This "inconvenient truth" that Canada's economy is actually flourishing with massive amounts of investments is utter nonsense.

Trans-continental oil pipeline? Not a chance say Indians and regulators.
Ports expanding to export natural resources? Nope says climate change cult.
Auto industry? Half the size it was this time last year.
Big EU trade deal? Not even signed yet, much less producing.
Steel, aluminum, and lumber? Oof, oof, and oof'er.
$800K condos in Toronto and Vancouver selling for $500K. Real estate boom indeed.
They just sourced construction of their BC ferries to China and their subs to Scandinavia. Local shipyards lovin' life.
Liquor? Your biggest customer just left town.
Military? They're a coin toss vs Mexico.
"First Nations" claiming a third of BC and making inroads. Blocking tankers and commercial fishing.
Every major project proposed is in the concept stage and looking at the possibility of being real in the 2050's.

So who's exactly investing in this woke, over-regulated, sputtering economy and where is the evidence?

Most don't know the real history of how/why Canada 'got' a disproportionately large auto industry in the first place. Tariffs.

Ford and Mclaughin/GM initially built plants in 1904 and 1907 respectively to avoid...get this now... HIGH IMPORT TARIFFS that the canadian government placed on American autos.

1904. High import tarrifs. From Canada. On American vehicles.

Canada became a large producer of vehicles even though the plants were inefficient.

Because of HIGH TARIFFS on American goods.

The auto pact of 1965 did away with tarrifs but forced the companies to maintain a certain level of production to be duty free.

In the 80's overseas automakers built plants in Canada to avoid export restrictions and avoid trade barriers. Much like Canada allowing China to dump plywood in their country to avoid similar conditions.
They did not build these plants to serve the Canadian market, they built them to flood the American market.

Canadian tarrif and trade policy has a long history of being anti American.

Apparently Canadian voters have a lot of self-belief in their own toughness and ability to deal with the temporary headwinds caused by Trump's tariffs. In 3 elections yesterday they voted their support for what Carney is doing.

GOP campaign strategists are acutely aware most U.S. voters disapprove of Trump's Canada tariffs and trade war on Canada.

Just got back from a trip with a couple of overnight layovers in Montreal. Two cab rides to and from the airport into downtown each layover.

Out of 4 cab rides, I didn't have an english speaking driver. A couple did speak french, but the other two were speaking something radically different. Every cab driver I saw at the airport was either middle eastern or African descent and current culture.

They were all ignoring direction by airport traffic officials and had their cabs parked at unloading zones with clear signage of no loitering. We had to double park to unload our bags.

Montreal reminds me of London; whereas London is no longer predominantly populated by the English, and Montreal is no longer predominantly populated by the Canadians.

ETA: and Canadian whisky is a poor substitute for American bourbon or sour mash. Really poor. Glacier vodka was good, tho.

Was in Toronto last month. Same thing. Took half a bottle of cologne throughout the trip to cover the BO stench from the Ubers that had seeped into my clothes.

That's not a new/future thing in Canada, at all.

The CCP EV push is part of a trend/plan. Disruption/destruction of the existing auto industry (per my earlier post here today) is just a feature to the functional folks in Beijing controlling Ottawa.

One would be very hard pressed to even find a skeptical comment from CCP state media about Carney/Canada in the past 10 years.

And it was based on a US provisional extradition for financial aid fraud to Iran. A lot has changed in 8 years.

Not really. The 2018 through 2021 Meng Wanzhou affair. Meng is the daughter of the Huawei chairman and founder, iirc. Canada's legal system honored our extradition request and detained her at the Vancouver BC airport after she had left the USA. Canada held her under house arrest for 3 years. China arrested and falsely imprisoned two Canadian citizens as hostages in response. Xi and Meng's dad were mad as hell at Canada. Quite an international spat, even though we orchestrated it. Canada doesn't have to worry about a repeat, though. China has learned how to use crypto to get Trump's full cooperation in this second term.

I assume you really do believe what you have stated regarding Carney. I just can't reconcile it with what factual history/information I have read. 'Even though we orchestrated it' is an interesting perspective. I'll leave it at that.

Chinese telecom and IT infrastructure is now embedded throughout Canada and it's government. It will expand with their EV's once their present auto industry collapses.
