Good god we need a bloater to show up Sunday
Already skipped the first one.
the second one was way more chaotic in game anyway….it was when you're separated from Ellie after falling down the elevator shaft….

Bloater wasn't even the worst part of that sequence. You could run away from him easily. Damn stalkers were the worst.

The other thread is obsessed with Bill's (a tertiary character) gayness. I'm not looking forward to that thread when they find out Ellie is a lesbian.

You should have already figured that out...

Lol I don't think they have. The show hasn't really touched on it yet.

Dudes who are grossed out by male homosexuality have traditionally had less of a problem with gir/girl action.

Not sure about tonight's episode. I get some changes but skipping the hotel entirely. They could have done so much with Ellie being on her own and separated from Joel. I know that a game and show are different with the interaction, but it seems that they are missing out on some of the most tense parts of the game.

So, instead of getting ambushed in Pittsburgh, it is Kansas City this time? I don't remember much from the first game...

Yea, after they showed the hotel lobby (from Pitt in the game) in episode 2, figured that would be all we get from the hotel environment. I want to see at least one Molotov cocktail kill before they move on from Kansas City

The scene with Ellie saving Joel and the kill of that guy was well done. Pretty cool that it was Frank's gun she used to save Joel; the same gun Frank took with him to save Bill from the raiders

Looks like we've got a Bloater/Rat King mini coming next episode. That has potential to be really good

Really liked that they took the truck scene and hank Williams music track directly from the game

Diarrhea joke exchange was hilarious

Awesome easter egg to hear the song from TLOU2 that Ellie sings, during the credits

Hard to follow episode 3. This episode was good, not great, for me

how is it there is still viable gasoline available decades after the apocalypse and since no more refineries are running?

Joel mentions cars need way more gas than before because it's more like water. So it seems it works, just very inefficiently now.

In the discussion from the producers after the show they basically said they chose KC because it looked more like Calgary (where they were filming).

I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't really like the actress playing Ellie. She doesn't seem like she has the personality. To me, the part with the joke book mostly fell flat.

Also, right now I'm not buying the lady leading the group in KC. I can't see so many hardcore people lining up behind her.

Agreed not sure if it's the actress or the character writing or a combination, but it's not great in my opinion

Maybe I missed it but did they ever say why Kathleen and the others are hunting down Henry? I'm doing a replay of the game and IIRC you just run into him and Sam while hiding and going through buildings but not necessarily that they were being hunted for any specific reason. They just wanted to get out of the city. Kathleen is not a character from the game so her storyline is new.

Also, really interested to see the aftermath of what was going on to the foundation of the building she was being shown. I'm guessing somehow there are things happening underground that we are about to be very aware of and it's not good. I've been to KC a couple of times and I'm not aware of it having anything like a subway system like they do in other cities in the country, there are subway situations in the game but KC doesn't feel like a city that works for story wise.

I don't think we've gotten the full backstory of Kathleen/Henry, but my assumption was that he's perceived as FEDRA agent/sympathizer (like the doctor) and now Kathleen's group are tying up loose ends since they're now in power

It was a little wonky, kind of getting dropped in the middle of the story. I assume we will get some flashbacks this week but needed Kathleen to go unhinged thinking Joel is with Henry

Kathleen is Rose from Two and a Half Men. The actress is fine. No backstory on character makes her amiss. Episode was definite improvement to the flow of the story.

I do think this episode could have used 5 more minutes. I didn't really have trouble tracking but based on some of the more reasonable feedback from the other thread it did make a few leaps for folks Regarding Kathleen and Henry

i was wondering if maybe its city utilities failing.... water/gas mains getting ready to blow after 20 years of neglect.

they know its an issue but have not told the people yet.

Possibly so, agree it's something that Kathleen and the other guy know what it is but are pushing it off to deal with Henry. Sealing the building feels like a band-aid on a bullet hole situation. Because of that interaction it feels like Kathleen vs Henry is a personal vendetta of hers and the guy with her seems to know whatever is going on in that building is a bigger deal than Henry, but she's in charge so he'll follow her lead. Because of that they're already setting themselves up for failure. They have a group of hundreds, if not more, that they are using in full force to locate an individual. She is putting collective welfare in peril because she has tunnel vision. Lots of foreshadowing to a situation Joel will be put in eventually.

My guess: Henry had something to do with Kathleen's brother getting caught/tortured/killed by FEDRA. She's a new character to the world and not in the game.

As for the hole in the ground, we do know that a "boss" bloater will come out of that as we have seen one climbing out of a hole in teasers. My guess is maybe a group of people went underground in 2003ish and somehow got infected and as the mutate get stronger and finally will breakthrough. It's been explained that the longer one stay infected they go from runner to stalker to clicker to bloater and finally rat king

During the interrogation with the doctor, Kathleen mentioned that Henry gave up her brother to FEDRA. That's why they want him. It also seems like she has a familiarity with Henry/Sam, so I am guessing that Henry was part of their group, but turned because they were taking things too far, or something like that. Also, it sounded like Henry is stealing supplies from them. They haven't mentioned why FEDRA wanted her brother, but I assume it was because he was leading/working with the insurrection.

I won't take credit for this but saw it elsewhere. What of the reason Kathleen is in charge is because her brother was the one in charge and she was more of his logistics person. Him being turned over by Henry is how she came to be in charge

That's what I am assuming at this point, but it seems like a weak answer to me. It's also possible her brother isn't dead, but just captured. That would explain why no one is attempting a coup... Or maybe she has some special control over the bloater, and no one wants to risk her releasing it.

Right now, I definitely don't understand why the militia is following her. They've done a good job, though, of explaining a lot of the "just because" stuff from the game, so at this point I assume they'll have a good explanation for why a seemingly soft leader is in charge.

FYI so that those of us watching the show won't be impacted by the Super Bowl, HBO will be releasing episode 5 on Friday at 8:00 pm central time.
