I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but this was the first episode we didn't have a flashback of any kind. I definitely miss the flashbacks to start each episode. I hope those aren't done.

Hoping for a flashback next week of the KC QZ, FEDRA overthrow, background of insurrection, etc

My guess: Henry had something to do with Kathleen's brother getting caught/tortured/killed by FEDRA.

No need to guess. She said so specifically.

The doctor denied he'd given info about her brother to FEDRA, and she replied "But Henry did, and you know where he is"

Wondering if the "hole" and the infected below it are Ish's colony? Totally new way of telling that part of the story...

Would have loved to see Ish story be told in a full episode similar to Bill & Frank.

Not sure why people think Kathleen is soft? She's unhinged but she literally walked in and gunned down a doctor in cold blood due to paranoia. It's safe to assume that there are not many if any soft people left in this world.

I thought this was a great episode showing Elle and Joel getting closer. The scenes with both of them were exceptional storytelling. They're doing great in the progression of the relationship and they show how Joel is really starting to think of her as a daughter organically.

The hole in the ground is obviously the bloater.

I think you're referring to my post. I never said Kathleen is soft...I said Melanie Lynskey (the actress) is soft. Key distinction. What you're describing is a character's actions on a screenplay and I agree are anything but soft. I'm specifically talking about the actor's physical presence within the bounds of that character. From her physical makeup to her voice, Melanie is soft. In my personal opinion, I wasn't able to 'buy-in' to the persona she was portraying on screen (as opposed to Anna Torv's portrayal of Tess).

Someone on that same thread made the comparison to Linda Hamilton playing Sarah Connors from the Terminator franchise and I think it's a good example. Meryl Streep might arguably be the greatest actor alive but I don't think she could have believably portrayed Sarah Connors the way Linda Hamilton did. So ya, imo the casting for Kathleen was a bit of a miss. Overall not a big deal because I'm pretty sure she isn't long for this series lol Hope that helped clarify my intentions!

If you view her as soft I'd suggest watching her in yellow jackets. I'm sure that role is the reason she was cast in this one.

Kathleen kept going on about her brother who apparently got whacked by Fedra.

Maybe he was the leader of the Resistance and she's just stepped into his role and they've accepted that, for the time being anyway.

Lots of possibilities for an unlikely character winding up in her position.

This is well said. The actress was giving off major "disappointed kindergarten teacher" vibes and I found it difficult to take her seriously, even if she was acting out horrific actions.

I do think this episode could have used 5 more minutes. I didn't really have trouble tracking but based on some of the more reasonable feedback from the other thread it did make a few leaps for folks Regarding Kathleen and Henry

I'm sure we will get that next episode.

If I had to guess, I'd say they left the group after being put in a compromising position by Kathleen that they weren't comfortable with. Like having to kill a friend or something like that.

Henry and his brother are good people, and too good for that world.

I agree. She's hardcore in that.

Maybe it's because she's kinda… well, soft in other ways that people think she's weak?

Kathleen is Rose from Two and a Half Men. The actress is fine. No backstory on character makes her amiss. Episode was definite improvement to the flow of the story.

More recently she's a badass in the showtime show "Yellowjackets".

I was rewatching the last episode again, and when the bearded dude with the rifle said some thing to The leader lady I thought "I know that voice!"

It sounded like Tommy from the original game.

Sure enough, it's him. The Lt to the leader lady is played by the guy that voiced Tommy in LOU 1.

I thought it was pretty cool.

He does have a great voice.

All the main voice cast from the TLOU game got roles in the HBO series. We have yet to see Troy (Joel) and Ashley (Ellie) yet.

Ms Kathleen sounds like she's trying to get her kindergartners to calm it down….

im thinking you're right and that they are combining these 2 moments in the game:

1. There's already been a cave in at the hotel and after starting the generator a bunch of infected + a bloater come after you in all directions.

2. The Ish storyline that you get from surroundings and notes left around.

This could probably take up two full TV episodes, if not more if they wanted to really mine this storyline. It was so sad, but so well done.

There are some story lines that could be done on spin offs but not sure if HBO does that kind of thing.

I'm thinking similar to Yellowstone and the 1883 and 1923 spin offs.

We could get a full 6-8 episodes of Ish's story...Joel and Tommy's journey from Texas to Boston... the rise of FEDRA...Others?

Looks wise, I think these two are spot on. Not totally sure about acting abilities for the one for Ellie, but the one for Abby seems perfect.

Ellie: Kaitlyn Dever

Abby: Florence Pugh

Somehow I think that crew might have…. Other complaints that they tend to focus on as the show moves in to the second game.

The meltdown about Lev will be spectacular to witness.

which one was Lev? add spoiler tags cause there's a few folks on here that haven't played the 2nd game yet.

and seriously...the meltdown already going on over there is insanely hilarious....it's worse than the comments section of any youtube video out there and that's saying something...

The transgender character. It's gonna end up like Episode 3 but worse because now they will be "invested".

The absolute best character in Part II was Jesse. Everyone else (besides Tommy) was an *******. He was chill, capable, and just wanted his friends to be okay. It's gotta be Simu Liu, right? RIGHT?
