How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you have read the books, please stop posting info on this thread. There is going to be a point where you are going to let something slip.

Lets leave this thread to those of us who haven't gotten to the books as of yet.

i don't see any spoilers on this thread...some guesses (which no book-readers have confirmed) and some rehashing of events in the two episodes but no giveaways

I just saw the ending of episode 2. It seems to be a ripoff of the end of one of The Pillars of the Earth episodes. Also, the killing of the wrong dog seemed to be stupid. Why would a king bother himself with sentencing a dog?

Because the queen wanted something to die for this. She wanted the wolf that bit her so dead but that dog wasn't there.

As usual this thread is evolving into a Texags extraordinaire.

Its just a dog, and at that, only a pet and not an actual useful hunting dog or anything. The only people that gave a damn about them were the Starks. Frankly, one of them already bit his son, they arent yet full grown, and they are wild animals. We are applying too much modern cute dog into his circumstances.

There were some differences in the characters actions in the books also.

The queen was saying that all the wolves needed to die. Arya's ran away, otherwise it would have been on the chopping block first.

Dire wolf protector pets...I don't know of many dogs that will fight an assassin and crush their throat.

In the book the queen actually wanted the pelt as well, so Ned stark did it himself because:

1. The wolf was dearly loved by Sansa and he did not want someone else butchering it.

2. Thats just how the north is, whoever passes the sentence shall swing the sword.

3. He put the wolf on a horse and sent it north so the Queen could not defile the wolf anymore.

The royal ***** wanted Arya's wolf slain for attacking her prince *****. Since Arya's was not at hand, Lady's stood in her stead.

And it's not just a dog, it's a direwolf. They're puppies now and not very large but will get larger. In the book I believe they're described as being capable of growing larger than a pony/horse. Direwolves in the Westeros universe are something to be feared greatly (probably the bigger than a horse thing), thus why the king 'bothered' with it.

"Just like dogs" is tarded at best and written from ignorance or silliness. Don't post nonsense. There's a lot of interest here. Dire wolves especially in this series are badasses.
JJxvi
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"Just dogs" was meant to imply that other characters dont give a damn about them beyond maybe being cautious or afraid of them. It was meant to dispel any notion that some of the other characters would view killing one of them as a bad thing or as "harming someones sweet pet". Later on in the post I even go into that they were basically wild animals wandering around. My point was that the King and other characters wouldnt think twice about killing one of these. Theon was practically salivating at the chance to slice one open when they found them.

This isn't really a spoiler, but no one takes the dire wolves lightly. This hasn't been portrayed in the series yet, but they are creatures of legend not seen south of the Wall. Therefore, EVERYONE is wary of dire wolves. They are not remotely like dogs. Dogs are terrified of them.
JJxvi
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No they are exactly like dogs in every way. I clearly said it and meant it that way so it must be true.

so if dire wolves are not like dogs does that mean it would be okay to fight them? Are there any medieval sports in this series, or would that be a spoiler too?
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They have typical medieval competitions. In episode one when jaime mentions that they'll probably have a tournament to honor ned's appointment, he's referring to stuff like jousting, archery, etc which we'll likely see in the next episode or two
Madmarttigan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Dumme those are in no way spoilers lol. Those were things they left out but have already been said or talked about in the book up to this point. Someone did not understand why Ned did what he did, so I explained.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
How do you guys know what is and is not going to be explained?

Part of the mystery and excitement of the book is learning why things are the way they are. I don't think it's a good idea for some of you to decide what may or may not be a spoiler two episodes in.

Just my opinion.
Madmarttigan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sigh* Me explaining why Ned stark killed a wolf himself has nothing to do with anything... I'm not deciding for myself it isn't a spoiler. It just isn't no matter how anal anyone wants to be.

I wasn't talking about your post.

Though part of what you posted could possibly be a spoiler.

episode 3 tonight

should be good, most of the expository stuff is out of the way. for the non-readers, there'll be some characters introduced in this episode that are very entertaining

For some reason I always imagined varys to be a creepy looking perv lol....

Liked the episode as always, glad they had a lot of Arya time, she is one of my favorite characters.
