what was the stat that Kalas (or Blum) said tonight in the 1st inning regarding Fiers? He's allowing 41% of batters to reach base. Did I mishear what he said?

I think it is that he's pitching with a runner on 41% of the time.

Yes, world beater Fiers gets YET ANOTHER win, #2 on the season, out of 10 games pitched, with a grand total of 2 quality starts and a 5 ERA (the highest among the starters). He's definitely earning his $3.5 million dollar salary, while Lance McCullers, who has a 6-1 record with a 2.5 ERA is getting paid less than $550k. That is just criminal.
McCullers is only 23, his big payday is on its way if he keeps it up. I am ok with Fiers at $3.5m for now, that is about market value for someone of his level. You need someone to eat innings and right now he is the best option. I seriously doubt he will be in the rotation come July/August.

Having to start Fiers in in the playoffs could very well be the difference between ending this season in the ALCS and the WS. Fiers is a f'ing bum and he is still getting credit for that no hitter from 2 years ago

No shlt.

He was out of the rotation as of last Friday and was put back in only due to an injury.

And Fiers won't sniff a start in the playoffs. A #4/5 pitcher doesn't start playoff games.

It's a discussion board and an Astros thread, moron. Nobody is butthurt, and if they keep Fiers, it will not affect my life in any way. Sorry that you're too stupid to comprehend that.

If our starting pitchers keep rotating through DL stints then he probably will be...

Oh look it's another one of my stalkers following me around from Rivalries and adding nothing of value to a legitimate Astros thread. How's that whole being able to form a complete and coherent sentence coming along? I'm sure you'll get it right one of these days fella.

Hi Puddy!

Going to add anything of value to this thread or continue to be a dumbass? I'm guessing since you have trouble posting legible sentences that it's going to be the latter.

Am I the only one who thinks the Astros are mostly trying to make the best use of the new 10 day DL with all of the new fragile (Morton) and young (Musgrove) arms? All while seeing what some of these AAA guys are made of?

With an 11 game lead I have no problem with them doing just that.

So Puddy. Shows up on page 9 of a thread we've been posting on for weeks (20+ me alone) and immediately assumes everything's about him. Some of us laugh, he goes postal. Then, he wraps himself in the baby-blanket
of defensiveness and victimhood followed by the tantrums and "attacks".

Just like in the Spurs threads.
(Or seemingly any team that wins 65% or more)

Yawn.....

Not sure about Morton, sounds like his situation actually warranted being shutdown. But I do think Hinch has used the 10 day DL on Keuchel and Musgrove to do exactly what you say. I'd bet we see this happen a decent amount through the summer.

Fun, Astros live and up 4-1, fact: The Stros have an 11-game advantage in the AL West prior to today's game. Since divisional play began in 1969, there have been 20 instances of teams possessing a 7-game divisional lead on May 31. Only two of those teams (the 1969 Cubs and 2014 Giants) failed to win their divisions.

It took an epic collapse and the Miracle Mets to take the Cubs down in '69.

Quote:

The Cubs ultimately lost 17 of the last 25 games of the season, while the Mets went 237 to overtake the Cubs and finish eight games ahead of them. It was one of the most astounding late season collapses in history, with the seventeen-game turnaround being one of the biggest ever. The Cubs finished 9270, while the Mets won the National League East and would go on to win the World Series.

Those were the days. The World Series was played during the day and they put a TV in all the school rooms and we watched the games. And they only took about 2 hours to play because every batter didn't have a dance routine to go through before every pitch.

This team is very good and I too think they're using this new 10 day DL to skip pitchers and it's probably the thing to do. If they maintain a double digit lead on the Rangers and Angels they'll make both those teams sellers rather than buyers at the deadline and have 2 fewer competitors for whatever pitching might be available.

FUN FACT(s):

3 day box score for that Astro series: 40/47/0

Also, by scoring 17 runs today the Astros could have beat the Texans 6 times in their respective season.
