When was Snuffers? I must have missed that during my 8 yr hiatus. Was Mommas Pizza where Torchys is or where Canes is ? Snuffers in Dallas was a great place. Had some great times there in HS there after a concert..... now some sketchy sports bar I hear.
Snuffers was around the time they were doing construction on Texas Ave to install the medians. The long construction was blamed for killing off the place. Sometime before or after Snuffers that location was a sushi restaurant.

can't remember exactly where mamma's pizza was (torch's area), just remember the pinball machine.

Winn Dixie, paramount video at shopping center on tx/sw pkwy (always wondered what rated X meant when I was <10 years old)
the 7-11 that had the arcade on sw pkwy, close to shipley's
when the carnival was at the k-mart parking lot (where tractor supply is now)
Circus at the Hall (RIP)
Pancho's at Los Cuco's
I worked at Swenson's
Wasn't there an arcade between Swensen's and Los Cucos before the mail store?
Kodak film developer (Shiraz Shish-ka-bab)
Fuddruckers was by target
Mazzio's pizza (Harvey washbangers), 2 day video/ blockbuster in same center
I bought a lot of goosebumps books at Hastings (now POETS)
Chinese restaurant that had the yellowest rice on wellborn (already been mentioned, close to Luther st)
South Knoll had a playground that broke kids bones
Skaggs at University/College Ave
Casa Tomas the indoor fountain with the gold light and goldfish (then grocery store, and now BCS Fitness?)

Casa Tomas in Bryan was our favorite. Later became a Cajun place and then Jacque's Toys and Books, among other things.

Grand station was a lumber yard back when Wolfe's was around. And to the prior mention of multiple Snuffers in Dallas, yes they did do a chain. But the original was on Lower Greenville.

That was a Lowes at one point....probably 1980's... Then Furrow came in and put Lowes out of business. Now Furrow is gone and we have 2 Lowes.

Was a Lowe's in 1985

Furrows predated Lowe's. Was funny the GM of that Lowe's was a ATC controller that Regan fired over the strike. Was always talking smack about how he emerged from the rubble and was going to conquer the lumber business. Was not long after when Lowe's decided they expanded to rapidly and closed the store and he was optimized again.
Ernie Camp bought some years later and put in the bowling alley. When he went to the chamber grand opening for the Lowe's in Bryan he was walking around with a tape measure, measuring random things. The new GM asked him why he was measuring. He told him according to is preliminary evaluation he could probably get 300 lanes in there when they died.

How about Games Galore!!! The absolute best arcade. Can't remember exactly when it shut down. If it was the 90s, it was prob right at '90 or '91. But I think it may have actually been the late '80s
It was still open in the early '90s. I came here in '89, and it was still open for several years after I moved here. I have an old Defender cabinet now running MAME that used to be in Games Galore.

Hastings was a few doors down from Poets. Poets was actually Bullwinkles in the 90's, among other bars.

There was the Black Belt Academy between Bullwinkles and Hastings.

Actually, Bullwinkle's was at the north end of Culpepper Plaza where that boxing place was most recently.

You're right. I was thinking Poets took over that corner spot like all the other bars that have been there. I need to get out more!

Same spot was also Confederate Railroad and later Mama's Pizza before Bullwinkle's. There was some seafood place there that didn't last long after Bullwinkle's closed, as I recall.

Grapevine Twice Baked Potato
Ingredients
4 potatoes (2 pounds), c. sour cream, cc butter, 1/3 c. bacon bits,
2 T bacon bits for topping, 2 ounces Swiss, 4 ounces Munster

Recipe
If you leave out the bacon bits, you will need to add salt.
Always prepare the potatoes at least 12 hours ahead of time.
Wash potatoes and place in 500 degree oven. Do not wrap them in foil.
This allows the skin to harden so they can be scooped out. Bake for 1 hour.
Fry 8 slices of bacon 6 for the potatoes and 2 for the toppings.
Chop this into very small pieces.
Put the Swiss in a food processor and chop for 6-8 seconds.
Add the Munster and chop till it is a little smaller than peas.

Take a toothpick and check the potatoes for doneness.
Steam should come out of the hole.
Cut off the tops, making a hole big enough so you can scoop them out with a spoon.
Put the insides in a mixing bowl with butter, sour cream, and bacon bits.
After mixing put this back in the skins.
Top with cheese and bacon and refrigerate for 12 hours to 5 days.
Reheat at 350 degrees for 35-50 minutes

Guessing "Burgundy" is Gallo Hearty Burgundy, because 6 cups of the real thing will cost you your first born!

I'm full disclosure the Gallo stuff is what I use for mine.
