It was once you overcame the initial sniper. Wasn't he a crack shot in the game and you had to move very stealthily?

They talk about this change in the podcast. They said in the game they made him a great shot because they wanted to make it so when the player got up there he was pissed off and wanted to unleash. Since you're just a passive observer in the show, they didn't think it would play the same. Instead they thought it would be better if the sniper was someone the viewer might sympathize with (an old man who was basically done and willing to commit suicide by cop).

Have been impressed with how well they've tied the series to aspects of the game. When they came across the sniper, they used a similar sound effect they do when you're about to be discovered in the game.

Absolutely loved seeing Ellie get her first shiv kills.

Bloater decapitating Tommy voice actor was awesome. RIP Tommy voice actor

Awesome and that makes sense. Makes me want to listen to the podcast.

I'm talking about the part when you were actually using the sniper rifle. When you're sneaking up, as I recall, you're also dealing with multiple bad guys, and it was a much narrower street.

correct and the sniper was a dang good shot in the game. Just got through this part about a week ago and didn't remember being that frustrating but died several times.

No matter what side of the street you go down you do have bad guys show up.

Noticed this though and thought it was pretty hilarious….

While playing the game when that area starts and you're behind the car, I kept wanting to go right and always ended up dying before I made it to the house…..first time I went left I beat it….

And in the show Joel goes left….

I highly recommend the official podcast as well, it really adds to your understanding of the decisions they make and why. I thought at first when Kathleen and company showed up that the sniper was a bad shot on purpose because she wouldn't want anyone else to have the chance to kill Henry but her. But they explained that he was just old and not in his prime anymore. They also talked about how they came up with the idea that Sam was deaf, Druckman admitted he was really upset that he didn't think of that when he was designing the game. It's really nice to hear the game creator and show runner talk because it's a really cooperative production. Both of them are really open to sharing ideas and trying to make the best story possible to enhance the show and deviate from the game when it makes sense.

Just a pitch perfect episode. I'm kind of glad I didn't replay the games before because I don't remember every detail.

The infected crater was fist pumping awesomeness.

The way they duplicated the sniper play of the game where you have to protect Ellie was perfect.

The mirroring of the replies with "Do I look afraid?" / "Do I not look afraid?" was perfect. The ending was heartbreaking as hell with "I'm sorry".

This is pretty wild from the final scene of episode 5.

Quote:

This is the lighting setup for night exteriors. The blue strip in the deep background is a blue-screen wall that is 50' tall.
The lights over the street are mammoth truss grid frames (probably somewhere around 100'x60') and are hanging from big-ass cranes with well over 100' of stick out... The lights on the right side are on giant aerial lifts (probably 120'ers)
And while it looks like a model, that is a full size neighborhood and those are real people walking around on the ground..
The rental bill for the lighting and cable ALONE was over $500,000 per WEEK if you don't count the generators, cranes, manlifts, blue screen, scaffolding etc.
Yup... It costs real money to tell stories...

Damn, that is awesome. Yeah the crane boom lengths and hook reach would make me nervous, but they probably are well within the load limit

It took me way too long staring at that trying to determine if it was a model or actually life size….simply because my eyes couldn't believe the scope of something that epic and big life size……

Also looking at it on my phone may have something to do with it as well

Finally pulled myself away from Hogwarts legacy long enough to watch the episode and man, it was great. They are really nailing this show. It's been a while since I've played the game so I don't recognize all of the deviations, but everything they've done has worked. Really really enjoying it.

I was wondering the same thing. I could see it being indoors just as easy as being outdoors.

Just watched the last episode - loved it. Absolutely heart breaking and badass and everything all at once. Also really glad we're done with Kathleen. I thought the character itself was fine (ruthless female leader of a revolutionary group is believable enough for my tastes), it was just very poorly executed with the casting choice in my opinion. Felt more like a gentle kindergarten teacher than someone who's out for blood

Now to wade through the 100+ comments on the other thread

NGT was actually relatively tame this week. I guess that makes sense since we didn't have any homosexuals and all the women leaders got killed

The 6th episode hasn't even dropped yet….but it already has a 9.4 rating on IMDB with 258 ratings entered. Why do this???

Why make it available to rate when no one has seen it yet???

Think the only thing remaining this season that will stir them up is when they cover the DLC storyline. Other than that, we'll have to wait for season 2 for the real fireworks.

I'd be very shocked if the safety coordinator allowed people to walk under that lifted load if it was unsheltered.

I guessed episode 8. Figure the next two will be Tommy and winter…stuff. 8 will be a DLC Ellie origin story episode. 9 will be finale. Weird that we're already more than halfway through though.

Is this a one season show? Or are there multiple seasons planned? I mean if the end game is getting Ellie to a scientific safe haven then it'll take a lot of creativity to stretch this a few seasons.

have you played the game?

This'll be multiple seasons but this first season is ending where the first game ends.

And if you haven't played I'd be careful on this thread and head over to the NGT for this cause most likely big parts are about to get spoiled.

It's been a while since I played the game but I remember the fight at the campus being a much bigger to-do. But I think the show has scaled down a number of engagements from the game and I don't think that's a terrible thing in terms of presenting a more realistic/less gamified take on the story.

Great episode, loved the native couple at the beginning. Next week should be great - both from an episode standpoint and a drama standpoint as joker is alluding.

Kicking Bird and the lady from Northern Exposure ended up together. Didn't see that coming

Once again, another really good episode with some awesome cinematography.
