How long do you want to ignore this user?
Those of you expecting some kind of weird trick or twist by the writers, such as Gene is really Saul/Jimmy before BB are way off base. Gilligan never really did that in Breaking Bad, and he doesn't really do that in Better Call Saul. The story itself is full of suspense and unexpected turns, but it never really tricks you or pulls ridiculous stunts from left field. This series is about telling an interesting story, not tricking the viewer.

I call Jimmy Jimmy and Saul Saul.
This. I have a pretty clear break in my mind. I think BCS is more enjoyable if you watch it for its own merit and don't try to reference every single moment to BB.

Yeah, I did that on purpose. There is a huge blurry line between Jimmy and Saul. In my opinion, he is more Saul than Jimmy for the most part, he's just getting better at it.

He is Jimmy until he changes the name. Jimmy has always been Saul.

That, and it would make this thread about half as long.

As someone who never watched BB, I find it interesting that ya'll default name for Jimmy is Saul. In my mind, that transformation has not happened yet.
I haven't read this whole thread or your comments so I'll ask here on the off chance you may answer..

As someone who has not watched BB, but watching BCS, what is your opinion of the show so far? Are you going to wait for BCS to be over to watch BB or do you plan to watch it soon? Curious.

I find that dynamic kinda interesting. People watching this show who are watching it free and clear of knowledge of the BB universe.

the last three episode titles for this season sound really ominous.....spoiler alert

Slip
Fall
Lantern

given what we "know" or kind of assume about Chuck not being around in BB timeframe

note there are 5 episodes left, just those last three seem related and ominous.

Chuck slips and falls, knocking over the lantern sitting on the newspapers, burning his house down.

And that happens over 3 episodes to the delight of those who have so much trouble with the pacing of the show.

This.

Come to think of it, I can't think of a single plot twist in all of Breaking Bad. When the story is that good, you don't need to pull tricks like that.

Closest thing I can think of is the mysterious opening shots of the teddy bear in Season 2, but that's not really a twist, just mysterious.

Edit: I suppose BB S5 spoilers: revealing Walt poisoned Brock is a bit of a twist. I remember calling that fairly early on and getting ridiculed for that theory.

Ummm what???? I can list 5 off he top of my head. Well not tricks but definitely twists or shocking deaths.

1. Walt running over the 2 dealers
2. Jesse killing gale
3. Walt letting Jane die
4. The way Gus died
5. Todd murders the kid
6. Walk kills Mike
7. The way the ricin was finally used.
8. Walt not killing the couple at the end the former partners
9. Blowing up Tuco in his office

Those were all pretty shocking at the time.

I'm not expecting anything crazy for Jimmy to Saul and don't think the flash forwards are anything but what they appear. But chuck may go in a bad way. Would not surprise me in the least. He may be done anyway from HHM and estranged from his brother. But I still think he dies ironically from something related to his mental illness.

Those are all great and shocking moments, but not really plot twists. Like say,"flashbacks" were actually flash-forwards in LOST, etc. I guess I mean when they trick the viewer.

The great thing about Breaking Bad (and BCS) is that every shocking development is actually laid out fairly early on, we just don't catch the clues the first time. That's why rewatching BB is so rewarding.

Ie. The Gus and Hector rivalry which had simmered for over 2 seasons, and Walt exploited that perfectly.

Maybe Chuck becomes incapable of taking care of himself and he ends up in the same care facility as Hector Salamanca.

Lantern? Something tells me after seeing Mike's photos, a rather large conflagration consumes Chuckie and his abode.

I don't know. 737 Down Over ABQ was pretty dead on.

To be fair, no one caught it til after.

But they said on the Better Call Saul Podcast that there is no code.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
i think its dead on, just not in the sense chuck is gonna have a slip, fall, lantern accident that tosses him into custodial care (though i do still think the lantern on a stack of newspapers may be evidence in a competency hearing, proof he's a "danger to himself or others" thats often a focus of such things). but i see the slip and fall being more about jimmy and/or mike trending further into the worlds where we know they'll be circa BB

then again, gene did a spill at the omaha cinnabon..........

I gotcha. I just think that they have mentioned the lantern on the papers too many times for it to not be connected

After "Frings Back" was discovered last season, it wouldn't surprise me if the episode titles were a misdirection. They don't mislead during the show, but episode titles are probably fair game for a bit of trolling.
TriumphForks
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would agree the episode titles are purposeful misdirection in this case. Gilligan admitted he underestimated his viewers with the Frings Back Easter egg from last season. No way he does something this obvious.
Liquid Wrench
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with you. I'm also trying to avoid any future clues or conclusion jumping, so my opinion is just based on where we are right now in the show.

Hamlin has to be careful. Remember, if Chuck cashes out, the whole firm will go under (according to Jimmy). That's why the firm was sending those measly 26k checks to Jimmy c/o Chuck in the first season. This makes me think that it is better for Hamlin if it is established that Chuck is crazy and he gets committed. Hamlin WANTED Jimmy to commit Chuck the first time they went to the hospital, and Jimmy was suspicious of Hamlin's motives. He said something like, "Of course you want him committed. Then he can't cash out of the firm." It would work out nicely for all involved if Chuck was sent to the looney bin. I don't expect much resistance from Hamlin.
