Since leaving the Obama Administration, Gates has been elected President of the Boy Scouts of America, served as Chancellor of the College of William & Mary, and served as a member on several corporate boards.
I miss Dr. Gates, glad I was a student during his brief tenure

Many years ago, during his tenure as President of the University, the RV's were accused of pointing their weapons while at drill at a specific group whom I believe were at the Lawerence Sullivan Ross Statue. From what I recal, the RV's were immediately suspended prior to an investigation into the alleged event. Although not an RV, but as a fellow classmate and outfit buddy of an RV, I was and am aware of the honor of that unit. I emailed Dr. Gates at the time, expressing my dissatisfaction as a former cadet and student that the RV's were treated this way, basically guilty prior to being found innocent. He emailed me back personally, and let me know this rush to judgement was stopped. There was no merit to the charges, the RV's were high porting their weapons. I have never forgotten that personal response from him, I just wish I had printed out the email. Thank you Dr. Gates, for your long service to our country, and University. A-1, ' 80.
