News for the holiday weekend...

Torreira
There are claims out of Italy that Torino have offered us 24m for Lucas Torreira. That matches the offer from Fiorentina but is permanent deal vs loan with an obligation.

Would like to get a bit more but that is a strong offer considering what we paid for him, his form/results in the EPL and COVID impact.

Holding / Defense
Seeing some reports that we no longer plan to let Holding leave this summer. That makes me think that...

A) someone's (Mustafi or Mari) injury is worse than expected
B) we have an offer for another CB or 2 besides Sokratis (Mustafi or Chambers?)
C) one of our healthy CBs got hurt in training

Have a feeling that Duezy is going no where. Arteta made a comment a couple weeks ago about him having a clean slate. Now Duezy teets this after finishing up the U21 international break...



Seems like he is gonna be given the opportunity to work his way back and he seems receptive. Hope it works out. Can't help but wonder if this is because of lack of quality offers/interest or if he actually sees the error of his ways and wants to make good.

Looking more and more like our MF is gonna be Xhaka, Dani, Duezy, Willock and someone new (either Partey or Aouar if current rumors are true)

I said awhile back that (1) Guendouzi leaving would make it look like he's running from his problems and (2) the ideal outcome for Arsenal would be to keep a Guendouzi that's addressing his issues and working hard.

There's no telling why he's staying, but that's a positive tweet.

It could all go wrong again, but it certainly is becoming more and more clear that Arteta has a special ability to connect with players.

I've not seen its final between the clubs, but it seems it has to be a matter of time.

Wish we could keep him, wish he'd give one more year to battle it out, but I also know its been a romanticized situation, so to speak. I'm cautiously optimistic Bernd Leno will quickly remind folks he's really damn good and we won't feel so upset about it.

I think Leno is the better keeper, but I really enjoyed having Martinez be so dominant in the air when collecting set pieces or crosses. Leno leaves a lot to be desired there

Emi also is better at distribution. Im ok with either but i really kind of hoped Emi would stay. Honestly though with COVID i dont see anyone that has cash to spend needing a GK enough to take Leno off our hands.

Only Arsenal could have 8 CBs on the team and 5 of them are injured to start the season. Ridiculous. Our options for tomorrow are Holding, Saliba or Gabriel. Granted I expect we'll have a back 3 of Saliba, Holding and Tierney.

Just read that he wont be travelling with the team to the game. Also saw something about Brighton teying to get in on the deal last minute.

I think I read that Brighton have offered more money, but Martinez wants to be the guaranteed #1 and Brighton don't currently plan on moving Ryan on.

Probably gonna be wrong but just my guess...

4-2-3-1 because the 3-4-3 has not worked as well for us against "lesser" teams. Works great against City, Pool, etc... but our offense has trouble cracking the defense when the lesser teams hunker in.

ST - Eddie
W - PEA & Saka (Pepe subbed on around 70th possibly for Eddie with PEA shifting up top)
AM - Willian or Ozil (whoever starts gets subbed out 60-70th)
CM - Xhaka & Dani
FB - Tierney & AMN
CB - Holding & Saliba (Gabi possible but he hasn't been training with us as long)
GK - Leno

Even when we play with a "back 3", we often move out of it when we're attacking into something that's more like a classic back 4.

To the point above, when we're not as worried about someone ripping our defense a new *******, we can probably be more confident just sticking with a back 4.

Then again, Arteta puts a premium on organization and maybe he'll want the team to learn to play how it will play against the big boys.

Agree with this. The problem is that the back 3 ultimately takes a MF (typically a creative one) off the pitch for the extra defender. The attacking shape may ultimately be more like a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 but you still have 5 defenders (2 FB/WB and 3 CBs) on the field.
