I once had a Canadian supervisor who migrated to the United states because he was tired of watching his brother-in-law managing a government owned liquor store & smoking weed all day make more money than he could as an engineer with a masters degree. This was 35 years ago. Doubt that opportunities have gotten any better.

Women are Canada's biggest strategic advantage? If so, they are truly screwed.
Here I thought having a friendly democracy with the most advanced military in the world as its southern border was their biggest strategic advantage. The fact that a lieutenant general can't recognize that simple fact illustrates how screwed they are.

I had to look this up because I just couldn't believe it at first:

What does have a maximum of 5 years is the separate, narrower offence of infanticide (ss. 233 and 237):

It applies only when a female person (the mother) causes the death of her newly-born child (a person under one year of age) by a wilful act or omission.
At the time, she must not be fully recovered from the effects of giving birth, and her mind must be disturbed by reason of the birth or consequent lactation.

It is a hybrid offence: maximum 5 years if the Crown proceeds by indictment; lower penalties (up to 2 years less a day and/or a fine) if by summary conviction. There is no mandatory minimum.

Infanticide is treated as a form of culpable homicide distinct from murder or manslaughter precisely because of the recognized mental disturbance linked to childbirth. It can sometimes function as a partial defence that reduces a murder charge. It does not apply to anyone other than the mother in those specific circumstances, nor does it apply to ordinary murder of an infant.

In short: killing a child under 1 can still be charged and punished as murder (life sentence). The 5-year maximum applies only to the specialized offence of infanticide when its strict criteria are met.

Carney coming out today and saying "We'll come to the table when the Americans are ready." is the most hilarious thing this week. Hey I won the by elections now I want my deal. I hope they just drop a notice of non-renewal on USMCA on their desk and say since you walked away from a done deal, let's start at the beginning.

The capital flight will be insane. My company is actively encouraging suppliers to decouple from Canada where and when possible because of the risk.

This

Carney got his elbows up theater for the by elections. But of course Obama and the Dems are pressuring Carney not to make a deal until after the midterms in the hopes that they can win a majority and then try to take credit for it. But that's risky for him because despite certain CCP ops on here trying to convince us that Canada will be the next world super power under Carney, they can see the real and actual figures and know that their economy full of moochers and constrained by watermelon communists can't sustain a protracted trade war and no matter who wins the midterms, Trump is still president for another 3 years.

Also note that they are really trying to influence Wisconsin, Maine and Michigan. Some competitive/semi-competitive races.

Right after the election, regardless of the results, Trump should bump up the tariffs from 50% to 5000%.

It would make Carney **** his pants on live TV...because he'd realize that 95% of all Canadian exports were done...

Let Carney know that if he wanted to start a trade war, we've got much bigger hammers than they do....

Yes their state-run media has openly boasted about the Carney trade war helping Democrats in battleground states, and note per my post above yesterday even a Liberal MP campaigning with/for DWS down in florida a couple weeks ago.

Quote:

Canada's government yanked American beer, wine, and spirits off provincial shelves. U.S. alcohol exports to Canada collapsed ~81%. You did that to the United States and not to anyone else. That is discrimination. Section 338 exists for exactly that.

You run a dairy cartel. Over-quota tariffs of 200300%. Retailers can import EU cheese under CETA in ways they cannot import U.S. cheese under USMCA. Then you act shocked when Washington treats that as unequal treatment.

You capped U.S. vehicles from companies moving production back to America. You already had retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel, aluminum, and autos. Then you walked out of talks, announced "sacrifices" for Canadians, and scheduled another $27.6 billion in counter-tariffs for September 8.

That is not a victim story. That is an escalation you chose.

An advisory committee photo-op does not change the math. Roughly three-quarters of Canadian goods exports go to the United States. Americans do not need a lecture from the country that pulled Jim Beam and California wine while hiding behind supply management.

If Ottawa wants the tariffs off, put U.S. product back on the shelf, stop treating American dairy and autos as second-class, and negotiate instead of holding press conferences about "unjustified" measures you provoked.

The U.S. ran a 43.7 billion dollar trade deficit with Canada in 2025. That was down from 63.6-61.2 billion the two years prior.

Stop selling Canadians a false morality play. This is a trade fight you picked and then lost the plot on.

