Liked it.

Didn't think it was great, but some of the criticisms here are unwarranted.

As Watty said, the fact that the skit was not funny was the point, yet he still criticizes it for not being funny?

As for actors as terrible sports stars:

Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore
Keanu Reeves in Point Break

But the worst is a tie:

Teen Wolf's Basketball skills
Kenny Powers' throwing motion in East Bound and Down

Worst sports performance ever:

Air Bud in Air Bud. That dog was completely not believable. I was underwhelmed.

I liked the finale a lot, and thought this was one of the best seasons yet.

Question: What was the best Office episode ever?

My vote is the Christmas party where Michael goes to the "Asian Hooters" and brings back a couple of waitresses, marking one on the arm so he can tell them apart.

Back up here... What was wrong with Shooter? Maybe I missed something but I recall Shooter's athletic build and golf swing to be fairly normal/believable...

Even in this clip, where he's doing a quick swing because he's scared of the dude with a nail in his head, it's still not that bad of a golf swing.

Like I said, usually the writers have succeeded in making those scenes unfunny in the Dunder Mifflin world but still funny to the outside viewer. That was painfully not the case this time.

Gary Busey was the pitcher in Rookie of the Year, not Nick Nolte.

When are the geniuses in Hollywood going to put those 2 studs in a movie together?

the skit was a hilarious example of the kind of humor that Michael & Holly would find funny. I thought it was great. if you didn't see slumdog, it was probably confusing.

wait, so we aren't allowed to discuss and give our thoughts on a television show we ALL enjoy?!

I love the show. It's my favorite comedy currently on television and one of my top 5 comedies of all time. That being said, the episode sucked. It was just dumb, for all the reasons mentioned on the thread.

Does that mean I'll stop watching? No. Does that mean there will never be a funny episode ever again? Absolutely not. It was just severely lacking, especially for a finale, IMO.

I never understood the forced liking of things like this. we HAVE to like EVERY idea ever thought up by the Office writers, or else we just shouldn't watch TV at all. Laughable!

not at all, that's not what I said at all.

Of course you don't have to like it and still be a fan of the show and have a good debate, but those who thought this was apparently the worst episode ever were acting like if we thought it was funny, we were stupid or had no clue as to what is funny. They didn't just say they hated it, the blasted it and acted incredulous that anyone could find humor.

My point was, if they think the show's getting worse and worse, then why keep watching, not that they couldn't criticize.

I though it was okay and said so. If I hadn't I would've said I didn't like it and why, not that "If you thought this episode was good, you need your head examined. Horrible." etc.

Yes, bring on the opinions, I just meant that if some were almost disgusted by it, it was a bit over the top for a critique of a tv show.

For a season finale, that epsiode was terrible. For a normal episode, it was average at best.

watty I agrew with ya. Usually I'm laughing my head off and it is made more funny by the co-workers not appreciating it. In this case, I got the joke (saw Slumdog), but it wasn't funny imo. In turn making the co-worker's silence not funny either. But just my humble opinion.

The thought that crossed my mind when the started the sketch is dear God I hope they don't go through each round. Thankfully they didn't, but it was already too much for me.

I don't think it was a typo I think he misread his writing.

He said "soup snakes" then he went on trying to explain what that meant, but you could tell he was completely confused. So after he started explaining that they both liked soup he just decided it was too ridiculous then figured out it was "soul mates"

The writers goofed with Pam's volleyball skills. The episode on TBS tonight is the job fair, which was located in Pam's old high school. As they walked into the gym Pam says "I have so many memories of this place, pretending to have PMS so I didn't have to play volleyball" If she was so great at volleyball why would she try to get out of it.

And who cares if she's artsy? I'm more involved in art than Pam is, and I played five different sports in school. It's possible.

It was a weak episode, but I don't think the volleyball stuff is a big deal.

It's surprising in terms of how bad of an athelete she was in previous episodes.

She couldn't hit a ping pong ball across the net, and now she a volleyball stud?

Anyone watching the TBS office re-run right now?? Pam just talked about how she used to fake PMS to get out of PE volleyball games.

But, yeah she's been this super stud volleyball athlete this whole time.. [/sarcasm] The story didn't fit her character (or acting ability).

edit: Strickland beat me to it.

Every episode isn't written by the same person?

They don't rewatch the entire series every time they are about to write an episode?

It's not Lost...is a "continuity Bible" really necessary with this show?

I'm an idiot, but I if was writing for a show like that, I'd pay more attention to details.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
That episode was written by two writers who have written a combined 18 out of the series 91 episodes.
(http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0148180/ and http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0509425/)

Are they really expected to remember every throwaway line from every episode- particularly one that neither of them even wrote and Paul Lieberstein didn't even appear in? It's not like anybody else remembered it until the rerun was shown...

She could have tried to get out of volleyball because:

1. She played so much she was burnt out
2. As a star, she was tired of the expectations

Happens all the time to athletes in the real world, as well as in other shows / movies.

See e.g. Emilio Estevez' character in The Breakfast Club; the QB in Dazed and Confused; the QB in The Program...

Why can't y'all just admit that the writers screwed that storyline up? It was a bad idea, poorly executed, that didn't fit with the character. It's ok to admit that. It doesn't mean you hate the show.

+1. My seven year old niece could have written a funnier finale. It's still my fav show on TV

I'm not a crazy continuity Nazi, but lazy plot/timeline screwups aggravate me. This is probably on the lower end of that spectrum, though, as I had forgotten all about her volleyball comments in the earlier episode.

I never thought I'd say this, but I think The Office has been surpassed on my tv hilarity scale. It's not really anything that the show did or didn't do, it's just that Big Bang Theory is so freaking funny. IMO, it has become the funniest show on television.
