Yes.
Absolutely. It ain't my money, first of all; 2nd of all, the Astros should be able to afford it; 3rd of all, you have to make bold moves to be in position to win the World Series. We have a historic offense (struggling a bit right now) with contributions from many who are having CAREER years. Can't count on that in perpetuity. The best chance to win a World Series this franchise has ever had is now. I'm worried that the front office pissed it away at the deadline.
Unless the Tigers desperately want to shed that contract, they have all the leverage right now though. I only think there's a 25% chance we get Verlander. That may be optimistic too.

Dallas Keuchel - Final year of Arbitration in 2018, UFA scheduled for 2019 unless you get him signed LT this next year. Making 9 mil this year
George Springer - Arbitration eligible through end of 2020. UFA in 2021. Making 3.9 mil this year
Altuve - bought out his arbitration early. Signed through 2019, UFA in 2020. Making 4.5 mil this year
Correa - arbitration eligible for 2019. UFA in 2022. Making 535k this year
McCullers Jr - same as Correa. UFA in 2022. Making 548k this year
Bregman - arb eligible for 2020. UFA in 2023. Making 539.4K this year

The Astros are a big market team and should have a big market payroll. Their payroll is still laughably low compared to the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox for example. The only reason revenue might not be as high as it should is because they've been **** for so long.
That, and their lack of visibility due to a horrible decisions on broadcast rights.
