Alright so I read the books, but it's been a while. Someone help me with the acronyms.
KotLT = ???
R+L=J = ??? Robert + L = Jon? L=?
TPWWP = ?

quote:
Assuming that Azor Ahai is going to have to make some sort of similar sword tempering ritual as the original its not hard for me to see where Jaime Lannister's story is taking him...

what?

I thought I had a great grasp on the series until I opened this thread.

KotLT = knight of the laughing tree
TPTWP = the prince that was promised (or 'who', or whatever)
R+L=J = Rhaegar+Lyanna=Jon

as far as Azor Ahai, that is the hero that Melisandre (the red priestess) tells Stannis about. he wielded the sword Lightbringer that was powered by the god Rhlor (or however it's spelled), a blade that was always glowing after he 'enchanted' it by killing his wife with it, thereby giving the ultimate sacrifice.

or at least i think that's how the story went. it was something like that.

Raegar + Lyanna = Jon
Theory being that Raegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark are the parents of Jon, therefore gving him some kind of claim.
kotlt = Knight of the Laughing Tree

Thanks guys.

So help me link that with Jamie. Still not following the Jamie reference.

Edit: Also.. PWWP = ??

i think whoever posted that is insinuating that he'll be killing cersei at some point. which isn't a bad assumption, really. not something i've ever considered

PWWP = Prince who was promised I guess. Nevermind.

Thanks again guys.

Part of the "Maggy the Maegi" prophecy is that she will be strangled (I think) by her little brother, which (along with the way it is written) sounds like a Tyrion prophesy, but she is actually minutes older than Jaime as well.

Strangling specifically being mentioned makes that theory tenuous, as there would be no sword tempering sacrifice, plus it makes that particular part seem more like a possibility that it is something more metaphorical than "your little brother will choke you to death".

King's Landing was much more Middle Eastern than I would have thought. I figured it would have been more European, which I always saw Westeros as being. I guess you could call it Mediterranean, but it was definitely not how I imagined it.

i noticed the same thing about King's Landing...imagined it more like a medieval french castle/city than what it was portrayed as

IMO, they needed to contrast with WInterfell. Plus it didnt look that far off from my imagination anyway.

That would be a good guess. Kings Landing was filmed in Malta.

The northern scenes were filmed in Ireland.

Does anybody else not like how they are portraying Cat? Her impulsive decisions are a catalyst for many of the plot lines in ASOIF.

Then again I am biased because she is my least liked character in the series.
PastrySquirrel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Really? Least liked? I understand not being fond of her, but the series has its fair share of outright despicable characters. Or do you mean that you don't think she's as well conceived as the rest?
SteveA

In the book, Kat was the first to say that Ned should go to King's landing. She convinced Ned to go. It was just the opposite in the show. They seem to be diminishing her role, for whatever reason.
bluefire579
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They also made her ugly
rhoswen
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think she's ugly at all. I didn't picture her quite so old, but I think they were trying to illustrate what life in the North can do to a young, beautiful woman.

No, I think she is really well written because if she wasn't I wouldn't hate her nearly as much. She is completely oblivious to the repercussions of her actions. Like I mentioned earlier she is so impulsive and those impulsive decisions tend to lead to disaster. She says she does these things for her family or for honor or whatever but thats crap she does it because she's selfish. At one point you think she might turn over a new leaf when she reflects on forcing ned to go to Kings Landing but instead she thinks she's better served undermining Robb's authority. Who knows maybe UnCat will be righteous but I am doubtful.

The Lannisters are a-holes but they know they are a-holes and they embrace it. That's why I dislike them less then Cat.

Re-reading book 1 right now, I forgot how crazy it gets halfway in. Looking forward to seeing some of that on the screen.

anyone else excited for sam tarly's appearance on screen? i'm curious to see if he is as pathetic as he was in the books
PastrySquirrel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cat made one impulsive decision that set everything into motion... other than that, I don't think she does anything remarkably unwise. She clearly thinks things through and considers consequences, but she is too focused on her family to consider the bigger picture as well as she should. She's not stupid by any means. She's just not as clever as some of her enemies.

The problem with her is that she doesn't accept anyone's authority but her own. She continually undermines Robb and Edmure because she thinks neither of them know better than she does. It's one of the interesting parallels of the books- she and Cersei try to rule through their children and things just keep falling apart for both of them.

For some reason it struck me as really funny in the TV only thread how that one guy got his panties in a bunch about the knife thing. "Who hired the cuthroat and gave him the knife" ends up being inconsequential, and that one guy nopw thinks he's been spoiled because someone told him something and now he thinks the knife is "important"
rhoswen

it is really silly
MaroonStain

Pretty silly for a common assassin to be given a dagger of Valyrian steel.

A regular kitchen knife should have been sufficient to kill a cripple...unless someone wanted Tyrion out of the picture.

My cousin called me the other day upset because he couldn't help spoiling it for himself and finding out Ned died. I look at it as only a small preview to the uproar when it actually happens for all the first-timers in the series.

Am I a bad person for being excited about their inevitable disappointment?

I just don't see how Ned stays a secret. I think that spoiler may go mainstream before it happens, unfortunately.

which should be a clue as to the lack of intelligence or experience of the person who gave it

Its already mainstream all they have to do is look.

I dont think you can claim spoilers on a TV show that is based on a book that was published 15 years ago. The statute of limitations has pretty much run out there.

I am interested in their take on Brans dream. In the book the 3-eyed crow wakes him from his coma. But it seems like the dreams are just starting as of this last episode. Not much was mentioned about it and it's completely overlooked in the non-reader thread. I also wonder how the crow will talk with out it being cheesy.
