what can be so secretive about the gernade story? did somebody die?

Actually this thread has been around so long that Cobrakajagoogoo does not even work here anymore I don't think. And if Outlawag's boss cared enough about it, he would have already canned him. But from what I understand his boss is not exactly the "bought in" type.

So anyway, Cobracolonic, tell Outlawag's boss about his job search and then we can hear this week about what it was like when he WAS at UCS.

In the meantime, Outlawag, stay away from that UCS dining room.

Later, I have to get back to stealing RAM sticks from inventory for my ebay venture. I bet UCS will fire me over that too.

My guess would be that you were a loser who worked on the bench. And no, I do not work there anymore. If you saw what OutlawAg01 did at work everyday, you would know that he has absolutely nothing to complain about. That's my point. I'm not defending the place for its labor practices or anything like that.

I never worked at UCS...I just had to endure two years of *****ing from my roommates about it.

As for the grenade story, it isn't all that neat. In fact, if the previously posted version is correct it basically is a *****'s way of trying intimidation tactics and failing miserably. I would have thrown the damn thing at him.

And you know what? Even if my boss was monitoring me right now, do you really think he would have the right to be pissed off at me? I can't get onto a random message board and gripe about my job? Griping about your job is a SPORT at UCS! And I'm still a rookie in this game, got a lot to learn from the vets

And what if I'm lying? What if I love my job, but was just trying to "fit in" here at TexAgs? It's an anonymous message board, you have no clue who I am or what I'm thinking...

And note: I NEVER said that my job was stressful. In fact, the reason that I am leaving is because of the lack of work and pay. UCS is a decent company for some, but the extremely high turn-over rate, less than industry standard wages, and "big brother" practices are completely ridiculous. I expect to work hard and be paid well. I get neither of those here.

Lastly, if I got fired for something that I posted on TexAgs, it would only prove how jacked up this place is.

I received the "grenade" when I worked at UCS. Actually they apparently no longer give out live grenades, because someone with a brain decided that may actually endanger people. Anyways, I received a bullet instead and was told to place it on my computer to remind me that I was working with live data. The reason I got it is because I made a mistake with a data base. It is a long story and the details aren't important, but I am absolutely disgusted that they continue to hand this thing out. It was given to me in a private meeting w/ my manager, but it was still humiliating. This company was spawned from hell.

At last, the rest of the story. I would speculate that they stopped handing out live grenades to reduce the chances of a "fragging".

I worked there once, it sucked, I quit.

I work there now and I do nothing. I sit there and work on the Battalion crossword puzzles for my entire 3 hour shift. 3 hours may sound short but there it is an eternity. However I have become quite good at useless knowledge.

If I still lived in CS, I think I might actually try to get a job there. It sounds fun. I bet you could really piss some people off...

They once told one of the guys I worked with to quit taking 30 minute crap sessions on his 4 hour work shift.

Why is it that the 20 ounce drinks in the vending machines are $.75 and the one's they sell in the cafeteria are $1.00?

I used to get a milk for breakfast every morning at work until one day when I stopped at a convenience store on the way and saw they had the same milk for $.50 cheaper.

That's why they get pissed when you eat outside. Bob's making a profit off of his workers.

Since when does a hamburger cost almost $4.00? Since 1997 when I started working there, that's when.

I can't believe this thread is so long! I got in trouble for using the bathroom way too much (It was a freakin boring job). Terrible company whose employees have a worse attitude. How are they still around?

I worked for SourceNet Solutions that was in the same building as UCS for about a year. It was not a fun year...

I'm glad I found this thread. I had repressed all my UCS memories but now they are coming back!!

I hated that job. I worked there for the 6 months before I graduated. I had been accepted into law school so my motivation was already low. I worked the bench. Damn, it sucked. I had friends all over the place there so I would usually visit with them in 30 minute intervals.

I tried to transfer over to Rentsys where some friends were working, but the guy in charge of my department was a dick and wouldn't let me go.

I finally decided to quit when they wouldn't give me any time off for Spring Break. I put in my two week notice and didn't show up until the last day. Needless to say, they were pissed.

The kicker is that I got a call 2 weeks later from a manager at UCS offering me a permanent position. I tried not to laugh when I told him I had recently quit.

Oh how I loathed that place!!!!

Industrial Engineering. I'm in that and quality engineering. Could do manufacturing engr also as part of a team, especially if it had a six sigma focus.

I worked in the KeyTrak area for a total of 6hrs 23 minutes. Would have been 6hrs but I couldn't find the way out of the building with those damn codes. I got a call 2 days later asking if I was coming back. I could see where that job was heading riviting boards and soldering all day everyday. Oh what fun.
