I bought an Xbox One today and plan to put RL on there before too long. I haven't actually picked up the console yet, so I don't know what my gamertag is going to be.

Oooh do you mind linking the VOD? I hadn't heard of this. Johnny and Markydooda have added me though maybe that's where it came from.

I've made way too many trainings lol. It's cool to be known but weird being known for only one thing ya know? Any way glad you like those trainers.

Definitely an interesting idea with the ball! May have to give that a shot.

It starts around the 39 minute mark. Basically it's a challenge using your "air roll aerials" pack. The challenge is that you can't use ballcam. You get extra points for scoring without the ball touching the ground and for double touches off the backboard.

BTW, anyone been watching the World Cup? The production has been really great, and most of the games have been really competitive. Also, Kaydop scored an insane ceiling pinch in his game today. He's the front runner for MVP so far.

I am now.

My son had a friend over and they were looking for a co-op game. Played RL, which we hadn't touched since around when I started this thread. I jumped in. Forgot how thoroughly enjoyable this game was.

In my defense, I spent the past decade and a half focused on surfing. When I finally got a PS4 I was focused on learning to be an average fps player.

Now that I've achieved that worthy life goal, I think I'll be around here a little more--as life permits.

But, yes. I'll be monitoring this thread.

I kept up with the world cup a bit. It was really fun to watch. I also dug around in the badpanda website that they were advertising and thought that was pretty neat too. Their tutorials are solid and I even booked a coaching session for this week so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it's the input I need to reach GC.

Not sure what your skill is, but generally speaking most of us are what I'd guess is an above average skill (gold level). Not many TexAgs RL elites on the XB1. But we always have a good time playing (as opposed to the randoms) so feel free to invite if you want.


Random question for everybody... when your teammates quit in ranked games I know you have the option to quit with no temporary ban penalty, but do you lose rank that way or do you get a free pass because your random teammate was a loser?

Had a guy yesterday literally throw up the forfeit sign immediately after kick-off. We didn't go for it so he bailed. Really!

Happens all the time. I'm tired of randos but am not good enough to stay in gold doubles so i don't want to pull anyone down here. I am typically stuck on the highest silver rank.. Perpetually.

I've been coaching some of the TAMU students lately and I'd be more than happy to make myself available to anyone here. We can do a 1-on-1 coaching session or just post a replay here and I can offer up some critiques. I'm not the best RL player but at champ 3 I may have some insight to offer.

I just want to know who the beginners are--if there are any of you out there?

I can't consistently win playing Pro level exhibition with my now 12-year-old son.

I hope that's not as bad as when I stated playing fps games and was sporting a .04 kd.

Man, i play quite a bit, and i can't get over the gold hill. I'm 50/50 on aerials, and just can't get the feel for mid-air movement. Defense is sound, but i need to spend more time practicing going up for the ball, especially when you have to adjust in the air.

I had never played solo standard, and finally played my 10 matches to get ranked. Had a real good run with randoms, and got placed in platinum 3, div. 4. I was so outclassed, and very quickly fell to gold level again.

I would have killed (haha) for a .04 kd in an fps. Always been garbage at those.

I know AgMrPink is new to the game if he is still around, I posted some tips for him at the bottom of page 22. I imagine more people would lose to pro bots than would admit it.

Have you tried my air roll aerials training pack?
It's great for all levels in learning aerial control.

At gold level, I imagine there are a lot of people trying to do mechanics beyond their capabilities, so you can probably have a lot of successes by committing to some defensive fundamentals such as defending from the back post and hitting the ball of the backboard if your best shot is going to be a weak one.

I'll try those. My biggest problem is that I play quite a bit, but a handful of minutes at a time (with my kids, etc). I only really play one night a week, where i get a few hours in.

It's hard to find time to train, because i want to maximize my game time. I have found that playing at higher levels has forced me to pick up on the speed of the game, and get outside my comfort zone. I probably need to play with people a lot better than me, that won't forfeit after the first goal (or tell everyone to kys and uninstall).

Yeah there is definitely an ideal balance between playing and training. Especially if your time is limited like most people here. What usually works for me is warming up a new/rusty mechanics for 10-20 minutes, then having some points of focus during my games (i.e. "stop clearing the ball directly to the other team" or "make sure I'm rotating out at the right times") I'd be happy to help.

Also still think we should set up some TxAg in-house 3v3s

Being in my 40s and with family I picked my poison. Now I can consistently get above a 1.0--in some games--but I'm garbage at RL.

And y'all look and sound like experts. It took me forever with the fps to just get average. I fear I won't ever get up to speed with y'all--meaning average.

When I graduate in December I'll be working full-time and likely engaged. Last summer when I discovered this game my only thought was "this is the last chance I'll ever have to be really good at a video game" so I went all in. I fully expect to have a fraction of the time I have now to play once I'm done with school, I'm sure you can reinforce that sentiment.

Thankfully we have gotten some inside info that Psyonix is planning a large-scale LAN for college teams this coming semester, so I'll have my one shot to achieve my esports dreams then it's back down to earth.

idk about the rest of you but I don't check here very often and certainly not in time to respond to someone who wants to play. I think the best way to communicate is through discord. I'm pretty sure there's a texags discord but I forgot what it was.

I am still unranked on the Xbox, but on Steam, I'm Silver III in 2s and Gold I or II in 3s. I really enjoy playing with buddies while chatting via Twitch. When y'all get together on the Xbox, are you using headsets to chat with each other? I don't have a headset for the Xbox yet, but I would buy one just for RL in order to be able to chat with teammates in game. It drives me nuts not even being able to do anything other than quick chat (and I don't count the ability to send a custom msg via the on-screen keyboard -- too much of a PITA to use).

So give me the "Explain it Like I'm Five" on this... how does it integrate with the PS4, and what do I need to do to incorporate it into my standard process when I turn my system on? What's the added benefit?

There's no PS4 integration. It's basically just a way to have a TexAgs group of friends separate from your PS4 friends list. It's a 3rd party platform for group chats (text and audio.) If you get the phone app you can get notified when someone posts a message, making it easier to coordinate games than TexAgs.

Theoretically you can use it to set up voice chat between steam and PS4 (or XBox) players, but I haven't experimented with cross-platform parties in Rocket League so I don't know if thats necessary/useful.

Halibut is right, it is very helpful when setting up cross platform private matches. If you are playing with only players on ps4 then there is little to no benefit. I think the chat delay is slightly less than the ps4 chat but it is hardly noticeable.

I think the point of diminishing returns for me in this game is around 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Anything after that and my skill is on the decline. Last night well after midnight and after 3+ hours the wheels came off completely. Didn't help that the jackasses we were playing in doubles were pretty good players and boy did they LOVE to text chat!

I'm not sure how I'm suppose to "sell the game" cause it's digital, but that was the advice given!
