I was just joking with a bs theory of my own. I think Jimmy will build up the Saul persona with his commercials and then just roll with it when he's cleared to practice again. He'll probably start hooking up with Mike more, since he's determined to pay his share of the rent, which will help set up Saul's client base.

Anyway, this may have been the best episode of the series. Had a good mix of artsy-ness, like the little video of the drug truck getting unloaded, but it fed directly into a scene that helped advance the plot rather than just taking up air time for the sake of being cool. Pretty much the perfect mix of style and plot movement tonight.

So this was the episode that begins to set the main course for the remainder of the series, however long that is.

Chuck is forcing himself past his illness and will come after Jimmy Head on.

Saul Goodman starts to form.

Gus begins work on the space that becomes central to his distribution in part because he sees the threat from Hector, while Hector appears to be making the wrong enemies. And whatever Nacho does likely spells his demise.

Lydia will begin the distribution.

Mike had already started down his path.

Things are about to kick up a notch.

Ha ha, no. No.

They've been slowly introducing and developing different characters and subplots. At some point, those disparate elements have to start coming together.

Like I said before, pretty perfect.

So what happens to nacho? Murdered by tuco?
I'm pretty sure Nacho is still alive when we first meet Saul in Breaking Bad.

When Saul gets kidnapped by Walt & Jesse and taken out to the desert, Saul at first thinks they're Mexican enforcers sent by one of the bad guys he deals with.

He says something like "It wasn't me, it was Ignacio."

Nacho's real name is Ignacio, so I've always assumed he was talking about the guy we know as Nacho. I suppose it's possible that Nacho/Ignacio was already dead by that point, but there's no way to know for sure.

On another note, when it's starting to click that Walt & Jesse aren't Mexican drug cartel enforcers, he says "Lalo didn't send you?"

So at some point prior to Breaking Bad, I think we're going to meet another person wrapped up in the Nacho/Tuco/Hector/Gus group named Lalo.

Mike was in it. With his daughter in law at the support group meeting. Has to build a playground.

As the camera panned around the therapy circle, the last guy before they got to Mike was an old gray haired guy. He reminded me of the dog therapist from Down and Out in Beverly Hills. Is this the same guy?

{Edit} Never mind. This actor died in 2012, but I am leaving the clip up.

I can get over the fact that the actors are older even though this is a prequel. The thing that distracts me is the weight gain/loss. Huel is like 100 lbs down, Boxcutter and the black guy are like 30 lbs up. Lydia looks older, but she is still hot, and I would take it to pound town and call her Lydia the whole time.

Yeah the gut on the black guy last night caught my attention.

I'm not sure why you think people weight can't change in a series at least a couple of years apart.

I once lost 58 pounds in 4 months....I gained it back within 12 months. Oops.

I agree that people's weight can fluctuate.
I just find it weird that Fring would hire two chubby enforcers who then get into shape while on the job. Also, you can't turn back the hands of time and make actors younger, but they could have easily lost weight to be approximately the same weight as they were in BB.
No big deal. Just replying to the folks who were distracted by the aged actors in a prequel.

He was lower budget then...just getting started...hired who he could get, then told them to get in shape and they did. lol.

As for Huell...definitely could see him packing on the pounds later.

I honestly never even mind the age thing. Just something I don't focus on. I did a mind reset with this show I guess....I just accept the actors for playing those characters at that time in this show now. Their ages are never an issue per se... it isn't pertinent to the plot so I just watch the dialogue, plot, acting, filmmaking, etc.

Heck other shows do flashbacks all the time where they look comically younger - like HIMYM and Friends did with fatsuits, etc. and yeah I know they are sitcoms. But also Mad Men and LOST did it a bunch too. Just never bothered me.

It is what it is. It's called suspension of disbelief (or blocking it out).

I am always amazed that some of y'all can remember this stuff. I catch some of the BB stuff, but nothing like this. I enjoy this thread because it helps me when I miss things, and I have been going back and watching the episodes a second time. I'm sure I'm still missing plenty.

I laughed at the reveal of Saul because it wasn't nearly as dramatic as theorized here, but I liked it. I think Saul will be a big hit for Jimmy and get him lots of business, so he'll just transition him to a lawyer once his suspension is up.

Jimmy will get into some very shady stuff via Mike before his suspension ends though. I expect Jimmy to be neck deep in it before the year is up. The combination of pent up demand for his shady legal services and Saul local fame will be a very nice foundation for his new business.

