How long do you want to ignore this user?
(I'm excited this thread is getting attention again!)

Jag, I stand corrected.

If it'll take any "everything" plan, I have login information to the SEP referral site (formerly SERO) which brings the price of a basic "Everything" plan to $59.99 I think.

But I probably can't use it with my SERO play ($30/mo, unlimited data, 500min, unlimited text), right?

devastator,

any clue on when the pre will be released? I'm holding out on a new phone until this beauty comes out.

I saw 4/30 release date recently, not sure how reliable the source was but he was a beta tester.

edit: Reports are pushing towards May now.

devastor, how did you get the Treo Pro for $99?

I guess I didn't notice it the first time I looked at the list, but I think the Treo Pro will be the phone I get if we stick with Sprint.
McInnis 03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He probably bought it at Bestbuy when they were advertising it for $99 and renewed his contract through them. They just have to call Sprint and confirm the 2 year renew to get the phone for advertised prices.

I have a feeling they are going to pull an apple release on it.... just one day out of the blue it will be on store shelves. since the guy who is running palm now was an apple guy.

And I am just waiting for it... the day it comes out im getting one. (sitting here with my just over 2yr old moto Q)

Do want, but can't justify going from $30 a month to double that unless the phone is just that awesome.

the rumored price for the GSM Pre is said to be along the lines of $500-$550, very steep for the pockets again.

Think this would be about 150 - 200 then with a 2 yr contract. All the phones they have now are 250 instant rebate and 100 mail in rebate with a 2 yr contract.

I like the larger screen the Pre has vs. the Treo Pro and the WebOS looks interesting.

DAM - what thread do you see a mention of a 4/17 release date? I see one that says mid April, but the OP is a month old.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Turg, the only way that pricing will happen is if the Pre is picked up by a GSM carrier and the carrier subsidizes the price. And I don't see that happening any time soon. AT&T has the iPhone and TMobile has the G1. I am sure Apple will do all it can to block AT&T from offering the Pre.

Now Google/HTC might not put up near the fight so it could come to TMobile. I have a feeling that if anyone who is AT&T wants a GSM Pre, they'll have to buy an unlocked version.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I get that Sprint will price the Pre extremely competitively with the iPhone. But my post was speaking to GSM version of the Pre.

Unlocked and unbranded phones are the only time the manufacturer has a direct effect on the price of a phone. Otherwise, all phones are subsidized by the carrier. That is all I was getting at with my post.
jagouar1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
speaking of pre release dates i think 5/17 is all but confirmed now. as evidenced by the many articles speculating it and now we have... http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/palm-pre-spotted-just-minding-its-own-business-in-san-fran/
and
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/13/palm-pre-launching-no-earlier-than-may-16/

and there is still the sprint employee vacation blackout for may (exactly the same thing happened for the iphone launch)

Intersting those kids are snapping photos and have the keyboards expanded. I think one of the drawbacks to the Pre will be that even though it doesn't look like you'd need it, I bet the keyboard will be out for the majority of use and that's going to make that phone pretty long in your hands.
dave99ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you have the hands of a little girl.

I don't think the Pre is that big even with the keyboard out.
jagouar1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I dont think it will be... just when needing the keyboard (email, sms, etc). I do think they have some keyboard shortcuts that may make accessing parts of the camera easier. (and there is also the aspect of not having to put your hands on the screen giving you a better view of your shot)

But who knows... evidently these kids have real pre's and they are using them w/ keyboard down so there is probably a reason. This phone just needs to hurry the hell up and come out so we can see just how good it is (and where the flaws are).

and dave is right.... I think I remember from the pre news its slightly longer than the iphone with its keyboard extended but not by much.

All,

The Pre will not be released in April. I really do not think May 17th either. We are looking at late May, early June launch.

Also the Pre is not completely out of the "Must have this plan" woods yet. They are obviously going to promote the hell out of their Everything Plans but there still is a small chance it will work for the old $30 SERO plans.

McInnis03 I did not purchase the Treo Pro at Best Buy. I'm simply that good..hehe. Meaning I called directly to retentions told them I was going to cancel my lines. They said why? I said I want an Iphone, unless Sprint can give me the Treo Pro cheap. He offered me $100 off the $299 new customer price. Of course I also got the $100 rebate. So boom, $99. Oh, I also got a $20 credit to my bill and the Treo Pro the Sat. before it was released. :-)

If I can't extend my $30 like most others have been doing, I'm going to be pissed to no end.
McInnis 03
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looks like if I call in and do it over the phone I'll be able to take care of renewing.

Now I just have to figure out if I want to get a 755p (an older proven phone) or a Treo Pro (not so sure about the keyboard and windows mobile.

Going from a 700p is probably influencing me as it's done well for me for 2 years minus the typical 700p bugs (resets, stalling, etc).

I'm pretty sure I want the Curve 8330, but am not sure I have had the successes in the past with reps to get my SERO Power Vision plan changed to a SERO Voice Only with BIS Services.

The process I'm referring to above...

Revision 03 - SERO 500 Voice Only + Free BES/BIS/PAM Pack Tutorial

This revision makes Picture Mail a necessity seeing that it is now part of the 4.5 OS upgrade provided by Sprint and therefore you should have it as an add-on your account. A notes section has also been added with beneficial information from contributing 'experts' of this thread.

This is meant for users who are currently on a SERO 500 or SERO 1250 plan. Some features of this tutorial may also be used for other types of plans as well, I currently no longer have SERO and use the Free BIS code.

