Davis & Main are trading time for money. Irene doesn't have much time. Jimmy is trying to convince her to take the money before she runs out of time. Yes, he will benefit, but that money won't do Irene any good when she is dead.
Plus, Jimmy is pretty presumptuous that she will settle. It could be something happens to delay it.
Agree - something could torpedo it. Kim doing something to "rectify" it could move two plot lines along - Jimmy would become more, or irreparably, estranged from Kim as a result and due to not getting his million bucks be forced to work with criminal elements more. If he gets a million would he need to get into the drug game more heavily?
Re; Kim - writers definitely 100% tried to show us how exhaustion is the cause of the wreck, could be a diversion but I doubt it. Yes, we do feel we need to "get rid of" Kim during BCS as we don't see her in Breaking Bad, but hopefully cancer isn't the way. I sense burnout and moving back home, getting out of the law game, just getting too disgusted with Jimmy and separating all connections, etc as more likely than death or cancer. I am thinking more and more that they will do multiple episodes if not a full season in Omaha, and if so maybe there is a random Kim meeting and reconciliation - before snapping out of it and remembering these writers don't give people who make bad choices happy endings.
Jimmy's plot line makes sense to me - they are moving him along to where the character needs to go. Same for Kim and the Kim/Jimmy relationship. But Chuck - that still surprises me. He's been in a coma, bashed his head, been publicly embarrassed, but the character just keeps coming back and getting into new messes that are frustrating to watch. Interesting character, well acted, but hard to watch. The actions with Howard last night make me think they could do a whole season before BB and it could be heavy Chuck/Howard - and that scares me.
