Jamie,

hope you and your wife are doing well out in east tx. Unfortunately, i still work at UCS but right now i have no other choice. been there since '97. i know tigol97, haven't figured out Mookie though. My mom works for the government, payroll related. says that the overtime they pay _is_ illegal. when i leave, i might track down everyone (hint: keep your paystubs).

Enviro,

I worked in Equipment Control for three years and used to process client orders, and then bring them to your department. Usually your boss was okay, but there were a lot of times he was a punk. Also, whenever we'd have a going away party for someone in our department, he always managed to show up and look stupid. He's probably a decent guy, but I tended to see him at his worse.

I don't work at UCS anymore, but my roommate has worked there for a while now. He didn't want to use his real Texags username so here is what he has to say:

aggie-master's roommate "Enviro and Jock I know exactly the s/r supervisor of whom y'all are railing on.
My story is a little different. My job is so easy and nobody rides me, but I do get the sense that everyone else is miserable. I don't know anyone upstairs who doesn't hate their supervisor. Once a group of ladies bought a cake and threw a party on a Friday the guy went out of town. Chances are if your supervisors name is Cooper or Gabriel you hate your job. I've never worked for them but I don't know anyone who called working for them an enjoyable experience."

Enviro, I AGREE! She's definitely one of the coolest girls I've ever known.

Master, Gabriel used to scare the hell out of me, but once you get to know him he's a good guy. He's actually one of my references.

Frankie,
Long ago, I think Rob was a good guy. Egons before the evil empire (UCS) he and my dad were Corps buds at A&M. Outside of UCS, he seems like a decent fellow. Although, being a lowly tile worker I never had to deal with executives!

UCS gave me a chance when no one would.

In 6 1/2 years, I have more than doubled my starting salary, allowing me to live comfortably in College Station with three kids and a wife who can stay at home. I have always been rewarded for working hard, which in my book is about all I can ask from an employer.

I think the major shortcoming of UCS in College Station is that the "big picture" is not communicated effectively to many employees. They see the policies and procedures, but are not exposed to the reasoning and positive consequences. There is good reason UCS has been profitable for 33 years. Bob knows what he is doing.

Some advice: bad supervisors exist EVERYWHERE. Hell, I've been one of them on many occasions. If you are miserable in your job, communicate to your supervisor, manager, and VP. If the problems are not resolved, pack up and leave. Seriously. And do so with good conscience knowing that every experience is positive if you learned something. Use your training and experience somewhere else, just like several others earlier in this thread have done.

This thread is for sharing UCS experiences. This is mine.

I worked in Assembly (I guess thats what we called it). The dept was way in the back by s/r, we got very little work done, esp past 5pm when all of the bosses left. I had a pretty good time there, we had fun at the monthly kegger, and then would go back to work (very productive time!).

I haven't had a chance to read all of the responses. If you worked there the summer of 1999, and you were in assembly I was there. My roommate and I had all of the parties on the front porch of Briarwood apts.

I worked in Keytrak for about 3 weeks in September, man did it suck.

Frankie, you were my supervisor, you were one of the few people that did not cause me to leave.

They totally lied to me about what I would do, how much I could make, the dress code, hours I would work... and well, pretty much everything. The stupid manager lady (forgot her name) even kept lying when I quiet.

For those of you who work there, whenever someone is "sick" they are at an interview or drug test for another company. Very glad I found another job here in CS.

We should let this topic die.

While there were many bad things about working for UCS, I didn't mind starting out at $7 per hour working part-time. I didn't mind that my supervisor would let me work as many extra hours as I wanted to when I needed more money. I didn't mind eating taquito's in the morning while still on the clock.

I would never go back to work there, but I have reccommended it to other Aggies looking for a part-time job.

I can think of atleast three jobs that I've had that were much worse than working part-time at UCS.

Part time would have been OK. But it sucked a$$ full-time. I would not reccomend that to anyone.

The thing is is that nobody who worked there wants to see this thread die and the people who didn't find this company so amusing that the thread stays on the first or second page at all times.

I don't want this to die because I would hate for someone else to have to go through the hell I did without knowing.

I used to work at UCS and so did my ex. I was there for a year when they were still in that rental space by Golden Corral. I knew Chris Cooper very well and he didn't do anything - that is true. I worked for a guy named Barry Roberts and Ruben Arriaga in Field Service Support. Barry was awesome - Ruben was insane. My ex worked there a little longer than me (I was there 1 full year) and I don't have the SLIGHTEST clue how he did. I also had a good friend that worked in that phone monitoring dept. That place is ridiculous. Yeah, they start EVERYone at like $6 no matter what - degree or otherwise yet expect you to wear suits and crap. UNbelieveable. Maybe we should ban together and sue them for bad practices. I know they were sued in California b/c they used to refuse to pay overtime, but made you work anyway.

I started working there about 3 weeks ago, and to be honest it's not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I think a lot of that has to do with the department you're in. Where I work, everything seems pretty laid back and as long as the work gets done, everyone has a good time. I've never gotten to my car at the end of the day and thought to myself, "Self, that was a horrible day at work." Then again, I've only been there 3 weeks...

Also, my arrival coincided with the departure of the slick haired tool in S/R. I don't know if I would be saying these things if I were working under him from what I have been hearing about him.

Let's get this thread rocking again.

I worked on the printer bench team for a total of a week. As soon as I found out how strange they were over there, I told them they can take that job and shove it. I really don't know what the deal was with that company.

I also worked in S/R last spring before I moved to houston. We had some fun but it also sucked at times. Making FedEx boxes explode with packing foam was always fun.

Enviroag02, I think I know you, if I do our hometowns are close to each other. I've tried to call you but your number was unlisted. We need to go play some disc golf.

Just to see if there are any new stories from UCS...

I have a friend there in Keytrak and she tells some of the wierdest stories.
