question for us here....cause it's been discussed A TON on the other thread and not quite as much here....but we are now 6 episodes in to this thing

What's y'alls opinion of Ellie? At the beginning I wasn't 100% sure but overall thought she was pretty good.....now after this most recent episode i think she's pretty much nailing it especially with the pivotal conversation between her and joel towards the end about joel dumping her with tommy.....

the only complaint is she doesn't look like the version of Ellie from the game and while i thought that'd be distracting im used to it now....

curious to hear what other gamers here think of her now that were through 6 episodes.....and bare in mind this could change a lot since episode 7 is clearly gonna be the DLC episode and very Ellie centric....
I think she's a ****ing great actress. She and Pedro are a hell of a duo. Lady Mormont definitely delivers for me.

HBO season 2 question/comment (put under spoiler for those that haven't played Part 2)

with Joel going golfing early in part 2, I am trying to remember back to my playthrough...I remember a lot of flashbacks (after all it was Ellie's driving force) so I assume they will have enough acting for Pedro to be in almost every episode. People are rally falling for Joel (more then Ellie) at this point in the series. A couple of flashbacks could be full episodes.

Just finished latest episode. Pretty solid series with solid character building.

I can't believe some of the gripes on this thread. Cracks me up. Just enjoy the series people. It's put together pretty well.

Correct and I've assumed the same thing regarding how they'll handle it. However this did occur to me....

The death of Joel is going to be pretty jarring for everyone who doesn't know it's coming. Hell it was for us players but to have that in a show where you're just watching and have it happen in the first episode might have a worse reaction than the Negan scene in TWD.

Therefore I'm going to guess that the flashbacks we saw as players are going to take up the first two episodes of season 2. So odds are we won't see Joel go golfing until episode 3 is my guess.

They could always work in a few other flashbacks during the show that were never in the game so the audience can still see him later on in season 2.

Honestly though I don't envy them trying to figure out the beginning of season 2. That's a tall order.

Good thoughts here. I was thinking about this the other day, and also think they're going to play around with flashbacks a lot for this. Here's what I'm thinking…

I could see them starting our S2 with Ellie approaching Seattle on her quest for revenge. Throughout the season, viewer is left wondering what caused her hate, with flashbacks throughout season leading up to golfing much later on. I could see a scenario where the Joel death isn't shown until near the end of S2 or S3, if they're truly going to split TLOU 2 into two seasons like they've hinted. I'm betting that they won't take what TWD learned after the Negan kills lightly, because that obliterated their viewership, and the Joel kill as we all know is brutal.

My bad

I thought I was replying to that train wreck. Forgot there were two threads on the same show. I replied to the first thread I saw on here.

Yes, the non gamers one is pure loco.

Safe to say that whoever plays Abby will be universally hated!

...also...

I hope in this day in age, Naughty Dog has found a way to be radio silent on part 3 and they are much further along than publicly stated. Not likely but hope...

...but maybe some stand alone DLC that is not factions. I want to go to Catalina. I also want to see what's beyond the ranch house as Ellie walks away.

Even if they had started working on it right after part 2 was released, already had the initial story written, and were using the same engine without any improvements other than a few iterative ones during ongoing development, it would probably still be a few years out. I would venture that none of those are true.

gotta say now that the show is far enough away from the episodes that had the NGT complaining....it's been fun this last episode seeing their reactions since some of them are seriously questioning if joel will live or not....since we know what's coming it's hard to have the perspective of someone watching this for the first time on tv rather than a game....

cause i dont know about yall....but when i did my first playthrough there was no doubt in my mind that joel would survive....but it was a game where he was the main protagonist and he still had to get ellie to the fireflies so there was no way they game was going to ditch that character 2/3rds of the way through to play as ellie the rest of the time...

Just finished up the section of the game with David, which I'm guessing is going to make for episode 8. I forgot how stressful that part of the game is, both as Ellie and as Joel. Next Sunday will be intense. Tomorrow will be different for me since I didn't play the DLC.

download it. The mall sequence is just great story telling and relationship building stuff with a stressful sequence towards the end.

However there's another separate playable section with that DLC where you place as Ellie more during the segment when Joel is injured and trying to gather supplies in a mall. That part was awesome!!

yeah I had admittedly forgot. But I did laugh at everyone thinking they won't know Joel's outcome until episode 8

I do predict this, the usual suspects will complain on how Joel is fixed up

thing is….the injury in the show is MUCH more believable to come back from than what happened in game….

Cause in the game he was impaled fully with rebar right through his gut….no way in a tv show would they have made it believable he'd of survived that….

I had low expectations going into this episode but enjoyed it. Was pretty tense the entire time as you knew the infected would pop up at some point.

However, watching the trailer for next week's episode got me excited.

Game players are appreciating it for what it was.

It's DLC. Nonessential but still adds to the story

you see Joel's voice actor in that trailer!! Yelled it out during the trailer and had to rewind it!

This episode truly captured how boring and forgettable the DLC was, so A+ for accuracy. I knew I wasn't going to like this episode going into it. Next episode will be great.

I don't think last night's episode was bad, but it was a little underwhelming compared to the others we've had so far this season. I can appreciate that it would be a big deal to any kid growing up in that world to see what a mall is like, it's something they never would have experienced in their lives. I actually would have preferred to see some more of Ellie's life at the FEDRA school. Though I do think it did a good job establishing that Ellie has been alone her entire life and how important it will be to her to keep Joel alive.

Based on her conversation with Riley it sounds like Ellie never even knew her parents. I know she talked about being an orphan before but I just couldn't remember whether she said anything about actually not knowing them at all. If that's the case Joel is the only family she's ever had, she's seen what he's had to do to keep her alive. And by being his daughter by proxy she's unwilling to do any less to keep him alive.

Really looking forward to next weekend, the penultimate episode with David.

I can't remember Left Behind ending...didn't it end very similar to the show? Letting the player/viewer use their imagination on how it ended?

Did Ellie cap Riley as she turned? Did she cap herself?

Mall scene in the show (including ending) was amazing with how close it was to the game…..wasn't shot for shot and they combined a few areas but that was necessary….

What they took out was the snow part of the DLC where Ellie has to go through a different mall to try and find a first aid kit for Joel fighting zombies and hunters

Seeing lots of negative reviews in various places regarding last night's episode. I could totally see how non-gamers wouldn't appreciate it but as one who has played the DLC, the episode was done extremely well imo.

It's been a long time since I played it but I thought there were a lot more clickers and/or military personnel you had to battle with and there being parts that were hard as hell to beat. I could be misremembering the whole thing as well.

It was the weakest episode but still good. I feel like with so few episodes having two basically stand alone episodes might be a bit too much in favor of more of the main story. Honestly they could have approached this episode like the DLC and did like Euphoria did and release it as a standalone episode in between season 1 and 2. Still quality though and it should be a great last few episodes.

IMO she definitely killed Riley. She mentions killing someone to Joel when she shoots the kid in KC and then didn't want to talk about it. Had to be Riley, IMO.

Last night served the story and plot incredibly well, imo. It provides the explanation as to why she stayed with Joel instead of leaving him for dead. I don't consider it a bottle episode at all. It was definitely slower, but when non gamers see the final two episodes I think they'll understand the show needed a slower episode here.

I have incredibly high expectations for the last two episodes. I hope they stick the landing.