Tutorial:

1. Go ahead and change your device on your line to the BlackBerry if you have not already done so. Yes, most features will not work for the moment but we will get this fixed shortly.
2. Call Sprint Employee Services, 1-866-250-2221, and ask the representative to switch you over to the "original" $30 SERO voice only plan with the $30 BlackBerry BIS add-on. Mention that you were transferred over because other reps always think you are an employee because of your plan. They will say "I understand" and then process your request. They will try to switch you over or inform you of the newer $59.99 SERO plan, stop them mid sentence and say no I want the original one which is one penny more but separates the plan from the BIS pack. If the rep ask why you would rather pay $0.01 more say that you want the option to be able to remove the BB pack whenever you feel therefore reducing your monthly price during months when you can't afford to pay $60. This is extremely important for you to get right because if you do not then you will be stuck paying $59.99. Verify with the rep which plan you are on before ending the call!
3. At this point the Sprint Employee Services rep will switch you over (usually with no problem) to the SERO 500 Voice Only plan and add-on the BlackBerry pack which cost $30. Do not worry about trying to get the pack changed at this point because you want to play it smooth. Thank them and end the call.
4. Now you have a working BlackBerry on an original SERO ($30+$30) plan which will now cost you $60. We need to have the $30 pack removed and the $0 pack put on to complete the process. Wait about 10 to 15 minutes for Sprints online system to update and then log-on to your Sprint.com account and remove the $30 BlackBerry pack as this will make it much easier to have a rep add on the free code if they at first don't have to remove a paying code. (Found this out while working on a few friends accounts!)
5. Call *2 or better yet call, 1-888-211-4727, from another device and enter the automated prompt system. [[[DO NOT CALL Employee Services or Account Services!!!]]] At the prompt, enter your ten digit number (if it ask), then when it ask what you want to do just press 3, then press 0. This will take you directly into que for the next available representative.
6. When you have the normal customer service rep on the phone explain to them that you were informed by a Blackberry representative that you are supposed to be receiving your plan packages, including BlackBerry service, at a total price of $30 and that they are going to have your plan provisioned to use the BlackBerry service courtesy of a special offer meant for SERO customers. Then say that the representative could not complete the request because of the plan you are on and transferred you to this department but they provided you with the necessary information to assist the representative. At that point say that the representative gave you a combination code and said it would assist the normal rep in a system called Ensemble. They will then ask you for the code which is PDSBUNL0 (make sure you say to them P as in Pam, D as in Dog, S as in Sally, B as in Boy, U as in Unicorn, N as in Nancy, L as in Larry, and the number zero, as this will decrease the chance of being denied because of the wrong code being entered into the system by the rep). Then say to them that the BB rep told you to note that the code may be in the expired section (this will help the rep tremendously).
7. Now the rep should be able to locate it within one to two minutes and will be able to add it to your plan and you should have already removed the $30 pack from earlier so they should have absolutely no problem. So now you have a $30 SERO plan plus a $0 Sprint BlackBerry Vision Pack. Thank the rep and end the call. You don't want to look suspicious and ask for text and pic mail to be added with the same rep because that will be the whole reason why you didn't go with the $30 pack.
8. Now call *2 or 1-888-211-4727 again and enter ten digit number, press 3, press 0 sequence again. With the next rep you are going to have them add the $7.50 text messaging and the $0 picture mail pack. So what you want to say now is that you spoke with BlackBerry support and they provided you with information regarding your customized plan. Mention that the rep provided you with the additional information necessary but could not add it because of your type of plan. At this point say that the BB rep gave you a combination code and said the rep would know what to do with it in a program called Ensemble. The rep will then ask you what you are trying to add and say the BB rep said it would give you text messaging and picture mail. The rep will then ask for the codes which are SMS750UNL for the $7.50 unlimited text messaging and PICPACK0 for the free picture mail. Once the rep completes this process thank them and hang up.
9. You are now complete. You should now have a: $30 SERO Voice Only plan, $7.50 unlimited text messaging, $0 Sprint BlackBerry Vision Pack, and $0 PCS Picture Mail on your account. You can verify on Sprint.com but please give it at least 3 hours to fully update before calling to correct anything. And please make sure that you wait it out before calling in just because it takes the system a while sometimes.

Tid-Bits Section:

* Do not fret if reps leave notes on your account. They will start to move further down out of view the more you call. Also keep in mind that many reps do not read previous notes that are left and just try to resolve the issue in one call.

* With methods listed above your mileage may vary and many users have experienced more success with using eChat/eCare.

* If you find a rep that is very generous and willing to do quite a few things for your account, then stick with that rep to reduce the amount of steps required and make the process smoother for yourself.

* As the popularity of this tutorial and thread increases daily, the risk of Sprint canceling this add-on for use increases. If this happens you will be able to find other methods on this site that are 'user hacks' which try to accomplish the same tasks as BIS.

* PAM is included with this free BIS add-on which is technically only supposed to be used for employees. For those of you that take advantage of this PAM feature your speeds will vary based on the BlackBerry device that you are using. For example the Curve's speeds are capped due to the dated EVDO limitations of the device, not the Sprint network.

* ***Very Important*** All add-ons usually carry over perfectly fine when steps are done correctly and should not drop off unless a representative removes them. For those that have unlimited text messaging and/or unlimited incoming minutes as included (no price) be very careful to make sure that the reps (or system) do not remove either of those codes because you will not get them back once the changes are saved to the system.

After doing some more Pre research, it looks like about 90% chance Sprint makes you change to an "everything" plan (this only makes business sense) so the prices I posted at the top of page 20 (EverythingPlus Employee Pricing) will be your best Pre Deal.

That is dumb. You would be be pay Sprint more money if you did that, so why wouldn't they allow it? They can do it.

Also never heard of a SERO family plan :-)
