 1st round pick to Atlanta (via New York) protected for selections 1-16 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025; if Charlotte has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Atlanta by 2025, then Charlotte will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round draft pick to Atlanta [Charlotte-New York, 7/30/2021; Atlanta-New York, 1/13/2022]

2023 Charlotte 1st Rounder
2025 Atl 1st Rounder
2027 Atl 1st Rounder
2026 Pick Swap with Atl.

That's extremely disappointing. Might not ever see that 1st rounder.

There could be language that if the 2023 Charlotte Pick doesn't get used by x date, it converts to pick swaps/atl pick.

If we can flip Gallo for a 1st that would be ideal. But I'm so so on this trade.

Since we moved on from Washington, they pulled the trigger with Denver.

The Denver Nuggets are nearing a deal to send Will Barton and Mont Morris to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith.

Gotta take back ~$20mm

So a bunch of almost certainly late first-round picks?

Welp, we aren't gonna use our cap space to get good players.

The Hawks had 3 top-10 picks in the last half decade.

The last time Atlanta picked 25th or worse was 1996.

Not sure they are a team I believe will become a dominating superpower.
