Canadian numbers, and IMF forecasts are pretty much garbage at this point.

We Americans import > $400B a year in goods from China. We export > $100B a year in goods and services to China. We made our bed with China as a key U.S. trading partner 20 years ago.

Depends on what wildlife you are examining within those forest. If talking of Cervidae (deer, elk, moose) the thick timber or forest make for good cover but poor habitat because of the lack of forbe and browse production due to lack of sunlight reaching the ground.
Cervidae prefer edge habitat and meadows because it produces much more non seasonal food.
If you are talking some species of birds and tree dwelling mammals….yes, more trees equals more habitat for them naturally.

We? The Democrat Party? I know you're allied with North Korea, but Trump won't let you trade with them.

In what ******ed alternate reality are you living in? We're in this situation precisely because of Trumps predecessor. The fact that people like you are able to vote is the biggest threat to democracy there is.

Lighten up man. It's not so easy to produce a negative spin on every damn thing that Trump does and the optics aren't always pretty to anyone with a triple digit IQ.

Canada was already in a dire economic climate.

Economic growth in Canada this year is forecast to be 1.6%, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 1.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026.

While we aren't knocking out of the park right this minute, they are doing as worse as they have in decades...maybe ever. As already shared, their GDP has fallen off the charts compared to us even when normalized. They used to be somewhat close to us just 10 years ago. Their UE rate is 2 pts higher than ours.

Trudeau and now Carney have destroyed that country.

This just shows how correct Trump is when we take away all the extras the US gives Canada. They are a ruined country with a very high % of their population being immigrants who are now draining their society. Another thread was saying they are going to let many of those immigrants start voting… they are truely screwed. I can see the US eventually having to do something if the wrong country takes control (it may have already happened). Hopefully not in my lifetime

Toronto is London of the west, a true crap hole full of immigrants who could care less about Canada, similar to where New York is heading

Yeah, we are going to actually start having to police the northern border as Canada continues to degrade itself. People will start bailing.

Too late. Canadian immigration is already so extensive that 1/4 of the population of New England is eligible for Canadian passports.

Maybe so, but taxing Americans for things like wood products is pure stupidity - we don't allow ourselves to cut down our own trees (think of the animals) so we buy from people who gladly sell it to us. So now we are increasing the price of everything made of wood because Trump is being Trump.

This is the problem. Trump beating his chest and bragging about taking down a neighbor is idiotic from an economic standpoint. You want to see American homebuilders go out of business and homebuilding in general fail...tax Canadian lumber imports. And, even if lumber is not on the list of new tariff items, Canada will find a new market to sell to. Superb negotiating. Everything he is "tariff-ing" is making things more expensive for all of us.

Yeah, in reality the tariff debate is just another version of the "greater good" discussion. I accept that there are some good things that come out of tariffs. I just think that more bad things come from them than good, especially when they are not specific and targeted.

Evidence of builders failing because of tariffs? Unless Canada was supplying cheap VDLs in desirable locales combined with low mortgage rates, then NOTHING Canada has done, does or will do impacts US homebuilding in considerable ways. Lawd.

And making your neighbors rich at your expense and that neighbor not pulling their own weight and then having to protect that neighbor at your own considerable expense… that is desirable?

Trump is fixing it.

I think this approach is an "art of the deal" tactic. Make it hurt enough to bring them to the table so that you can get what you really want.

The tariffs have been specific, targeted and formulaically developed. See original Trump announcement on tariffs and subsequent trade deals, refinements, etc.

Carney shouldn't have been such a smug SOB with that stupid ass television ad that his government ran using a Reagan quote out of context to attack Trump.

I'm not a huge fan of tariffs, but what pressure point would you suggest be applied to get them to fix their ***** Because there aren't many tools on the toolbox to grab in these situations.

They can't help themselves, MAGA.

When affordability is the BIGGEST issue that Americans are concerned with, they double down on raising taxes through tariffs.

But it DOES energize their MAGA base, as we see here. This kind of thing really excites them for some reason.

Putting the United States first over Canada does tend to get "MAGA base" energized and excited. What's curious is that it bothers the left… until you consider they hate America.

Uhm, not to let facts get in the way, but Doug Ford, premier of Ontario, ran that ad. They do not even belong to the same political party.

You could just as well blame Donald Trump for something that came out of the mouth of Gavin Newsom.
