How long do you want to ignore this user?
Is this only a first 4 books spoiler thread from here on out?

well i'd prefer if it weren't until i get my copy and blow through it, but i can understand if that's not a popular opinion. i'll probably avoid anything ASOIAF-related on the internet until i finish it actually

I'd much prefer if we label spoilers for ADwD for a while, since we're all starting out on equal footing here and no one wants it spoiled.

After a time (assuming this thread lasts that long), we can deem it worthy of being spoiled without labeling

Meant to post this when I saw it, but completely forgot.

http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/07/19/stannis-melisandre/

Imagined Mellisandre as a bit prettier, but it may just be her makeup in that picture. She does seem like she'd fit the part thought.

Though the gray hair throws me off a bit, I like this pick for Stannis. His face especially captures just what I imagined Stannis's to look like.

i did a google search on both of them to get more pictures

that article probably picked the worst Carice van Houten picture they could as far as her role goes. i found this one

it just screams Mel to me, the full lips, deep, powerful expression, screams seduction but also a scary kind of power. that picture with mel's robes, ruby necklace, and red hair would make for an awesome picture

i could see stephen dillane working well as stannis:

he's that gaunt, tense look of Stannis, that sort of hard expression

idk how much he looks like mark addy and the guy playing renly, but makeup can probably fix that

Like both of the castings!

Will be interesting to see that one actresses' role as Margaery seeing as she's so much older than the girl in the books.

Yeah, but can he sport a close-shaven beard and grind his teeth?

Its like they picked the image of Davos out of my brain, Liam Cunningham is a great choice. He's tall though and I don't think the Onion Knight was.

Here's the Red Priestess decked out in red for a different role, I like the choice.

Like the choice for Davos as well.

They still have quite a few parts to cast, but we should keep seeing news like this pop up. They have to start filming soon, I imagine.

They aged up the actors quite a bit from the books in most cases.

I think the guy they get will be a good stannis.

Stannis is one non-pov character that I think will translate very well to the tv show.

He is a lot like Ned but without any compassion.

that actor looks a little too "noble" to play Davos, at least in that picture...though he is plain enough, so it'll probably work

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I wonder what kind of accent they'll give Davoss

How long do you want to ignore this user?
well if i remember, he grew up in the slums of King Landing, so it probably won't be anything too exotic. we heard one guy yell at Arya in episode 9 before ned's execution, maybe something like that?
OnlyForNow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I pictured both Stannis and Mel to be bigger people.

I know they say that robert got fat while being king but if Stannis and Renly and Robert were all supposed to look similar... then Robert got REALLLY fat while being king.

Is the next season supposed to be only clash of kings? or will it have some SoS in it?
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
well in the book he is described as being a pretty massive dude, really he was always huge even in his prime (though that was muscle instead of fat) while renly was a bit lither and more graceful and stannis was thin to average but hard-muscled
OnlyForNow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree wholelly Uni.

Now... for those that have read all the books atleast up to DWD (I haven't gotten to it yet)
In SoS do y'all think that Prince Dorne was lying when he told Tyrion that Jon is Ned and the Dronish princess's *******?

Now that I think about it... this isn't right... but it's talked about that Ned bedded a high born lady and that's who Jon's mother is. I can't remember if it's Arya when she is with the brotherhood without banners or if it's tyrion.

any help?

I assume you're talking about Oberyn. I don't remember that conversation but there have always been rumors that Ned and Ashara Dayne (a Dornish noblewoman) had a romantic fling before Ned's brother (who was engaged to Cat) was murdered by King Aerys.

Is Jon the offspring of said union? No one in Martin's books (that's trustworthy anyway) has specified as yet but the hardcore nerds have said the timeline would seem to say no.

Edric Dayne (Beric Dondarrion's squire) tells Arya that Jon's mother, supposedly a serving woman named Wylla, was his wet nurse and thus they are milk brothers.

There are ADWD spoilers that shed a bit more light (but no certainty) on Ashara Dayne
OnlyForNow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
jjvix, I think i need to go back and read it.

I don't think they were as you say I think they both used that wet nurse to suckle. I didn't take it as she was jon's mother, but that the the dyane was and she used the wet nurse as well.
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i'm a big R+L=J believer, personally, so i think both Oberyn and Edric Storm were going off misinformation.

however, i DO think it's entirely possible that while Jon might not be Ned's, Ned did still have a romantic fling with Ashara Dayne. i'm not done with ADwD yet and haven't gotten to anything that reveals info about Miss Dayne so this is going off my gut more than anything, but at that point Brandon Stark was still alive and betrothed to Catelyn Tully while Ned wasn't promised to anyone. plus his son Robb made the same exact mistake with Jeyne Westerling (bedding and wedding her while off at war), which is a good indication that Ned probably did the same thing
OnlyForNow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
In the books, isn't Jon and Robb the same age? 14-16? Robb turns 16 while at war and doesn't Jon turn 16 in SoS or right after he comes to the wall?

Is it unrealistic to think that Ned got Jon's mother preggo right before leaving to go home?
If it's Ashya Dayne that would at least make him a ******* of noble birth. I'm not looking forward to him not being in AFFC.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Jon is older than Robb by a year or two, maybe more. Robb was supposed to be 14ish in the first book and Jon more like 17, iirc.
OnlyForNow
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I need to go back and check that out in GoT. If that's the case, it totally makes it believeable that Jon could be Ned and The Dayne's kid... also gives the R + L theory as well though.
Elliot P. Campbell
How long do you want to ignore this user?
jon would still be of noble birth if R+L=J, he'd even be in a position to challenge Dany's right to the throne
jenn96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not as a b*stard. He'd be of noble blood, but would have no claim to the throne, or at least not one that superseded Dany's. Only a king can legitimize a b*stard.

Robb and Jon are within months of each other, no more than a year apart.

Pretty much anyone in Westeros that gossips about it thinks that Ashara is Jon's mother, especially since she killed herself. Ned showed her family tremendous respect after he killed Ser Arthur Dayne and even returned his priceless sword, so that added to the rumors too. Even Cat believes it. Ned will never speak of Ashara to her even when asked.

But, perception isn't reality. After everything I've read, I'm convinced of L+R=J.

i know this is a spoiler thread, so i'm not bothering to read through it. i'm halfway into "storm of swords," after the wedding feast. i needed somewhere to go to express my hatred and loathing for walder frey and roose bolton. i hope they both fall into a man size ant pile and cant get out.

Just finished Feast for Crows and can't wait to get Dance with Dragons.

Admittedly this book started off horrible and very slow paced. But I felt it pick up after about 5 chapters and then it flowed nicely.

I am curious if
1) we will learn what Brienne said before she "died"
2) is Arya will be mentioned ever again
3) if Jamie burned the letter so no one knows about it and will ride off to save her anyways, or if he has chosen to forget his sister/lover
4) if the "Pate" Sam meets is really Pate, before he dies or if it is someone who has taken his place... obiviously the Maesters knew pate before he died so I don't think that he could be anyone else... unless he is a Faceless Man.
5)Interesting to see what will have been happening to Danys, obivously people have been coming and going from Mareen and have seen her dragons.

Now take it to the Dance With Dragons spoilers thread, please. I haven't read it and I'd like to not have spoilers.

After finishing my reread last week, this is my thought on the matter. Remember that in the prologue, Pate asks the man who he is and he replies "No one"

I was reading the chapter summaries from the Wiki before starting ADWD and it pointed out the description of the Alchemist matched that of the appearance that Jaqen H'ghar takes after he leaves Arya.
