It looks like it is likely the Spurs will not be in a lottery position better than 8th.

Of course the earlier pick would be better but this draft is really deep. The top 3 picks are pretty easy to pinpoint but after that it is anybody's guess. In my opinion, this is a good draft to have multiple picks. With 3 picks 8-20, the Spurs should get some good players.

On another note, anybody think that they will try to trade McDermott? With the way Richardson is playing I just don't see them holding onto him.

He is definitely playing on a different level. He is being aggressive and looking to shoot the ball every time down the floor. He is making much better decisions which probably means he's not overthinking it like he used to. He is super confident right now and I'm glad to see it.

From a drafting perspective I agree, not a huge difference. But better odds for a top 4 are better odds for a top 4.

I think it's clear McDermott is expendable. He shot the three at a decent clip but I don't think he contributes to winning on this team as constructed.

It's encouraging to see. However we are still 4-9 in those games he has gone off. He's playing a lot better than I thought he would at this point in the season but still someone I would not want to offer more than half of the mid level rate.

Lonnie can score. He doesn't do much else right now. He could be a great assist man if he'd pass the ball. Count me as one who like him but only at the right price and coming off the bench.

Fun win tonight. Primo got the the start. Richardson had a big game.

Spurs only 1 game back in the loss column of 10th NOLA.

Spurs have tie breaker with NOLA too.

Would be about right for Pop to push these guys into a meaningless play in game instead of hitting the lotto and a genuine chance to improve.

There's a whole pro-tanking camp for sure. But this wishing for losses is getting out of hand. This team played yesterday missing 3 of their top 8 rotation players. Primo has started the last few games. Is it really terrible that these young guys are playing well? That sounds like improvement to me.

I promise you the current players and staff don't give a damn about who is getting drafted next.

Its also pretty weird to root for losses when this team can't really improved their lottery odds. The teams behind them suck so bad they won't be "caught" in this race to the bottom.

Also, realistically, we are probably only looking at a difference of two spots max. This is mitigated by our other two (hopefully) first rounders that we could use if we really wanted to move up to get a guy.

What a weird take. A coach is trying to get his insanely young team to fight and play hard, and you're complaining. The alternative being they tank, and have a 4.5% chance of instead of a 1% chance.

Spoiled brats, the lot of you.

Can I also remind all you pro-tanking people that the NBA is currently dealing with an issue where high profile players can seemingly ditch their teams whenever the **** they want with zero repurcussions (other than maybe you get booed the two times a year you have to go play against your old team).

I'm not saying I don't want the number 1 pick, but the days of drafting Kobe, LeBron (kinda), Timmy, etc., and them sticking around winning you a title are mostly gone.

Giannis looks like a dinosaur compared to all these primadonnas.

Primo is logging serious minutes. Keldon is our second leading scorer. Even Wieskamp is getting minutes and he really shouldn't be right now. God forbid we allow our young team to play to whatever level they're capable of.

Play-in can also be a huge boost for a young team. See Memphis.

Some of you seem content with the hamster wheel of mediocrity. SA is not a top shelf FA destination. Hell, it's bottom five probably.

This team's best chance for a franchise player is through the draft. Making the play-in and getting trounced ain't going to improve our odds on that.

I just don't think tanking guarantees you anything. Even among the consensus top guys there is no sure fire star player. And that's if you can get top 4. Picks 5 through 14 are all a crap shoot if you ask me. You have a better shot at developing Keldon, Primo, DJ or Devin into upper tier players.

Sure nothing is guaranteed.

But if those guys need these last eight games to develop into upper tier players I'm sure we can wait.

And do what exactly? Tell them to stop playing hard? Typically you tank by playing young guys. Well what if your young guys win games?

Spurs also have the tie breaker with the Lakers (conference record). And the Lakers' remaining schedule is a bear. So two avenues of making the playin. If Spurs can go 500 they have a really good shot.

Echoing below - wait for what? We are playing our young players. They're winning. Why would you derail that?

Nah the playin has been very effective in detouring tanking. Take the West, for instance, you have 3-4 teams tanking instead of 7. Then you have the flat bottom three odds for the lottery. Nba has it right.

Teams 15 games unde .500 making the playoffs is a joke

Teams are still tanking

Crap teams have always made the playoffs, one of those early MJ teams made the playoffs at 30-52. At least this way those teams in the 8-12 spots have a reason to try and win, which leads to a more meaningful regular season. I don't know what you could do to increase competitiveness at the bottom more at this point other than introducing relegation.

Getting AD back might give a slight edge to the Lakers. It's going to be a very close finish.

Losing to Memphis moves the spurs back out of the 10 spot. What a painful missed layup by Keldon

I was at the game behind the bench and they were fuming about the missed foul calls
