If a hurricane hunter says something was "not fun," that means "holy ****ing **** how are we still alive" to everyone else.
Really possible this is a Cat 5, but I'm not sure we are going to get hunter data to confirm it (could be wrong). I could see this being upgraded after the fact. It is possible that NHC realizes it is or is going to be cat 5, but they don't want to create a last minute panic over what amounts to a 5-10 mph wind difference. Bottom line seems to be this is going to suck, last night strengthening was a worst case scenario. They need a miracle today.

I don't know that I would want to intentionally be at ground zero for this one.
East gulf only has sparse oil & gas. Most of it is Texas to Mississippi.

Very eye opening. The biggest change to the NHC forecast from early yesterday was the storm surge max. Very problematic for those who made decisions based off the original figure. NHC should probably put out a probability chart with the various scenarios, but that might be too confusing for public intake.
