The material transition on the garage is lovely. You are quite the visionary to tackle all this.

I'm not going at it completely alone. Seeing this place in Atomic Ranch two years ago really proved that our crazy long term vision for the place is feasible. Their house also has a strong contrast of the new and old space between the original footprint and addition.

Their roofline is flat - it's a picture of a magazine I have.

The toe kick lighting is finished. The dim area on the left is the dishwasher. It may be impossible to put lighting in there due to the way the door opens and closes. When the door is fully open there is no space at all for a LED strip.


I've also been experimenting with pantry lighting. I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to do or not, but I'm going to go ahead with it. Yesterday I ordered the rest of the materials, but in a less warm (2,700 vs. 2,400K) color. I'll use the very warm light strips on other projects.


The pantry doors also arrived yesterday. They were easy enough to install, but I have a little drywall work to do and I need to caulk around the seams. The color of the glass when the pantry lights are off matches the backsplash. I forgot to test it out at night to see how much the doors glow.




I decided to go ahead and trim out the front door for the sidelight that I currently have in there, and just deal with changing the size later. That will enable me to put in the reducer between the entry hall and adjacent areas since I will know how wide to cut it. This week I'm also ordering the stainless for the toe kick and the veneer for the beams. Once that's in the project will be complete and I can move on to something else.

Things are still moving along slowly. Yesterday I placed the last material order for the entire project. The stainless for the toe kick should be here in 3-5 business days. In the mean time I cut the last of the baseboards and casing and primed it. Hopefully I can paint and install it after work. The LEDs came in so I should probably finish that up today too. I need to start thinking about prep work for the veneer on that LVL too, but we're still on track to finish up early next week when the stainless arrives.

The DVDs and games are going to move into the server closet - they belonged to my brother and there is nowhere else to put them for now. I want to make something like this. It will probably take at least a couple because there are so many of them.

Rip them to a server and sell the hard media. Get with the times, Fife!

The wife works in IT with a local university and she's dealt with a number of cryptowall infections recently. It's been about enough to get us to go back to the old way of doing backups with a spare hard drive and leaving it disconnected from the computer since the amount of cloud storage we'd need would be a bit much. The media center computer has over 1TB of pictures, music, Tivo'd stuff and whatever else on it already.

1 GB? What is this, 1998?

Check out CrashPlan. They have a free option to backup to hard drive or other PC and a pay option with unlimited cloud storage. I've been using it for a while and highly recommend it.

I'll have to look into it. The majority of what's in there are games though, and since they belonged to my brother they aren't going anywhere.

The pantry lighting is complete now. Next up, trimming out the area around the front door and then the toe kick.

The kitchen is now complete. All that's left to do is clean and take pictures.

This evening I'm putting the veneer up on the reverse side of the beam. The first piece is done and I already like the results.

Work is now complete. I'll work on getting some before/after pictures posted, probably in its own thread.