I also really like Nacho and am looking forward to seeing him try to take out Hector. I hope he is around a while like you said and doesn't get wacked by Tuco.

I thought the little story of Tuco shanking someone was funny, you can just picture Tuco doing that and blowing his short stint in jail.

I had the idea that there might be a time jump now....a montage of sorts of Saul commercials, grinding away for a year until he can practice law again. but as this review points out that might be a problem with the Mike timeline. Does he also just sit out a year until he works for Gus. I doubt that. Perhaps we see Mike make the transition to work for Gus next episode and then have the time jump.

Either way I don't think we are going to see a years worth of episodes of Saul as commercial producer.

I just recall the brilliant time lapse montage in BB of Walt making all that money and stashing it away (Gliding All Over) also mentioned here.

Oh and maybe some have missed this....it hasn't been mentioned...that was Krazy 8 from BB that Nacho was beating up for Hector. Talk about transformation he was meek here and would later be terrifying to Walt/Jesse. I guess Nacho/Tuco/Hector toughened him up over the years. He appeared earlier in BCS too of course delivering a payment to Tuco in Season 2.

Know Your Enemy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I asked if that was Krazy-8 as soon as he appeared on screen. I think it's back a page.

I think we will see a lot of Saul Goodman, not just the commercial producer Saul. And as someone else mentioned I think we see him start to get more involved with Mike and some shady dealings in the next year in order to pay his share f the bills around the office. He doesn't want to disappoint Kim.

I always enjoy Sepinwall's analysis.

I do disagree with this part:

Quote:

Chuck is also at a crossroads. Howard pushes him to look forward, rather than continuing to dwell on his feud with his brother and his failure to get Jimmy disbarred. For the moment, he seems to be mostly focused on learning more about his condition, first holding onto a battery from the infamous tape recorder to remind himself of how real the pain feels, then venturing out to call Dr. Cruz at the hospital.

I took it that Chuck was trying to steel himself against the pain, to force himself to endure it at its worst, to practice feeling the pain as a way to coping with and even learning to live with it.
Bobcat06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I took Chuck's scenes as a way to prove that he's not crazy so that he can vindicate himself against Jimmy's allegations (or in Hamlin's words focus on the past rather than the future)
Stive
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I took it the same way you did and disagree with Sep as well.
Zombie Jon Snow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I wasn't sure which way to take that. All of Chucks scenes were ambiguous really.

I wasn't sure what to make of his conversation with Hamlin either. He seemed disinterested but did say "to new beginnings" at the end of something like that. He was rather despondent though. I almost thought he was going to kill himself after Hamlin left.

I think it is intentionally vague here and could go either way. Seeking help and getting better or completely losing it and being committed or killed.

It was mentioned earlier and I noticed it right away
Walt's first kill!
Closed captioning mentions his name as Domino, not Krazy - 8. Maybe we'll see him do a name change as well. Nice touch - he was wearing the furniture store shirt - remember he told Walt that he grew up in his family furniture store and they even sang the jungle.

Agreed. I'm loving it and I was one who was lamenting the slow pace last season.

Not any more. This is gold.

I could see the Krazy 8 transormation working out kind of like this.

Nacho debilitates Hector.
Krazy 8 figures out it was Nacho, and he alrrady has it out for Nacho.
Tuco comes back, and Krazy 8 goes over Nacho's head and tells Tuco. Tuco goes off and wants to kill Nacho, but Krazy 8, having now fully turned to the darkside, requesta that he be allowed the pleasure of killin Nacho. Tuco replaces Nacho with Krazy 8.

Although, I am not sure Krazy 8 was at the position that Nacho is. Krazy 8 seemed to be at a lower level in BB.

I think Chuck's intent with the battery and city walk is exposure therapy. It's a classic approach to dealing with an anxiety disorder like his - you start exposing yourself to what causes the intense fear and anxiousness until it's no longer an issue for you.

HCG diet (hormone injection too). It works wonders. 600 calorie diet.

you gotta be really careful coming off it though or the weight goes right back on. I kept it off mostly the first time for 4-5 years. Then I went way up again (stress) and then when I lost it again and stopped I gained it back quick.

But it works.

Actually, during the show I had a paranoid thought that 91_Aggie was with production and putting out a trial balloon to gauge reaction to the scenario.
