I didn't pick up that he was gay (I'm a third of the way into the second book).

But I also didn't pick up that Dumbledore was gay either.

That's because its a load of bullsh#$ that Rowling made up after the fact to score points with all the women and gays watching Oprah and is completely unsupported by anything in the books.

It never occurred to me the rainbow cloaks might indicate someone was gay. It might have if it were set in this country, on this planet. BUt when I see something rainbow colored on this planet, I don't automatically think "gay" either.

i read in an interview with GRRM that the rainbow guard thing was actually not done intentionally. he's a pretty old dude and i don't think he grew up with that association like a lot of us did

also, in contrast to dumbledore, renly being gay is actually fairly important to several aspects of the story: margaery's virginity, stannis' disdain of him (though there are other reasons for this too), and the effect his death has on Loras

maybe dumbledore's sexuality has some effect on the HP story but i don't think it does. plus renly being gay could almost be considered canon, dumbledore not so much

to be fair, I didn't make that connection until the 2nd read through... but you can be sure that a *lot* of people will, because they see things through modern eyes and don't have a historian's (or fantasist's) ability to mentally place themselves in another time or place

I'm kind of disappointed with the whole Eyrie scenes. I wanted to see the trek up the mountain and the two stops.

Khal Drogo, Tyrion, and Arya are exactly how I pictured them.

Next weeks episode is amazing. I was shocked how good it was even knowing how things would turn out.

please do not ruin it for the rest of us?

Tyrion is how I pictured him too, although after re-reading the books he should be a great deal uglier. I'm curious how they'll handle his war wound once they get that far.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Even knowing what comes next and being a bit peeved at a few small things throughout the series, HBO has done an amazing job and each of the past few episodes have just gotten better and better.

Too bad I have to wait another week and a half for the next one, it's going to be great.

i think AFFC gets a bad rap. i like that gives us a ton of new perspectives that the previous three don't. it's not as "action-y" but it's still really interesting IMO

It's not that I felt AFFC was that bad, but I could have done without the Brienne parts. I really found myself struggling to get through those.

Kind of reminds me of books 7-10 of Wheel of Time. It seems to suffer from being in the middle and brings in too many plotlines that just don't seem to be moving the main story forward.

It suffers from the fact that most of what the typical person would consider "the main storylines" (3/4ths of the major characters (Arya but not Jon/Dany/Tyrion plus you dont have Stannis/Davos etc)

I like the book, but I can see where intrigues at KL, Brienne, Jaime, and Dorne are not exactly the meat of the story for a lot of people.

Just watched tonight's episode.

Whoever did the casting is looking better every episode, Littlefinger is just the sneaky, conniving **** I'd gotten the impression from in the books. The rest of the cast also seems to be getting better every episode!

And the good news about Dance of Dragons is literally half the POVs will be Tyrion, Dany, and Jon

Seems like a lot of people feel this way. I never understood it. I liked her story because its the closest these books get to a traditional fantasy storyline. A noble warrior on an adventure with their mysterious and talented young squire. The Brienne chapters are even more interesting after reading the Dunk and Egg short stories.

But good news for you in ADWD it is confirmed she doesn't have a POV whether alive or dead.

I agree AFFC does get a bad rap its not as good as the others but still a great. Cersei's downward spiral is just delicious I can't wait for another taste in ADWD.

Barristan the Bold does get a POV which is pretty damn exciting.

On to the series my girlfriend is hooked after the last episode she exploded with questions. I finally caved on whether Ned leaves Kings Landing. I told her that he does leave but I never mentioned that its just his bones. Boy is she in for a surprise.

Yea it has to end with the birth of dragons. Although I don't know how they could downplay it like they did with the direwolves.

Who does it belong to?

One of the rangers who went out with Benjen but its not important who. Its important that it helps them find the dead bodies of those rangers(minus Benjen).

I thought I heard something about the direwolves getting less airtime because of how hard it is to train the dogs playing them. You won't have that issue with CG dragons.

If I had to guess, I think that next episode will be the Robb heading South with the strength of the North and the negotiation at the twins. Tyrion and Tywin fight Roose Bolton (or whatever random northman they have cast) at the Green Fork. Finding of the bodies at the wall. The Khal raids the sheep people and Dany takes a dislike to rape and slavery.

Nine would then be the Battle of Whispering Wood. Drogo's impending death, and execution of Ned Stark. Wight attack at the wall.

Finale will be the resurrection of Drogo, Drogo's funeral and the birth of Dragons, and the Riverland and Northern bannermen declaring Robb Stark King in the North.

Some point in there maybe we'll see Renly's wedding and declaration as King as well. The next episode would seem to be the one where they will have to fit a crap ton of tstuff in (also that one is written by GRRM himself.

Pretty sure Ned is executed before they come south

In the books Robb and Theon call the Stark banners when Ned is taken prisoner.

The Battle of the Green Fork and the Battle of Whispering Wood both take place while Ned Stark is still alive.

The dragon parts worry me a bit. I hope they aren't really bad CGI which can ruin an otherwise decent flick for me. (I Am Legend, for example)

So far, I believe the only other thing that has been CG was maybe the walker in the first episode.

I too hope the dragons and other "magical" parts of the story aren't cheesy or I beleive it will dis-interest a lot of people.
