If that's what happens, I wouldn't be upset.

He was raised to be a GL, trained by a GL, has used Hal's ring in the past (sparingly)...and they told him, all he had to do was put it on and say the oath, and he'd be a GL.

Seems like everything needed was already set in motion...other than him opting out previously.

I dont really have an issue with him saying the oath now, and becoming a GL.

I don't really think that's his intention.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's going to be something along the lines of:

- He uses the Halogram to open that box in the storage unit
- The lantern is in the box along with some kind of recording and/or he otherwise comes across evidence that Hal left a trail of clues for him pointing to some kind of issue with the guardians
- He doesn't necessarily WANT to become a green lantern, but he has to to stop whatever this conspiracy is

But the Guardians (or whoever is in charge of decommissioning rings) not making sure it was completely out of power or whatever is still dumb.

That episode:

Gave the back story of the Manhunters via Sinestro
Made Hal say out loud that John is his replacement
Dangles the idea that if Hal captures the Manhunter, the Guardians will let him stay a lantern
Has Lianna dangle the instant access to becoming GL to John
Exposes who the Manhunter actually is

I exaggerated a little but not much. What I meant was that the show engineered that whole unnecessary scene and the leadup conversation about Disney calling the non-visible parts his park "The Weenie", just for that one joke. All of the relevant info relayed in that particular episode could have been relayed without that scene, and I think it actually does happen outside of that scene. So, just IMO the whole joke and setup for the joke came across as silly and juvenile in a show that wants to be gritty and mature, and a waste of time in a season that only has 8 episodes.

It does also establish Johns interest in architecture prior to the 2026 reveal that he becomes on.
Thays the exact sort of thing someone who nerds out about architecture on would know (the Walt Disney structure)

If Laura Linney's character is a Guardian gone rogue, which certainly seems likely given we don't know anyone else who would have broken Sinestro out, she could easily have not really decommissioned the ring, but still made it possible for JS to use it in case she was able to eventually convince him to join her side.

He had to tap the ring on the headstone to access the emergency 5% power reserve.

This is the "unnecessarily convoluted plot" method I came up with in my own head. That somehow someone (or several someones) wanted Guy to get the ring and bring it to John for some reason, but I couldn't come up with a way there that isn't just comically complicated.

I know but that's what I'm saying. For me it would be easier to buy into him having some kind of magical ability to use the ring without it being powered on than the guardians of the universe forgetting to discharge the extra 5%.

From what I've seen a second season of this has not been confirmed yet. So, how much is covered in these last two episodes without it either A) feeling rushed just to complete the story, or B) is left open at the end of episode 8 in the assumption there's a 2nd season.

To me, there's a lot to cram into only 2 more episodes, especially if the 7th episode spends a lot of time on Hal's past.

I'm no screenwriter , and obviously there's still two episodes left to go in the season , but here's how I would have shaped this season.....

Keep the marketing as is and totally play up the entire season as a very earthbound murder mystery. However, that plot line is actually completed by the end of episode four. Not only that, but Hal and John dislike each other, but they've learned some mutual respect for what the other is capable of and part ways at the end of the episode after having taken down the manhunter threat and the mission accomplished. Viewer is left wondering what the heck is gonna happen in the second half of the season.

Episode 5 opens 10 years later and John is a private citizen architect. But suddenly something happens to him personally (mom getting killed?) that he quickly discovers has to do with the events in rushville. Hal shows up on John's doorstep and reveals that he's come across some major clues about a cover up related to the events in Rushviille, and these two realize they're gonna have to work together because no one else believes or cares about this deeper mystery. They interview Sinestro in jail early on in the episode, and the episode ends with them hearing of Sinestro's breakout. The remaining three episodes take place primarily in space as they unravel this mystery that involves Guardian corruption, the manhunter they killed 10 years earlier, the death of john's mom, and Sinestro breaking out of prison.

No it wouldn't have. It was a magic drill that disintegrated the dirt. I don't even know why they needed it to be a drill... it was literally vaporizing the dirt into nothing.
