the transition of Ellie from Game 1 to Game 2 from somewhat sweet and innocent to ruthless revenge seeker is enough to set off the other thread. We will see some of that in season 1, but lord does she become ruthless (at least to me) in game 2.

Not to mention:

Joel "golfing", Lev, Ellie and Dina, Butch Abby, Abby "sexy" boat time and the ending...

I kinda want to post a warning that the woke stuff will get worse next season so save yourself (and us) the trouble so we don't have to hear the *****ing

But that would be a spoiler
The woke stuff wasn't even that bad. The ****ty pacing and storytelling was abysmal though. Fortunately it will probably have to be told in a different format for tv so it may actually turn out better than the game.

It will be interesting how they do the time swap on HBO. Three days as Ellie and then three days as Abby? Or swap during each episode?

Also, really interested to see the aftermath of what was going on to the foundation of the building she was being shown. I'm guessing somehow there are things happening underground that we are about to be very aware of and it's not good. I've been to KC a couple of times and I'm not aware of it having anything like a subway system like they do in other cities in the country, there are subway situations in the game but KC doesn't feel like a city that works for story wise.

i was wondering if maybe its city utilities failing.... water/gas mains getting ready to blow after 20 years of neglect.

they know its an issue but have not told the people yet.
that would not cause the heaving ground like that. And i would expect being a quarantine zone that FERDA(?) would maintain those facilities so they keep working.

The stairwell they climbed looked like the one from the Hotel Kansas City. But it doesn't go up 50+ floors...

Wondering if the "hole" and the infected below it are Ish's colony? Totally new way of telling that part of the story...

Would have loved to see Ish story be told in a full episode similar to Bill & Frank.
im thinking you're right and that they are combining these 2 moments in the game:

1. There's already been a cave in at the hotel and after starting the generator a bunch of infected + a bloater come after you in all directions.

2. The Ish storyline that you get from surroundings and notes left around.
Guess I should have paid more attention to the notes. Guess I will be doing some reading today.
oh there's a bunch….and it's sad as hell
What are you two talking about? I'm completely lost here.

ill spoil tag it for anyone who doesn't know what we're referring to

after you come across Henry and Sam in the game you navigate a sewer area. While navigating it if you walk around the entire area checking for supplies, you discover that there was at one point one person living there called Ish. He was paranoid and wanted to live by himself but eventually let someone else in (think his name was Kyle) who had a wife and kids. Eventually they developed a colony and were pretty much safe. They even had a school and multiple families living there.

At one point someone got complacent and infected got in. Pretty much everyone died and you discover the infected that you'd been killing while in there were people that were in this colony. One really sad moment is when you discover a room with a note where an adult who locked himself in there with all the kids had to make the difficult decision to spare the kids getting killed by the infected and killed the kids himself before they broke through the door.

afterwards you find a note that the only people to survive were Ish and the mother of the kids that were left in there. The mother kept wanting to run back in and Ish held her back because there was nothing she could do to save her kids.

All this is discovered through various notes left around the sewer colony you're exploring as well as the houses outside.....sad as hell and i really hope they explore this in the show

OK, I read the 1st paragraph but stopped but I get it, thanks.

Also, I though we were not discussing game stuff in this thread? Or could everyone please preface game stuff before posting b/c I thought i missed a secret episode or something.

I'm thinking Katee Sackhoff could be the best Abby. She could play the butch crazy girl role well.

I love how ruthless Ellie gets in TLOU2.
Makes you feel like an absolute badass playing her role.

The way the developers added voiceover to the characters when you shoot, shiv, or grab someone is crazy

Love the way this story strays but stays true to the game. I assume that the kid clickers that got Kathleen and team were from Ish colony.

I'm still in tears over here. I've played the game many times, but this was so well done. It was like experiencing it for the first time. Damn.

The show is so good and so emotionally brutal. The deaths of Sarah, Tess, Bill, Frank, Henry, and Sam. Only one episode out of 5 so far doesn't rip your heart of out your chest and stomp on it. Ellie trying to save Sam made it that much worse. The kid deaths are the worst.

Did anyone else get the sense from the preview that they're condensing the Wyoming and Colorado sequences? Guess there being snow when they meet Tommy might have thrown it off a bit, but seemed like to me that they meet the cannibals when Joel is active, instead of recovering from a shot like in the game.

Either way, going to be really disappointed if there's no giraffe

Same here. I'm in shambles. This is pretty phenomenal:

ETA: I tried to link a tweet with spoiler tags but apparently that doesn't work. Check out the twitter account @chrisdadeviant for a game and show side by side comparison. Doesn't spoil anything further but really cool.

Agree with everyone here that them changing the story and having Ellie try to help Sam made it even more gut wrenching….

Man, was not expecting that since I didn't play the game. Just getting attached to Henry and Sam's story, then bam.

The infected rush scene was awesome. The awkward clicker movement in the SUV creeped me out. Glad Joel entered the unlimited ammo cheat code

One more thing I really like is that in the show, they're not hesitant to use kid versions of the infected. The clicker girl in the car was awesome/terrifying. All of the runners/clickers in the game were adult sized. Well, except for Sam of course.

In the game, the sniper section was less chaotic, but it was super satisfying. After all the resource scrounging and sneaking around, you're given this ultra powerful rifle with infinite ammo, and you get this brief section of being able to just pop enemy heads with reckless abandon before having to go back to the normal gameplay.

It seems as though I'm definitely in the minority, but this was probably my least favorite episode. I still don't understand why the militia was following the lady. I understand she was the old leader's sister, and they had the one line where the beard guy said nothing happened until she took over, but I guess I need to see more of why she was a good leader. To me, she was just hell bent on vengeance for her brother and was clearly ignoring actual issues and using all the resources to get one person. In the end, she ended up getting the entire town killed. It seemed to me that beard guy knew she was a bad leader, too. She never made any intelligent moves that made me understand how she could have lead a revolution. I guess I could never get past that to enjoy the rest of the episode.

Agreed. This episode did at least fill in some of the narrative questions about her backstory and motivations. But still not a fan of her casting. The weakest part of the show by far.

Definitely not in the minority. Her character was awful.

Was hoping she'd get better in her 2nd episode…but nope!
