How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've read the books and thought it was a good first episode. I'll continue watching.

Wasn't expecting it to be nearly as good as it was. I'm very excited.

I've never read any of the books, I've read zero spoilers, all I've done is watch the first episode. And I'll bet right now that kid isn't dead.

Coma, the wolf pup did something, etc.

I'm not saying the boy lives or dies, but for those not familiar with the series let me just prepare you and say that no character is safe in this show.

Do not NOT latch onto a favorite character?

MaroonStain,

Not saying that at all.

One of the beautiful things of this story is the complete mindf*** it puts you through. You don't want to miss out on that.

for the dany/drago scene - there seemed to be much more of a conversion in the book vs. the forcible "mounting" in the show. im not that far into book 1, but i was anticipating the mood swing to have been more significant....

I've read the series up to Dance With Dragons.

I was trying to convey the fact that a viewer or reader should not latch onto any certain character.

My thought and my typing did not transfer well.

I will watch Episode 1 today...

I've watched the episode twice now and really like it. I feel it's not as good as the book though, as I'm currently re-reading the book and watching the show kind of in parallel (trying to read all the books over again before Dance with Dragons) and just started GoT.

The books give you a lot more character depth but I noticed the show gives you several scenes the book does not.

And just echoing the 'don't get attached' thing. Characters don't die left and right but some of them are shocking and abrupt. That's one thing I really like about Martin's writing.

Show is good enough to give me chills at times.

What killed the Dire Wolf?

it looked like they pulled an antler out of it - it must have gotten tangled up with the reindeer looking thing.

Is there a topic for those of us that read the book? There's a lot that's made explicitly clear in the book that wasn't in the show, such as the stag antler and the character's reactions to the omen (though Eddard puts no stock in them).

I just don't know how much us book readers can say lol.

Just watched the pilot. Liked it, didn't love it. Too busy for me. Taking me to a different time and introducing 500 characters in an hour is a bit much. But, I'm intrigued to keep watching.

I think the idea is to just get it over with and then move from there.

Hell, I've read the books many years ago and I was having a problem keeping up with who was who.

I watched it with some friends who werent familiar with the series and they seemed to enjoy it. They thought it was very Spartacus-y...which bodes well for the male crowd but i am not sure about the female.

I was dissapointed about the feel of the show. I was excited to see these people come to life and see where they lived but it felt different.

I am interested to see where it goes from here.

any thoughts?

as a reader, i thought this was a much more faithful episode, and the pacing was a lot better.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
good episode...storylines that progressed were expected, but solid.

The wolf mauling the hired murderer of Bran was awesome.

Dunno what to think of the Queen. She is in the wrong ****ing her brother, but she shows a soft side talking of personal grief with Ned's wife...then acts like the ultimate ***** when deciding the fate of the "fight" with her Son and Arya(sp?)...

the son is a little coward piece of ****...exactly how you'd expect a young'n who's never had to work for anything but knows he's the heir to the highest title in the "land."

***random thought of the night***-did anyone else think Dany and the slave had really great (lesbian) chemistry when she was helping Dany 'fix' her situation with the warriorbeast? I was half expecting a full on lesbian scene to break out...but after watching that scene...if that slave girl ever shows back up again, I'd full on expect it. I get the reason she was there, to share her thoughts as a ***** to help Dany realize how to treat a man, but I wonder if that's setting up something in the future.

Since I haven't read the books, I probably read too much into that, but there was serious lesbo chemistry in that scene.

I agree with Sepinwall's review in that, 2 eps in...we have become familiar with the large number of characters, and now it's time to push the storylines forward that are set up at a quicker pace.
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
JP - it's funny that you mention the "lesbian chemistry". dany feels no real connection to doreah (that's the slave girl) in the books, she just wanted to learn how to please drogo better. i was seriously expecting HBO to take advantage of the opportunity to have these two hot chicks get it on, it pleasantly surprised me to see that they stayed faithful to the books
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree that there maybe shouldn't have been chemistry...and i figured there wouldn't have been in the books since it was clearly a scene about a more "noble" girl seeking advice of a "lesser" ***** to please the man...but just the way it was presented was almost a pure tease on it, and sometimes the screen shows chemistry when it's not intended...which goes back to why I segmented that "random thought"
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i wouldn't've minded a little fan-service, tbh

the chick playing the slave girl was effing hot

How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's a bit better explained in the books. Daenarys was given three hand-selected girls as wedding gifts: one to teach her how to ride a horse well, one to teach her how to speak Dothraki, and one to teach her 'the womanly arts of love'.