Carney's train deal; factory to build train cars at $15 million ea., Portugal got the same company to do it and build them in Portugal for $3.6 million ea, signed 6 months earlier. Czech railways got Siemens high speed cars for $2.7 million ea.

Such a brilliant negotiator who hires all the best people to work for him/Canada.

Carney has no off ramp.

We don't. It's just a small-market next door. And a very captive one, to their government which also just went live with their Carney tariffs on steel etc, and re-opened talks with China on military cooperation (met on Sept. 4th).

Uh, camada might be cautious to not make too serious a military relationship with china because the usa might need to do something about it.

See- Venezuela, iran

I'm sure this is just Carney pulling whatever lever he can to pressure the usa.

Start by taking them out of the Five Eyes alliance. If they are going to be cozying up to the Chinese, they don't need high level intelligence access from us.

If he were just pulling levers for trade talk leverage, he would be announcing things like reopening talks with them. But when you look at who he has brought in to be senior advisors, a bunch of them are long time chinese stooges. He isn't bringing those kinds of people into his inner circle of advisors for short term leverage against Trump.

That's also a good, common-sense option. If you are going to be a military partner with China, then you literally can't be in Five Eyes.

Granted, I'm not sure if Five Eyes has any actual ROI as it is.

As infested with CCP spies/operatives as our intelligence community is, Canada and the UK are much worse. It defies any kind of logic to share imagery or humint stuff with these folks. The latter played an active role in Russiagate as well to say the least, and continue to coordinate with enemies of the American people.

Trade with China is one thing...we obviously do it...but initiating a military cooperation with them? WTF is he thinking here?

Our Defense Doctrine specifically calls out a pivot back towards the Western Hemisphere and locking it down against China and securing our interests over here. Thus, VZ and Cuba.

He's forcing Trump to act on that.

It's been going on for a while. Nothing new. Canada has gone along with some of the limitations on China like blocking Huawei from their 5G networks, but they haven't gone along willingly. Trump is going to crush BRICS and China is the key. Canada is going to get crushed if they don't fall in line. The feds are doing stuff all over the globe to block China and hurt them financially. Lots of resources getting deployed. Canada is not going to be allowed to disrupt that literally in our backyard.

IMO this global initiative is part of Trump's financial plan too which makes it doubly dangerous for Canada. Trump is opening markets that were closed by China as well as gaining access to alternative energy sources and rare earths plus the opportunities for rebuilding and modernizing industries. He thinks he can address the deficit by growing GDP. It costs money of course, so this is a big gamble, but Trump is the poster boy for making big bets.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Broken Country' filmmaker warns Canada's slow decline offers cautionary tale for Americans
Filmmakers interviewed more than 4,500 Canadians and 70 policy experts to challenge the nation's progressive image
Rachel del Guidice By Rachel del Guidice Fox News

A new documentary is challenging the image of Canada as a progressive model for the United States, with filmmakers traveling across the country and interviewing more than 4,500 Canadians as they examined mounting concerns over healthcare, affordability, drug policy, immigration, crime and government spending.

"Broken Country," directed by Canadian filmmaker Mira Metter and coproduced by her husband, Mike Werry, takes a critical look at how life in Canada has changed over the past two decades and the government policies the filmmakers argue helped drive that transformation. The filmmakers also interviewed more than 70 policy experts for the project.

Canada is in love with cheap knock-off merchandise from China. I met 2 businessmen from Canada late last year on a fishing trip down in Florida. They openly raved about all the cheap knock-off merchandise they buy from China. Almost giddy about it. They bragged about them buying cheap knock-off stuff from China and then pawning them off as the actual real deal US brands back in Canada. Everything from commercial flooring to clothing. One guy was even sporting a high-end branded outdoor jacket that he said he had made in China for less than 1/2 the cost of the actual brand it was supposed to be. It was their schtick..... find a well known brand, call China, get it replicated and shipped to them in Canada, then sell it as real deal merch.

I was flabbergasted at how open they were about it.

I've been dealing with Chinese imports for years (have worked for US manufacturers of construction accessories my whole career)

China uses Canada as a dumping ground to get around NAFTA back in the day and now our current deal. They will bring in knocked down kits or partly completed products into Canada. Then someone in Canada will add enough parts/pieces or assemble in Canada to where it meets current trade agreements.
