We need an elite 5* Quarterback

Unfortunately Wiggy was ruined by our coaches and I hope will find success elsewhere but one of the missing pieces is a stud 5* QB. Not "serviceable" ones or projects, someone who is a high school high achiever. I don't know if any would like to come to A&M but maybe Elko can swing that?

I think there is blame to go around on CW. He was a bust out as a 5 star and that is not good. Some of it is him; some of it was a pee-poor OL; and yes the transition of coaches AND their ability to coach him up/surround with talent are all factors.

Not good.

Will be used against us as we recruit the next big arm.

Agree with previous poster - there is a massive Venn Diagram of ineptitude that led to his (and other recent QB) failures.

We've had a porous OL (got much better this year) and no WR who are capable of just beating their man. Who was the last A&M WR that the defense had to make sure they identified on every play and doubled much of the time? Kirk? Reynolds was good but really blossomed after college. Mike Evans is the last WR I remember us having where defenses just couldn't stop them.

Hopefully Helaman Casuga sticks with A&M. I think he has a shot of turning into a 5-star QB.

Brady Hart might've turned into a 5-star QB if he stayed in HS for one more season.

If Connor succeeds at his next stop that will be telling.

Josh Reynolds caught 18 TDs in his two years here, he blossomed at A&M.

We need an OC that will call plays utilizing the strengths not the weaknesses of whatever qb we have

This. Amazing how short memories can be in this forum. Haynes King was a total bust until he wasn't. I think CW ends up crushing it

Wouldn't be surprised if he does. Up until this year, he was far more accurate than the other QB's we've had. I still say play design was one of the issues with our receivers not getting open but hey. I'm just some guy on Texags....

Conner was was one of the top QB's in the country last year pre-injury. To say he was a bust talent wise is a moronic statement. NFL scouts were extremely high on him coming into this season. Something happened whether it was the injury causing happy feet or struggling to learn his 3rd offense in 3 years that never really seemed to fit his style of play. It's not a lack of talent. Was either injury or coaching.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't look awesome wherever he lands and ends up as a pretty highly drafted QB in a year or so.

We have no money to offer a five star qb. People don't understand nil. No money equals no talent. Period. tu is killing it in nil. We just can't keep up.

We see this comment a lot and I would like for you, infinity ag, to give a detailed, 3 year history delineating how our coaches ruined WIGGY......as you refer to him.

Coaches fielded a porous offensive line leading to two season ending injuries and shaken confidence. Talent is still in there but now it's inhibited by his confidence issues. To be fair, if my offensive line resembled a colander for two years I'd have confidence issues too

The skinny QB out of FL was a high 4 star before reclassifying to this year; he has arm talent & football IQ, & if he adds 30 lbs of muscle, there's your "5 star." HOWEVER, these recruiting services are a joke; they miss on skill evaluations more than a weatherman on their forecasts. Besides, O'Neil sure played like a 5 star even though he wasn't whereas Weigman looked terrible despite his ranking. Remember Evan Stewart & Cook? Both were 5 star BUSTS. Look, I lived through year after year of Lucci's "diamond in the rough" BS about damn near every 3 star recruit Slocum or Fran ever signed, so I understand the love affair with 5 stars signing here, which only became a new phenomenon lately; however, reliance upon Lucci or some other fat, no-talent BQ's recruit evaluation should be high risk/ low reward at this point, ESPECIALLY if the 5 star recruit is a basket case that gets kicked out of the program before ever contributing (Chris Marshall & Denver Harris come to mind).

3rd offense in 3 years? He had 2 in Jimbo's and 1 in Klein's. Petrino might've called plays last year, but it was still Jimbo's offense.

Yet there has been tons of video of WRs being wide open. None of our QBs have been looking in the right direction to see it.

So it wasn't the coaches' fault that we are the first college football program in history (or at least a very long time) to not win a natty after a #1 class? It's not the coaches' fault that almost them entire class was a bust? That's 100% on the players? Haynes King just decided to play better? His coaching at GT had nothing to do with it?

It's fair to not blame Elko and Kline, but none of us know how ****ty that locker room really got and how bad the coaching really was before they got here.

Stay in your lane bud

When you move the goal posts, that tells me all I need to know.

Several players in that class have been successful. Several have not. As with every team.

As I already pointed out. He played. He was given the starting job twice this past season. Thus, he had his opportunity.

Blaming others will not benefit any player.

Other than Kellen Mond, we don't have the best record with elite 5-star QBs. That's not going to magically fix our problems.

He did have great metrics at the time of his injury.

But it was against two very bad teams and one good team. So small sample size but still looking good. Who knows how the season would have played out if he played all year. It would just be a guess.

He did not play well this season. It's all speculation on the reason why.

No goal posts were moved. You made a blanket statement to not blame coaches. I give multiple examples of players not working out. Is it all of the players' faults or did coaching not play a significant role. We literally have 3 (maaaaybe 5 if you count dewberry and Theo) solid contributors from that class. That's it. So whose fault is that? Or is it only Weigman that personally screwed up and all the other screwups are blameless?

So I'll flip your statement. Quit saying coaches haven't ruined our program and multiple talented players. Blanket blaming of players won't fix the program.

It was absolutely the OL and Klein that are to blame. I would like to see more toughness and a better sideline mentality, but he played the cards he was dealt.

The difference between Marcel and CW is that Marcel can escape the pressure after the WRs aren't open and OL fail their assignments again

So many plays where CW was close to busting it open that it haunts me. LSU right before half he had a wide open seam route for a TD but the OL allowed the ball to get batted down
