its gotta be within the next few weeks (unless they are artificially holding them back longer).

in the wild box shots of the packaging. http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/179658-pics-pres-box.html (says it was manufactured 5/4/09)

Unfortunately, word on the street is, we are looking at a June 7th, possibly June 5th date to hit up the weekend sales.

Look for an official announcement 1 week from today, on May 19th! Yes OFFICIAL release date!

It's really going to stink if they do limit the release (a la Nintendo Wii) to build up hype. There's no way I'm waiting in line for a phone.

Ditto. I've got a Mogul that works great.

June 07 is what Sprintgurus is saying, I'd take that to the bank. Some of the Pre fan sites are saying that on May 19th Sprint will be announcing the release in the WSJ.

Is there anything I can do to get out of paying $200 to cancel my account?

News sites are starting to report this. It's official!!

Palm (PALM) will start selling the much-anticipated Pre smartphone at Sprint Nextel (S) the first week of June, the New York Times reports. That's in line with expectations; Palm had only promised to ship the device before the end of June.

But that launch date means probably only the fiercest Palm diehards will line up to buy one. Apple (AAPL) could announce a new iPhone just days later, at the company's June 8 Worldwide Developers Conference keynote.

Article in the New York Times

Tomorrow mid-morning we should get offical press release date, price, and plan informaion

Sure there is. May I ask why you want to leave Sprint instead of fighting for free stuff from them?

You can talk to retentions about all of this and even lowering your ETF price.

I highly doubt they will completely let you off the hook without finding a breach in their contract with you. For instance, I know when they rose individual txt message's price and if you were not on a unlimited txt plan, you could cancel with no penalites. They however is long gone.

I want to get an Iphone. Sprint's service is pretty good but as far as phones they don't have anything that can hang with the Iphone IMO. I have a buddy who is a store manager there and told me to wait for the new Palm phone, he told me the same thing about the Instinct (which I have). the instinct isn't that great of a phone IMO.

You been to Sprintgurus.com at all Devas? They know their stuff over there!!!

The Instinct is in no way comparable to the Pre. Only you can decide if the iPhone fits your needs better than the Pre, but don't make a decision based on the Instinct you got talked into.

How much difficulty would I have in terminating my contract with Sprint if I don't get service in or around my home? We've tried at least 5 Sprint phones, and can't get service.

I'd try to get them to give me a free airave, it's a signal booster for the house.

i've been on a Sero plan, (or rather, the F&F 500) for about a year since right before my Dad got laid off at sprint (before that i had the really cushy $15 a month Advantage Plan...)

The speaker in my phone (Katana II) has been giving out lately, and i think it finally gave up the ghost today...

I'd rather not go through sprint to get a new phone cause I'm pretty sure they're gonna try to make me change plans, and loose my $30 a month plan, which serves me perfectly well - except for my phone crapping out on me.

I have unlimited data and text with the plan I have now - so should there be any logistical issue with buying a new phone independently online, and transferring my number to it? What if i upgrade to a phone with a better web interface - i mean, my plan has unlimited data... it shouldnt matter if its easier for me to use it right?

I have a similar question. My plan expires in about a month and a half. I think I'm going to keep my SERO and get a touch pro 2 (assuming they let us use it on SERO). Can I sign another 2 year contract with the same plan and get the regular discounts just like a new customer would?

I posted this last week on another thread:

Well, I know that you can't buy a new phone from Sprint and keep Sero, but as of last week, I was able to purchase a Touch Pro (not from Sprint) and put it on an existing $30 SERO plan.

thanks rusty!

did you just do the standard line transfer?

the 800 number to activate the new phone, and then transfer your numbers in the store?

actually, I did it on the sprint.com website. It took less time than the phone or the store.

Ok, so on July 12th, Sprint will FINALLY get a new BB model, the Tour:

Early indications are that this is the best BB yet. I'm getting one.

I'm on the $30/month SERO 500 right now with a Motorola Q9c, a phone that has been great for me by the way.

So, how do I upgrade to the new Tour for $199 while also keeping my SERO status? Is there a BB pack ($30 I think) that I just add on top of my current $30 plan? Or does getting a new BB knock me off of SERO?
devastor
How long do you want to ignore this user?
golferag2003,

Unfortunately since it is a Blackberry it looks like it is going to knock you off of SERO, or you will have to pay for the Blackberry package, which is $30 more. The new SERO plans includes the Blackberry service. Cheapest one is $60 a month.

I for one am waiting ever so patiently for the Touch Pro 2. Sprint needs to announce a freakin' date though. It could be any day now.

Dev,

I used your advice on the frontpage of the Sprint SERO thread 2 years ago, so thank you for the advice on getting a cheaper plan.

Anyways, Our contract just expired again, and I noticed from reading back on the thread that the SERO plan is gone.

The wife and I actually are OK with our current plan, but would like to update our phones (for as cheap as possible ) and add the data service/texting to our account.

Should I just call retentions and threaten to cancel in order to get the new phones? We really have talked about getting iphones, but can't fathom paying the extra $30 a month each for the data plans.

Any other advice?

Thanks in advance

Golfer....

There is a way to get your SERO converted to Blackberry....

It takes diligence and patience though, good luck.

I can attest to this. About 3 months ago I successfully switched my wife and I from Palm Centros to Blackberry Curves with the help of the sprintgurus.com guys.

We now have 2 Curves, each with SERO 500 (Voice Only), free BIS/BES, 1000 free text messages a month, free picture mail.

Our Bill: $60 plus fees
Gig-Em2003
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Does BIS include BES? I don't quite understand the difference. If I want to link the BB to my Exchange account at work do I have to pay extra for BES?

Can you do this trick and get BES somehow? I will need BES to access my corporate email.
McInnis 03

Don't think that includes BES, it includes BIS.

Definitely. Everytime I call I tell them i am cancelling my lines to get the iphone and they also throw to me a good deal to keep me on. (I also would never pay $80 for the stupid iphone plan) The latest phones that you can upgrade to is the HTC Snap. Also the Touch Pro 2 should be out in the Aug/Sept. timeframe.
devastor
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Has anyone gotten the HTC Snap yet?

Also, when I get time I will clean up the first page post with all the latest info. I did get in and added working direct retentions numbers. enjoy!

For those on SERO looking for a Blackberry, I did the tutorial posted by McInnis and it worked very easily. The only thing I can't get them to honor is the $7.50 unlimited text message code.

My bill right now:

BB Tour for me
500 min, unlimited data, free N&W, BIS, BES, phone-as-modem - $30.00
1,000 Text Messages - $10.00

BB Curve for my wife
500 min, unlimited data, free N&W, BIS, BES, phone-as-modem - $30.00
1,000 Text Messages - $10.00

$80.00 per month for two BB's, unlimited data, 500 minutes, and 1,000 text messages.

Great job golfer!

I got the same but managed to get lucky and get the 1000 text messages for free, so my bill is $60 for my wife and I.

We both have curves. I am jealous you managed to get the new Tour.

What code did you use to get the free text messages? I've seen codes posted out there but they are all expired according to the reps.
devastor
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You can just call retentions and ask for free text messages. I did it and it worked.

Has anyone gotten the new HTC Touch Pro 2 and managed to stay on the SERO plan?

I bought the Mogul about 2 years ago when I got on SERO. In January, my Mogul went kaput. I pay for the monthly service fee, so they sent me the HTC Touch Diamond for only $50. I'm not a fan of it and am thinking I want to upgrade to the Touch Pro 2.
