While I believe that the story of the lady's missing husband simply served as motivation for Mike to track down the buried body of the Good Samaritan, it doesn't seem completely ridiculous that her husband was the Good Samaritan (driving to go out for a hike, stopped to help the truck driver, and then was murdered by Hector's men, and buried under Nacho's direction).
Didn't she tell Mike how long it had been since her husband disappeared? I can't find anywhere to review that episode, but I feel like it was a while and wouldn't fit with Mike's truck robbery unless they've jumped time without mentioning it to the audience. I guess we really don't know for sure how long it's been since Mike arrived in ABQ and just happened to hook up with the streetwise veterinarian.

Just watched it tonight and logged on to check the discussion....OMG guys the body was the Good Samaritan's. That was not the part of the episode I expected to be up for debate.
Good episode other than the community service cop scene. I really don't buy that he would be that likely to give in with a threat of being sued.

Yeah, God forbid people use this thread for pointless discussions.
It was a dead give away that it was the Good Samaritan bc it was the same billboard Mike hid behind to pull off the truck heist. The Salamanca guys killed the Good Samaritan on the spot and took him out into the desert.
Even after a few months the hand would look much worse, but, it's tv and all
It did seem to be in pretty good shape. But a dry desert can mummify a body fairly quickly vs it turning into the usual mess.
Here's the unbelievable part... good Samaritan gets killed by drug criminals and they bury him with a gold ring still on his finger.

The point of showing the wedding ring was for Mike's conscience. This was a man with a wife, presumably a family, that will now receive some closure.
Also, he doesn't find the body with a metal detector unless the body has a ring on it.

how do metal detectors work? I think there's a lot of iron or copper in the desert in NM, which is why it has that reddish hue from rust. ... would the detector find a small buried gold ring and not detect all other metal ores such as iron in the sand/rocks?
I think if the iron has oxidized, it will read out on a metal detector as a mineral instead of a metal. The detector can be set to not pick that up.

I wold suspect that drivers who have to go thru customs on a regular basis are vetted for their caution and discretion and are therefore well compensated.
