Ryan Hall has the best coverage of these severe weather events. Covers many live feeds, explains things well, and sticks to the weather.

County Commissioner of Lee County on NBC right now. People in their attics calling begging to be rescued. Telling them the wind has to die down first, so good luck. Shoulda evacuated.

Always keep an axe in your attic.

Have to be strong enough to wield an axe over your head.

Maybe make it code to have roof access through the attic, point forward.

Hate to be harsh, but your safety plan should not include confining one to an inescapable place.

Also agree regarding the axe. Working an axe opposite of gravity is not going to wield a great result, so to speak.

A stormchaser just registered a 937mb pressure, which is lower than the previous 940mb by the Air Force Reconnaissance Hurricane Hunters

And all of it will be blamed on DeSantis by the media, FEMA, Biden, and the rest.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

pride? hubris? stupidity?

when we lived in Friendswood in the early 80s before moving to Georgetown, my dad had a full hurricane prep kit at the ready. Pre-cut boards for windows, evac kit with food/water, copies of key paperwork, emergency supplies and tools. Took up a lot of room in the garage, but being only 13 feet above sea level, he was taking no chances with 5 kids for when he decided to get out of dodge.

Interviewers already started with this commissioner:

"So their lives are in danger and no one is helping them?"

"No, it's too dangerous for rescue personnel at this time."

"Don't you fear loss of life?"

"Of course, which is why we told everyone to evacuate "

Reports of significant structure damage. Curious as well, just looking at the street maps view and a lot of those houses sit on the ground.

Depends on what they are used to. They also fear their place being ransacked if gone too long. As long as you don't think your place will actually flood to the roof some natives have built up confidence. There are even cars driving on the street in the landfall views seeing on TV.

I lived in Fort Myers during hurricane Irma. Irma was a cat 3 that made landfall in Marco, and did minimal damage to Fort Myers, relatively speaking. People probably thought Ian would be the same, but it's going to be way worse.

I'm getting text updates from my friends that are still there, sounds terrifying. Someone told me the Sanibel lighthouse washed away, but I have no way to confirm.

Is it gonna be a dud ? Looks like a normal hurricane with some slight storm surge.. sure aren't seeing 18 ft anywhere as the weather channel is saying …. More 2-3 ft max.. that's normal I would think

Weather channel is embellishing things again..

Well just watched some of these videos …. Looks a little more serious..

It is literally just hovering under being a Cat5. I wouldn't say they're embellishing all that much.
