You were the General Rudder of our generation. He brought this school out of the dark ages and saved it and you brought this school into the 21st century and made it into a better version of itself. I only hope that one day we can honor you as we have honored Gen. Rudder. I'd be proud for my daughter to one day live in Gates Hall or attend class in the Gates Building.
My husband, brother and many of our close friends serve in the US Armed Forces, I pray for them daily and as you begin your new role as their leader, I pray for you now too. Continue to be a man of integrity, determination and filled with the Aggie Spirit and our military will be in good hands.

It was an honor sharing the campus with you Dr. Gates. About two days before the Sec. of Defense talk came out I was telling my wife (a Red Raider) about how cool it was going to be in 20 years to tell my kids that I was on campus during the Gates years. I couldn't be prouder to have the picture and diploma to prove it. Your appointment only adds to that. We're proud of your service to A&M and the nation. The generations will remember your name.
